Athletics Carnival
A school assembly will be held this Friday 28 June commencing at 2.40pm to announce the winners of the athletics carnival. Parents/caregivers and families are welcome to attend to celebrate the achievements of our great athletes.
A full report will be included in next week’s newsletter.
Western Region Tennis Trials On Monday 17 June I travelled to Orange to participate in the Western Region Tennis Trials. I attended the Indoor Tennis Centre to compete in pool matches to see if I qualify in the Western Team to go to State.
I started at 9am and my first match was up against Ben. Although I was beaten 6-0, I achieved a great first serve. My second match was up against Seth. Completing a total of 3 splits in that match and saving 1 match point, it was the same result - 6-0.
My third match was against Callum. Although I only won one game, I saved 9 match points and in the last game it went to deuce 5 times, the final score being 6-1.
My last pool match was up against Bailey. I couldn't live up to my efforts in my last match and I lost 6-0, although I did some exceptional drop shots.
Overall it was a great experience to kick off my career as a tennis representative in the future.
I would like to say thanks to Mr Jones for organising the day, it was a great experience.

Student Learning
Year 12 Advanced/ Standard English
Our Year 12 students are counting down the days until their formal schooling comes to an end. This does not mean they have loosened the reins on their learning program. Rather, it has seen them embrace the challenges of our newest module, ‘Craft Of Writing’. Both groups have been busily refining their composing and responding skills under the watchful eyes of their coordinating teachers, Mr Knight (Tullamore) and Mrs Tremain.
Students have explored the dynamic relationship between audience, language, authorship and writing. After close reading and viewing of selected prescribed texts and other related texts, students have increased their understanding, appreciation and ability to experiment with the ways different language forms, genres, modes and media invite audiences to embrace, challenge or reject the representation of ideas, characters, events and perspectives in texts. They have also considered whether aspects of writing craft are effective and reflect on how they can adapt these aspects in their own compositions.
Last week, the English Standard class commenced their study of a selection of poems from Oodgeroo Noonuccal – The Past, China... Woman, Reed Flute Cave, Entombed Warriors, Visit to Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, Sunrise on Huampu River, A Lake Within a Lake. These poems are the prolific result of her visit to China in 1984 and demonstrate the beautiful interplay between her indigenous heritage and her Chinese experiences.
