The ATAL ATM-monitoring systems are stand-alone modu-lar 1- to 16-channel data recorders that can be configured entirely to meet your monitoring needs. The ATM-05D has 16 free input slots and can be extended via input modules. There is a choice from 34 different input modules, optical or non-optical isolated. The ATM-06D offers 16 universal input channels which can be defined through the ATM-software. The systems have been developed for stand-

alone recording of such parameters as temperature (via Pt100, Pt1000, Ni1000 sensors and thermocouples), DC process signals (mA, Volt) and pulses (status or counting). The simple installation and the exceptionally user-friendly software are distinguishing features of the ATM-systems, which have a number of standard and unique characte-ristics that will provide you with maximum ease of use. Automatic data transferral, network possibilities, trigger possibilities, GSM or other modem communication, real time graphics display and exchangeable input modules are standard provisions!

Data storageThe monitoring systems have a large memory capable for storage of 480,000 readings and can function inde-pendently without a PC. The sample interval for taking readings data can be set for each channel independently, varying from 1x per second to 1x per 24 hours. It is also possible to save data on the hard disk of a PC or laptop while monitoring. The ATM-must be coupled to a PC via the RS232 port, the RS485 port, the USB port, an Ethernet connection or a modem in order to do this. All recorded data can be analysed easily and if required made ready for use in reports by means of the Windows® analysis software supplied with the system.

Recording

Trigger input for external starting and stopping For certain applications it is useful to start and stop the recording by means of an external contact, in order that the memory of the ATM-unit is used as efficiently as possible. A digital input can be linked to any of the ATM-inputs to func-tion as a “start/stop” input. As soon as contact is made in the digital input, the recording can be started or stopped.

It is also possible to activate a different sample interval if a digital input changes status (for example, in the event of a failure, it may be desirable to collect more readings).

Information on the LCD displayThe ATM-05D and ATM-06D unit has an LCD screen on which the actual readings of the various inputs are displayed. Func-tion keys can be used to display all values one by one. There are also four LEDs to show the status of the mains voltage and the memory. An acoustic signal is also given when these status indicators are activated.

Recording with confidenceIf there is a power failure the recorder will stop collecting data. Up till the moment of the power failure the date and time of the failure as well as the readings taken will be stored in a back-up battery. After the power has been restored the ATM units will automatically resume recording.

Every channel its own label16 process labels or names can be created per system that can be linked to a specific channel during the course of the process. An operator can select the desired label using the ATM-function keys. The label selected is recorded as well as the actual reading.

Wireless sensorsYou can make significant savings on your installation costs by using wireless sensors! No more cables, no more need to pen-etrate walls or insulation materials. The ATM-monitoring unit can be supplied with an external receiver suitable for receiving the radio signal from 1 to 16 wire-less sensors. The sensors work on the 868 MHz frequency band and have a maximum range of 400m in the field. Wireless sensors are available for monitoring temperature, relative hu-midity, carbon dioxide, current, Volt-age and energy consumption. More information about these sensors can be found on page 17 or in the ATAL Sensor Catalogue.

Alarms & Communication

Multiple ATM-systems linked via RS485 or Ethernet connectionIf 16 channels of one ATM-system are not sufficient for a particular monitoring project, a RS485 or Ethernet network can be used to link multiple ATM-systems together. Each ATM-unit is then allocated an unique RS485 or IP address. In the case of a RS485 network an RS232/485 converter must be installed on the main PC. The maximum distance accessible using RS485 is 1 km.

Alarm functions The ATM-units have extensive facilities for reporting alarms. Four limiting conditions can be set independently in each channel, including the hysteresis and rise and fall delay if required. An alarm is given both acoustically (buzzer) and visually (LED 1 to 32). The ATM-units have relay contacts for sending the alarm through to a central alarm system or for operating a telephone dialer. The four alarm conditions per channel are particularly flexible in combination with the optional external relay module (item ATM-AC01). For example, two conditions can be used to operate the relay outputs and two for reporting the alarm status by SMS.

