Introduction
1 IntroductionThis document provides lists of the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) links and LAN
connections in the RNC450. Lists of ATM links include Switching Fabric Unit (SFU) ATM
link lists and Multiplexer Units (MXU) ATM links lists in RNC450.
For more information on the configurations and equipment of the RNC450, see Equip-
ment Lists for RNC450, Cable Lists for RNC450 , andWCDMA IPA-RNC Engineering
Description.
1.1 Introduction to ATM links
SFU ATM links
The ATM SFU provides the ATM cell switching functionality. It provides 2N redundancy.
And it is non-blocking at ATM connection level, which means if input and output channel
are available the connection can be established. The ATM SFU supports point-to-pointand point-to-multipoint connection topologies, as well as differentiated handling of
various ATM service categories. High capacity network interface units and ATM Multi-
plexer units are connected to the redundant SFU.
In RNC450, SFU is implemented in plug-in unit SF10 and SF10E. SF10 provides 16
duplicated (622 Mbit/s) ATM ports. And SF10E provides 16 duplicated (622 Mbit/s) ATM
ports and 8 high speed (2.5 Gbit/s) ATM ports.
MXU ATM links
The ATM MXU multiplexes traffic from tributary units to the SFU. This enables the effi-
cient usage of switching resources for low bit rate network interface units and computer
units with small to moderate bandwidth requirements. The ATM MXU also has ATMlayer processing functionality, such as policing, statistics, OAM, buffer management and
scheduling. Control computers, signal processing units and low bit rate network inter-
face units are connected to the ATM SFU via MXU.
In RNC450, MXU is implemented in plug-in unit MX622-D. MX622-D provides 19(0-155
Mbit/s) ATM ports.
1.2 Notations used in the lists of SFU ATM links
The table of SFU ATM links has two main columns: SFU and FU using the port . SFU is
2N redundancy unit. FU can connect to SFU via either variant. The Note column applies
to both SFUs.

• No. : It indicates the index number of SFU (SFU 0 or SFU 1).
• Slot : It indicates the SFU's equipping place, subrack, and slot.
• Cabling position: It indicates the cabling positions in two ways:
•SW: cable connection coordinate used in hardware configuration management
• HW: physical cabling equipping position
The four sub-columns for FU using the port :
• FU : It indicates the Functional unit (FU) name with index number, for example,
NPS1 0.
• Plug-in unit : It indicates the name of the plug-in unit which can be used.
• Slot : It indicates the equipping place number of the plug-in unit.
• Cabling position: It indicates the cabling positions in two ways:
• SW: cable connection coordinate used in hardware configuration management
• HW: physical cabling equipping position
1.3 Notations used in the lists of MXU ATM links
The table below has two main columns: MXU and FU using the port . MXU is 2N redun-
dancy unit. FU can connect via either MXU.
The four sub-columns for MXU :
• Port no: It indicates the index number of the port (0-18).
• No. It indicates the index number of MXU (0–15).
• Slot : It indicates the MXU's equipping place, subrack, and slot.
• Cabling position: It indicates the cabling positions in two ways:
• SW: cable connection coordinate used in hardware configuration management

Introduction
1.4 Notations used in the lists of LAN connections
The LAN connections are shown in the form of a table. There are two main columns:
ESA40-A 0, ESA40-A 1 / ESA24 0, ESA24 1 and FU using the LAN port. The table below
covers ESA40-A and ESA24. FU can connect via either variant.
The four sub-columns for ESA40-A 0(ESA40-A 1) / ESA24 0(ESA24 1):
• Port no.: It indicates the software port index number, 1/1/1 - 1/1/24.
• No.: It indicates the index number of ESA40-A/ESA24.
• Slot : It indicates the ESA's equipping place, subrack, and slot.
• Cabling position : It indicates the cabling positions in two ways:
• SW: cable connection coordinate used in hardware configuration management
• HW: physical cabling equipping position
The four sub-columns for FU using the LAN port :
• FU : It indicates the FU name including index number, for example, OMU 0.
• Plug-in unit : It indicates the name of the plug-in unit, for example, CCP1D-A.

Values indicated in the table in brackets correspond to the ESA40-A/ESA24 in brackets, in other words, to
ESA40-A 1/ESA24 1. For instance, the HW cabling position 00 corresponds to ESA40-A 0, whereas 02 in
brackets corresponds to ESA40-A 1. The unit using the port, however, can connect via either ESA40-
A/ESA24.
1) Cabling out of the network element.
2) Cabinet address setting module
3) Subrack address setting module
4) Redundancy cable is not attached at the factory
5) LAN for RRMU was moved to RSMU.
6) Port 39 and 40 is used for ESA40-A only.
