Foundation of Cingular Wireless LLC, known now as AT&T Mobility LLC. 2002 The AT&T Mobility wireless data network began as a Cingular initiative called "PROJECT GENESIS." 2004 The merging of AT&T Wireless Services and Cingular was com- pleted, paving the way for AT&T Wireless to be legally renamed New Cingular Wireless Services, Inc. 2005 AT&T Mobility launched a broadband network known as "BroadbandConnect." It was based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) to counter Verizon Wireless and Sprint's EV-DO networks. AT&T announced its 2nd Android handset, the Dell Aer (a revised ver- sion of the Dell Mini 3). AT&T introduced its HTC Aria. AT&T released the Samsung Captivate.