Communication via analogue or GSM modem Both an analogue and a GSM modem can be used for remote communication with an ATM-unit. All functions, such as setting, reading and even displaying readings in real time can be made with the help of modem communication. The GSM modem has the advantage that there is no need for a permanent telephone line. The analogue modem has as advantage that the communi-cation is faster (56k6). The modems supplied by ATAL have been exten-sively tested in practice so that you are guaranteed maximum certainty of operation.

Alarms by means of:

GSM modem E-mail notification SMS message Automatic telephone dialer Buzzer (local)

Alarms via SMS messageAll ATM-systems can be provided with an RS232 “SMS port” to which an ATAL ap-proved GSM modem can be connected for reporting alarms via SMS messages. The ATM-unit can report to any 4 cell phone numbers that have been entered in the system. A PC that can be used independently for the “SMS port” can be linked to the RS232, RS485, USB or Ether-net port of the ATM-system.It is also possible to make remote contact with the ATM-unit in order to change settings, to view realtime readings in real time and to retrieve data that has been stored.

GSM & SMS communication

Access actual readings via SMS messagesThe system operator can send a SMS mes-sage “INFO” to a remote ATM-system and then receive an SMS message back with all the actual measurement data with the alarm and system status. In order to do this, the ATM-system must be connected to an ATAL approved GSM modem that supports SMS messages.

The basic ATM-055D system is manufactured standard with 16 free input slots for connecting any type of input module. The modular system configuration gives you the flexibility to start with just a few input modules and to extend and/or to change the system later up to a maximum of 16 input modules per ATM-055D system. If desired ATAL can carry out this reconfiguration for you.

The modules A1 / B0 / B1 / B2 / D0 / D1 / D2 / D4 / D5 / F / J / K / K1 / N / T / O / P / Q and S are not optical isolated. As an option these modules can be supplied as optical isolated input modules. The letter “G” must then be included after the article code when ordering the particular module (e.g. the optical isolated input module for 0-10VDC signals has article code ATM-D2G). Due to the special construction of the thermocouple channels it is not possible to add a thermocouple module at a later time.

ATMATM-Analysis software

Automatic transfer of data per project or for several projectsIf the ATM-system is linked via a serial (RS232 or RS485), USB, Ethernet or GSM modem connection, the ATM-software is

capable of storing the measurement data auto-matically according to a preset time schedule entered by the user (e.g. daily or weekly). This function is also available if more than one ATM-

system is linked via a RS485 connection.

Real time 16 channel paperless recorderThe ATM-software has standard functions to monitor proc-esses both graphically and numerically in real time. The nu-merical values and the alarm status are displayed on the left, whilst on the right the graphic progression of the activated input channels is presented. This “paperless recorder” func-tion is exceptionally practical for monitoring brief processes such as tests and tuning. This function can also be used if the ATM-system is linked via a modem.

Real time display of HTML pageThe actual measurement data from the ATM-systems are now also available via HTML pages by using the web browser. Several user groups, for example the technical service depart-ment, the person responsibly for quality assurance or the management, can use this function to follow critical proc-esses simultaneously. The actual readings can be displayed via the web interface both in numerical and graphical form. Condition here is that the PC to which the ATM-system is linked forms part of the company network, since this PC func-tions as web server.

ATAL Database software

Simple management of data files by using the ATAL Database software

These database software ver-sions replace your present soft-ware and have the additional possibility of saving your data centrally in an SQL database. An integrated Viewer applica-tion for analysing the data is supplied with these database software versions. This Viewer application can also be ordered separately for use by other users on the network who also wish to analyse the data. Some experience with installing PC networks is desirable when in-stalling this particular database software.

There are a number of new software solutions available for users of ATX and ATV data loggers, ATM multiple channel monitoring systems and (Ethernet-based) sensors that make it possible to store the data centrally in a MySQL or MS-SQL

Possible connections

The ATM-System is a versatile system with many communi-cation possibilities, such as via RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet and GSM/analogue modem. This allows the system to be configured entirely according to the wishes of the user by using a selection of input modules, so that virtually every de-

sired monitoring application can be accommodated. Sensors can be wired both in star and network form. For those ap-plications where it is complicated to apply wired sensors, our wireless sensors provide a solution. The diagram below gives an impression of the various communication possibilities.
