From Laurie and Dal...As another summer comes to an end we find ourselves looking back and reflecting on the last 7 weeks.
This really has been an incredible summer. We say that every year because it’s true, but there really was something special about this one.
The weather was perfect and we had amazing counsellors and fantastic specialists running our activities. Wingate Wars, Super Bowl, MAC, and our theme days were amazing. Our outings to Waterslides, movies, mini golf and Santa Clause Village added some great highlights to the schedule. These were some of the things that helped make for a great summer.
But when we look back at the summer, what made it so special was more than the activities and special events, it’s the things that happen in camp that are impossible to recreate anywhere but here. The feeling of jumping in the lake on a hot day with your friends, having a cookout for dinner with s’mores in the woods over a fire, the rope burn during marathon, singing as loud as you can during sing song and staying up late into the night laughing and talking with your best camp friends. Those are just a few of the things that make camp so special.
As the weather gets cooler and you get ready to start a new school year we hope you remember what makes this place so special.
To the high seniors, as you say goodbye to your camper years we hope you enjoyed every minute of this summer. To the many juniors we had in camp this year, you are just starting your camp life at Wingate, you have so much to look forward to and we can’t wait to watch you grow up here. To the inters and rest of the seniors, you are the heart of this camp, embracing and excited about everything that we do here. After seeing you grow up in camp and evolve into the amazing campers that you are, we know the future of Wingate is bright.
Thank you for making this summer such an amazing one for us. We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to spend the summer with you.
Have a great year and we can’t wait to see you all again for summer 2019!LAurie and Dal
From Head Staff...As we look back on summer 2018, we can’t help but notice how lucky we are. Every summer has its ups, downs, and different amazing memories, but there is always one common denominator; the amazing campers. As head staff, we wear multiple hats – we oversee the campers and make sure they’re happy, while doing the same for the staff. We organize special events, make sure activities are running smoothly and try to ensure that each and every one of you has the best experience as humanly possible each summer. But in the end, no matter how hard we work, and no matter how many hours we put in to organizing the summer, the campers are what make all of these events fun and worthwhile. You are all the heart and soul of this camp, and without you there would be no camp. Thank you all for being the best, most fun and spirited campers in the world. We love each and every one of you, and can’t thank you enough for the amazing memories you have given us all.
Love,Jesse, Ari, Mook and Jess
I remember when I was younger I’d sit on that lawn, Looking around as I stifled a yawn. The buses are coming it’s almost that time, That I leave in my wake my childhood’s prime. I think back on the summer on the weeks that have passed, And I can’t help but wonder will this be my last? The memories flash to when I was a child, Running with friends oh how we were wild. Fast forward in time to a moment when I, Walked past bunk 7, sun low in the sky. This nostalgia I feel I cannot explain, Just those beside me relate to my pain. This is the place where I learned how to play, The friendships I’ve made still last to this day. I made my own bed built my own shelf, This is the place I discovered myself. I wandered at night through camp I would rush, Staying low in the shadows, my voice in a hush. Filled with joy, with laughter and all the above, ‘Cause camp is the place, where I first fell in love. How to give back, to a place that has given, Me all the things, for which I have striven. The scars disappear, the memories fade, But I’m here forever due to friendships I’ve made. The answers the same on every exam, Wingate has made me the man that I am.
Enjoy the last few days my man. Enjoy them for what they are and what they’ll be, For what you hear and what you’ll see,Will stay with you for all your days, From putting on the hits to Wingate plays. That bridge is a portal like no other, Where a camper’s your son and co staff your brother. From that counselors lounge to the lower field net, Heed my words don’t live with regret. So in the days to come imprint your stamp, ‘Cause in years you will realize there’s nothing like camp. For whether you study med, engineering, or political science, You’re all just the same by this special alliance. I don’t speak of Greek letters you wear on your chest, No this goes beyond that silly little crest. For the wounds that don’t heal, those that turn into scars, Are those that we suffer under camp Wingate stars.

This summer Bunk 1 was filled with an incredible group of kind, enthusiastic girls. It was truly amazing to watch them mature and come together as a sisterhood as the summer progressed. The many special moments and events that they experienced together will never be forgotten. From being chosen as camper captains to placing in POTH to having a blast on their high senior trip, the girls went through it all with big smiles on their faces and positive attitudes. Although it’s always sad to see this summer come to an end, we are confident that the memories we’ve created will last a lifetime. We feel so fortunate to have been able to spend this summer getting to know each and every one of you. We hope you girls have an amazing year and we can’t wait to see you all next summer! Thanks for all the memories!

