Design Philosophy
Design should complement the fluidity of our daily lives. We need spaces to stimulate well-being, provoke liveliness and provide comfort for varying lifestyles. As designers, we can accomplish these goals by understanding client needs and striving to deliver above and beyond their expectations.

Healthcare Design Atria Encinitas Encinitas, California CCRC Retirement Community

Objective

This project focused on three-dimensional spatial development. We focused on a large scale, multi-unit institutional project. This was a four person team effort working towards a completion of a CCRC community using universal design, ADA codes, and incorporating the future needs of the baby boomer population.
sample tenant room| skilled nursing
The client, Atria Encinitas, is located near the San Diego, Califor-nia area. Their site includes a north and south facility. The north building is comprised of three floors and the south building is two stories high. Each building will require its own dining area, activity support areas, and living accomodations. site aerial view
In Atria , the floor plan offers mul-tiple living options. In each room the team incorporated space for a queen sized bed, a small kitchen-ette with storage, ADA compliant bathrooms, and living quarters large enough to accommodate most tenants’ furniture.
In the skilled nursing building, the rooms do not include the kitchen-ettes and tend to be a little smaller in order for tenants to get around easier.

The future baby boomer clients expect fitness facilities in addition to other technology support areas. These two areas will be trending in retirement facilities in the near future.
We created specific areas, other than dining and large community rooms, that will provoke interaction and give the tenants a small community feel while catering to different niche hobby groups.

The concept of this project was Nature’s Luxury. We included a vast variety of color schemes ranging from warm sunsets to fields of wildflowers.

This dining space focuses on natural lighting and plays with contrasting colors to make the space more visually appealing which is important for an aging eye.
The color palette for the dining area uses red as an appetite stimulator. We also designed a high contrast setting to help differentiate surfaces to ensure safety and independence.
