The author and her books have also inspired museums, libraries, a U.S. postage stamp, stage adaptations, historic highways, a LauraPalooza conference attended by fans and scholars, and a crater on Venus. As Wilder fans celebrate the 85 th anniversary of the publication of Little House on the Prairie, American Masters is pleased to premiere Laura Ingalls Wilder: Prairie to Page. The film explores the cultural legacy and complicated history of the unlikely author – a Midwestern farm woman who published her first novel at age 65 – and reveals how she transformed her early life into enduring legend, a process that involved a little-known collaboration with her daughter Rose. It’s a new year, which means new British programming to stream, binge and enjoy! First up: Two-time Academy Award-winner Glenda Jackson stuns in Elizabeth is Missing on Masterpiece (Mondays at 8pm premiering January 4). Her dramatic performance as a woman desperately trying to solve two mysteries as she declines deeper into dementia won her both a BAFTA and an International Emmy Award. This adaptation of Emma Healey’s acclaimed novel depicts feisty grandmother Maud Horsham, who is trying to find her friend Elizabeth, who ominously goes missing, and uncover the truth of what happened to her idolized older sister, who disappeared years ago when they were kids, never to be seen again. As memories, clues and deductions pile up, viewers come not only to see the world as Maud does but also to solve the mystery like this vision-haunted sleuth. Another book adaptation also makes its way back to the small screen in January. All Creatures Great and Small on Masterpiece (Mondays at 9pm beginning January 11) brings James Herriot’s adventures as a veterinarian in 1930s Yorkshire to life in this seven-part series. Exciting newcomer Nicholas Ralph makes his television debut as the recently hired (and recently qualified) vet at Skeldale House, located in one of England’s most beautiful landscapes. Tales of country life in the North of England are re-imagined from the 1970s for a modern audience, introducing a new generation to Herriot’s life-affirming stories the iconic vet with inspiring humor, compassion and love of life. In addition to those compelling series, do yourself a favor and tune-in to Midsomer Murders Saturdays at 8pm. We’re airing Season 14 – DCI John Barnaby joins DS Benjamin Jones investigate the scandals and deadly deeds that lurk beneath the well-manicured surface of the seemingly idyllic country of Midsomer.