What an amazing summer we had in bunk 2! From all our choreographed dances to never ending stories to our many trust circles, there was never a dull moment.
Our first big event was POTH where the girls came together to put on a touching performance of “Unpretty”. They really lit up the stage! Next came Wingate Wars where they showed great teamwork and camp spirit. The month ended with Super Bowl where they all put in their best efforts and played in a super exciting game!
We had so much fun this summer!! Whether it was an unbirthday party or a bat mitzvah, the girls were always up for fun!
As counselors we are so thankful to have had such a great group of girls. We miss them so much and hope to see them all again next year!

From the first day of camp, we realized that Bunk 3 was definitely a very special group of girls! Bunk 3’s high spirits and willingness to learn gave us two incredible months and countless unforgettable moments. We will never forget the many Uno games, all of the silly moments on the blob, the many water fights on the hottest days, chasing the chipmunks, late night story times, pizza parties, and everyone’s favorite; candy parties that ended in sugar rushes!! Some special things that we did as a bunk this year were our outing to mini golf which ended in an ice cream party, our POTH performance that we worked so hard on, and making lots of slime at A&C. Some bunk 3’s favorite camp activities were waterski, stando, A&C, and drama. We were even lucky enough to have every girl participate in a skit during the big show that was put on for the whole camp at the end of first month! However, without a doubt, our bunk had the most fun playing tetherball every chance they got! Overall, we really did have the most amazing bunk in camp. We created memories that we will all never forget. We’re grateful that we had the opportunity to have had so much fun all together for two months. We’re already looking forward to (and planning!) bunk reunions after camp, and can’t wait to have play dates throughout the school year.
To the girls of bunk 3, thank you for sharing your summer with us and for allowing us to have the best time. We’re already counting down the days until summer 2019. We can’t wait to see you all soon!

Bunk 4 summer started off with a splash! They put on an amazing performance on the Wingate Hall center stage during POTH! Their greatness didn’t stop there as they dominated the Gaga Ball pit for several weeks. They displayed incredible hockey skills; whether it was on the ice or in the Thunderdome for ball hockey. One thing was for sure, they lit up camp with their infectious smiles and can do attitudes!!
Bunk 4 showed off their competitiveness , enthusiasm and sportsmanship during Wingate Wars. The boys did every challenge without hesitation and even created an incredible cheer for the whole camp.
Super Bowl 2018 was a match for the ages! The boys showed off their football skills on the gridiron as they battled for glory!
To the boys of bunk 4, you were an incredible bunch this year! Whether it was playing soccer on ET field, boating on the lake, singing your hearts out at sing song or just chilling in front of a bonfire with smores, we loved spending our summer with you and hope to see you all again next summer!
Bunk 4 staff: Zak Sigler, Mikey Lindsay, Shayne Cohen, Dan Cleverly
Bunk 5Samson Adler, Charlie Bufante, Noah Carson, Adrian Corey, James Levine, Aidan Miller, Jake Perez, Holden Shear, David Stein
Bunk 5 had an incredible summer this year! They started off the summer with a bang as they rode through the heat wave on the beach, at boating, at waterski, and with lots of water fights!! Bunk 5 was always ready to tackle any new activity and challenges thrown at them. At POTH, they showed that instead of just following a routine, they wanted to be creative and perform original and exciting moves they created themselves resulting in an amazing performance!! Bunk 5 displayed their competitiveness, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship in Wingate Wars. The boys excelled at every challenge that was given to them and did not let the heat wave deter them from doing their best! Superbowl 2018 exceeded last year’s thriller! It was a match dominated with touchdowns thrown left & right! Bunk 5 boys were an incredible group this year! From wall climbing, jumping on the blob on the lake, playing gaga ball, soccer, ball hockey or enjoying a cookout in the woods, this was truly an unforgettable summer!
We hope to see you all again next year for another INCREDIBLE summer! Bunk 5 Staff: Sydney, Arthur and Mijael

