NEW RESIN SYSTEMS FOR RELINING:

EXTRA FRIENDLY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT …

Page 2: Atlac Premium Relining

ensuring the optimum performance of sewer and waste water systems is essential for local and regional governments as well as industrial

organizations to avoid unnecessary disruption. in order to keep these systems working, repairs may be required that can restore functionality with

the lowest possible impact to those in the surrounding area.

dsm has a track record of many successful installations and a proven performance in relining solutions. its atlac™ premium resins can give you

peace-of-mind, offering the best options for consistent sewer functionality while allowing you to make a positive impact on the environment.

Responsible Relining with Atlac™ Premium

Leaking sewage pipes can now be repaired and restored in an environmentally-friendly way with Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP) relining systems based

on Atlac™ Premium resins from DSM. These relining systems offer local and regional governments the opportunity to repair leaking pipes quickly and

cost effectively. CIPP is a robust and well-proven solution that helps you make repairs without causing disruption to traffic, road congestion or unnec-

essary road works.

The relining method of CIPP involves a reinforced liner of glass or felt that is impregnated with a resin system. This liner is then inserted into the dam-

aged or leaking sewer pipe and cured via steam, water or light. After curing, a new composite sewer pipe is created within the pipe, which is even

stronger and longer lasting than the original pipe. The relining system enables long lengths of pipe to be renovated at the same time giving shorter

installation time for the engineer.

The Difference is Sustainability >>

Atlac™ Premium is completely label free

compared to existing resin systems as it consists

of environmentally friendly components. It also

poses no risk to water purification processes

and will not pollute the ground. Additionally

it does not affect the ecological environment

around sewers as there is no risk of disturbing

the nitrification process.

As well as its ‘green’ benefits Atlac™ Premium

is also safer and easier to use at the workplace

and during installation. There is no need for

special safety procedures, no exposure risk for

the user and there is no restriction on storage.

The additional benefit is that Atlac™ Premium

is odor free. This is important in urban or

densely populated areas, where smells can

cause unnecessary concern. For labeled resins

special precautions may be required, which

can be inconvenient and restrictive even in low

concentrations.

The new Atlac™ Premium resin system is able to

combine today’s strict performance requirements

of CIPP solutions while helping you to consider

minimizing impact on the environment.

Atlac™ Premium SystemA number of different resins can be used for making CIPP relining solutions depending on the composition and temperature

of the waste water. For normal sewer conditions, polyester resin is the most commonly used. For more industrial sewer

conditions, which often use higher temperature waste water, vinyl ester and/or epoxy resin systems are normally the

chosen options. With the new Atlac™ Premium resins, DSM combines the advantages of existing resins systems used for

relining with the added benefit of low environmental impact. DSM’s use of label-free components (i.e. components that

have no hazardous chemicals) has enabled it to produce relining technology that offers you cost-effective and less-

disruptive repairs without compromising the environment. Its features include:

- Label-free resins, a major step forward for sustainability;

- No smell, ideal for urban areas and/or residential environments;

- Strong chemical resistance (depending on conditions of the waste water);

- High temperature resistant;

- Mechanical properties meet strict European standards: “EN 13566-4”;

- Impregnation in controlled environment (not at location);

- Curing process can be perfectly regulated by temperature or light;

The ATLAC™ PREMIUM system is part of DSM’s portfolio of products that reinforce our commitment to safe, sustainable solutions.

Performance and impact testing Atlac™ Premium >>The performance and impact of Atlac™ Premium

has been measured and tested by an independent

industry regulator. The product was positively

tested in a 10,000 hour test for DIN 761/DIN 53

769-3. It was approved and certified in 2008 by

the German Hygiene Institute des Ruhrgebiets

after research into its impact on groundwater.

DSM also continuously tests and evaluates its

performance.

Industry launch of Atlac™ Premium >>

In March 2007, DSM’s new environmentally

friendly resin system, Atlac™ Premium, was

introduced to the market. The result was a

completely renovated sewer pipe system,

installed without inconvenience to local resi-

dents. It offered fast, low-hassle installation

and an expected lifespan of over 30 years.

DSM’s Atlac™ Premium has now been used

extensively for the installation and renovation of

sewers all over the Netherlands, including in the

municipalities of Heerlen, Dalfsen, Maastricht,

Oldenbroek and many more.

DSM has a proven product range, yet we do

not rest on our laurels. DSM keeps working,

testing and developing Atlac™ Premium as well

as other new materials and applications for the

sewer rehabilitation market.
