SOCIAL SCIENCES

UNIT - 5

It’s important to all living organisms because:

1. It contains the gases we need to survive

2. It protects us from the harmful rays of the Sun

3. It helps maintain the temperature of the Earth by

stopping the Earth from heating up or cooling down

too quickly.

4. It transports water around the planet in the form of

clouds

Pollution changes the atmosphere and makes it dirty.

Pollution destroys the environment.

Dust and smoke from cars, and industry pollute the planet.

WE MUST PROTECT THE ATMOSPHERE AND KEEP IT CLEAN !!

The weather is all the natural changes and events

that happen constantly in the atmosphere

WIND: The movement of the air; breeze / gale

CLOUDS: a collection of tiny droplets of water.

PRECIPITATION: in the form of snow, rain or hail.

OTHER PHENOMENA: lightning, rainbows, heat waves, cold

fronts, hurricanes ...

1. We can choose suitable clothing

2. We can protect people, crops and animals from bad

weather

3. We can avoid risks in transport

4. We can evacuate people to avoid catastrophes

caused by hurricanes and floods.

Weather forecasters make predictions about the

weather.

The Hydrosphere is all the water on Earth.

LIQUID WATER: Can be Fresh Water or Salt Water.

ICE: When liquid water freezes and becomes solid.

WATER VAPOUR: When water is heated and evaporates.

TYPES OF WATER IN THE

HYDROSPHERE:

1. SURFACE WATER: found on the

surface of the geosphere: oceans,

seas, rivers, streams, lakes and

ponds.

2. GROUNDWATER: formed when

surface water filters inside the

geosphere.

1. It helps maintain the Earth’s temperature

2. It provides the habitat to aquatic organisms

3. Plants need it to make food during photosynthesis

4. Animals need it to survive

5. Human beings use it for Industry, hygiene and recreation.

POLLUTION can also damage the hydrosphere and harm the living organisms that live in it.

There is always the same amount of water on Earth, it’s moving around in

the form of ...

RIVERS: Circulate over the surface of the Earth until they flow into the

sea.

CLOUDS: move around the atmosphere, produce precipitation and

disappear.

SNOW - ICE: formed during the winter, and melt in summer.

RAINWATER: filters underground and appears again in natural springs.