Being a part of the Bunk 6 experience has been unlike any other! A bunk full of girls whose excitement for camp was tangible! From the moment they were unpacked and we looked around our rainbow and sparkle filled cabin we knew we were in for the most amazing summer! Within the first few days of camp the girls bonded so beautifully! We had POTH and were so proud of our performance; Party in the USA. It was amazing and unforgettable. The girls came together and worked so hard until it was stage ready! Wingate Wars brought out everyone’s competitive spirit, Harry Potter day was filled with magic and the Carnival indulged all of their favorite things as they bounced on inflatables, got their faces painted, ate snow cones and cotton candy, and tried to dunk staff in the dunk tank!! Every bit of the summer brought out more activities that we couldn’t wait to be a part of. Going to Santa Claus Village, showcasing our skills in the talent show, taking part in the musicale end of session show, and of course singing our hearts out at sing song! In bunk 6 we were always ready for fun; from our fort making, pyjama parties, dance parties and master chef competitions – no one was ever bored!! As the summer slowly comes to an end we are proud to say that the girls in bunk 6 became the closest of friends and we know these friendships will last a lifetime! The energy that our bunk brought to the camp was positive, spirited, enthusiastic and super cozy! We are so sad to say goodbye to summer 2018 but are already excited to see what summer 2019 will bring!

The bunk 7 girls had a fun filled summer with lots of memories. The girls started off the summer by placing second in POTH to Girls Like You by Maroon 5 in which they emphasized the importance of girl power. These girls brought nothing but enthusiasm and fun to every activity they did from waterski to boating to time on the blob and most of all dance. They ended the summer the same way they started off with the spotlight shining on them during their performance in the dance show. These girls never failed to have positive attitudes about anything and everything. Overall, we are so grateful for all the fun times we shared with them and for all the memories we’ve created.
We are looking forward to more dance parties, late night talks and another amazing summer with the girls in bunk 7 in 2019!

This summer at camp, bunk 8 was definitely the most fun and exciting bunk at camp! Right from day 1, this bunk was destined to have an amazing summer. There is no doubt that both campers and staff would tell you that they had the time of their lives at camp! The kids put on an incredible performance for POTH to the song Man in the Mirror and organized it by themselves. Creating this performance brought them all together and the end result was very impressive. Being high seniors to these boys means one thing: Super Bowl game under the lights with the whole camp watching. They waited for this game their whole camp career and did not waste their opportunity. The game went into double overtime, with the ACC team finally winning by 1 point. The campers took this competitive and spirited mindset towards all of their activities and made regular soccer periods into competitive games. From the privilege of being camper captains to a regular night chilling in a bunk with their closest friends, bunk 8 cherished every moment and made summer 2018 one to remember.
Thanks boys for an incredible summer,Mitch, Eric & Noah M.

From the minute the mid senior boys got off the bus, you could see that there was an instant chemistry that was clear to anyone that walked into the bunk. Every kid in the bunk played their part in bringing their own unique personality to the bunk. Whether it was a sports period with the bunk, POTH, or even dance periods, bunk 9 could be found laughing hysterically and making any activity into a period to remember. The connection the mid senior boys made is one that lasted throughout the summer and one that will surely continue into the school year. Every kid in the bunk found their way to leave their impression, and it was amazing to watch them grow as a bunk throughout the summer and form lasting bonds that they will be able to look back at with a smile.
Boys, thanks for another incredible summer. We can’t wait to see you all again next year for your high senior summer!!

We had an amazing summer in bunk 10! The chemistry between bunkmates was impeccable. As soon as everyone got off the bus electricity was in the air. On the first weekend came POTH, bunk 10 put on quite a performance. We POTHED To cleopatra by the Lumineers. Each performer was amazing! Afterwards came Wingate Wars. Two days filled with amazing activities and a boat load of fun. The boys of bunk 10 tried their hardest and the result came down to the wire. After a well fought Lakota reigned supreme. The next week brought super bowl, a true battle of perseverance. The boys practiced and mastered their craft for 2 days. After a long and hard fought match it was the SEC who pulled out the victory. The next week was the last for some of the bunk 10 boys, we had a great time with the first month campers and we will cherish those memories forever. During second month a few new boys joined our bunk and added to the great chemistry we already had. The next two weeks were filled with tons of great fun activities. Then came MAC. Frozen vs the incredibles with Frozen coming out on top. All in all this really was a great summer that will go down as one of the best in Wingate history.
Have a great year and see you next summer,Max and Oli

