James J Reidy discovered the concept behind the technology 20 years ago.

In 1998 research and development began and in 2002 Air to Water Technology was integrated.

Atmospheric water generator (AWG) is a electricity-powered device that uses the dehumidification principle to make pure drinking water out of the moisture present in the air.

From centuries, many people worldwide devised different methods to produce drinking water.

Many forget the fact that sufficient water is readily available in the air due to atmospheric water cycle that can be tapped easily.

As the working principle of AWG is based on the Dehumidifier to extract water from moist air.

A dehumidifier sucks in air from one end, takes the moisture out of it, and then blows it back out again. The moisture drips through into a collection tank.

Similarly, water vapor in the air is condensed by cooling the air below its dew point, exposing the air to desiccants, or pressurizing the air in AWG.

In this type, a compressor circulates refrigerant through a condenser and then surrounding air is cooled by an evaporator coil.

A controlled-speed fan pushes filtered air over the coil.

This lowers the air temperature to its dew point, causing water to condense.

The resulting water is then passed into a holding tank with purification and filtration system to keep the water pure.

It reduces the risk posed by viruses and bacteria which may be collected from the ambient air on the evaporator coil by the condensing water.

This method uses a solution of chemical salts to pull water out of the air. Salt is a natural desiccant, which means that it draws and holds moisture.

The technology may use liquid or solid desiccants to pull water from the air (like Lithium bromide, Silica gel).

In desiccant based water generators, humid air passes over a salt mixture. The wet salt is then heated to the boiling point. The steam is condensed and routed to filters for processing.

The resulting water is clean and free of chemicals. This is mostly applied in large-scale levels like the military or industrial units.

Clean and pure can be obtained due to processes of multi filtration.

Eliminates hazards caused by viruses, bacteria, pesticides and heavy metal contaminants.

Rich oxygen contained in the water improves metabolism of your body.

Tastes sweeter and better.

Once connected to the power supply, it can supply hot & cold

Advantages of AWG

The product price of an AWG is higher compared to municipal.

AWGs face a challenge with sandy areas such as deserts

Climate is an important factor for AWG machines to run efficiently.

Future Scope

Page 19: atmospheric water generator by Priya gavshinde

Despite widespread water pollution and shortages of drinking water, there is an abundance of water around us – from the air that we breathe it doesn’t matter where you are – even in the desert.

Several water treatment methods exist to tap these sources, from traditional methods to modern techniques .

Water harvesting and treatment technologies that are solar or wind powered is the most environmentally friendly way to extract pure quality water from the air or sea at a low cost.

The excellent information is that these technologies are now commercially available.