The summer of the bunk 14 boys was a great one! With many different faces and different personalities, there was never a shortage of excitement and fun in the bunk. No matter how long a camper stayed at camp for, he was always involved and loved. Each contributed to the amazing summer we had. Camp went fast this year, and the beginning of camp seems like yesterday. Here’s a run down of some the highlights:
1. We won POTH again for the second year in a row with a remarkable display of talent from everyone.2. Wingate Wars was hype with the kids giving their hearts and souls to the event.3. Superbowl brought out the best in the boys dominating both games they played in.4. In intercamp games, the boys were undefeated this summer. I truly believe they will never lose!5. Countless bunk memories and jokes that the boys will never forget.
Overall, it is the boys that make the summer great, and with the always smiling and life loving bunk 14 boys, this summer was unreal.
Love you boys,See you next summer!Harry, James and Lucas
Bunk 16Jonathan Finkel, Zack Ifrah, Benjamin Kerner, Jake Lubarsky, Taryn Mizrahi, Misha Seltzer, Matias Soto, Will Velan
What a summer we had in bunk 16! Over the course of the summer, there was never a dull moment with these boys. You could always find them having fun at ball hockey in the thunderdome, at the beach, playing gaga ball, sports on lower field, or just diablo-ing and yoyo-ing in the bunk. These boys never lost their energy and were up to trying every new activity with smiles on their faces! With highlights like our awesome surprise trip to the casse croute for ice cream, mini golf, waterslides, movies, bonfires, cookouts and so much more, these boys sure did know how to make memories that will last a lifetime.
Boys, thank you for making this summer so amazing. For both us, this was our first summer at Wingate and we could not have asked for a better group of boys to have spent our summer with.

While it’s tough to grasp the idea that you guys will no longer be a bunk, the memories made over the past 7 summers together will never be forgotten. Despite some truly incredible summers, this one could not have gone any better. From our water war with Martin, to the trip To Ronto/New Orleans, to the second month squad, we feel as if we’ve really taken advantage of our last 2 months as a group. Being with all of you each and every summer has truly ENHANCED our time at camp. While for some of you this may be the end of your camp careers, all we can hope is that you enjoyed every single moment you spent here, because there truly is nothing like camp. For those of you planning on coming back to camp as staff, we can only hope that you pass on the traditions we handed to you, and create your own incredible memories with your kids. From the bottom of our hearts, we can’t thank you guys and girls enough for being a part of our lives for the past 7 years and we are beyond proud of the people you have all become. Now that our time in camp is over, we don’t expect to hear from any of you except if you have a good business plan or if you need law insurance. We love you all like business associates. Special shout-out to the elongation nation.
Love,Mook and Jesse

For years, SEC teams have dominated the college football landscape and have won most of the national championships. However, with the emergence of the college football playoff system, a fierce rivalry between the South-Eastern Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference has begun (SEC vs ACC). Despite having equally strong conferences, the selection committee tends to favor SEC teams; which causes the ACC to live in the shadow of the SEC. After four SEC teams and zero ACC teams are selected to play in the playoffs, there is an outbreak amongst ACC faithful. In order to determine which conference is truly superior, a series of bowl games will be held at Camp Wingate where each age group will be representing a different college football team within these two conferences.

Apache vs LakotaFollowing Apache’s victory in the last Wingate Wars, the tribe’s descendants have ruled supreme over the lands they conquered. Every generation, the Great Shaman’s son would take over the throne from his father, preserving the family’s power over their subjects. An aging Shamook decides it is time to pass over his crown to his eldest son, Bonaj, who seems to be more than fit to take over the kingdom and rule the people in a strong, but fair, manner. However, unexpectedly, a Lakota royal, Choppy, comes to Bonaj before his swearing in and challenges him for the throne. While at first Bonaj dismisses him, he is taken aback when Choppy explains that he has a right to throne because he and Bonaj share the same mother, Cam, but a different father, ChopDaddy. With the help of his secret worshippers and a few Apache members that pledge allegiance to his cause, Choppy storms the kingdom hoping to regain Lakota’s place on the royal throne. As the Voice of the Earth explains, a Wingate War is the only way to solve this issue.

After years of fighting, Frozone and Honey Best have decided to call it quits. While Mr.
Incredible and his family are well aware of this, they were stunned to learn that Frozone
had sparked up a secret romantic relationship with Elsa from Arendale. While on his way
to meet Elsa, Frozone is called into action to once again help save Metroville – until his
plans were compromised, and the Incredibles learn about what’s really been going on with
him. While this news comes as quite the shock, the Incredibles are even more stunned to
learn that Frozone is thinking about making the move to Arendale a permanent one – but
the Incredibles won’t let him leave without a fight. Frozone is in quite the conundrum –
does he follow his heart to Arendale, or remain loyal to the only city he has ever known?

Sing it loud and proud, cause that’s what really counts. It’s not about winning and losing, it’s about being here as a team and as a camp united, with full hearts knowing that you would give up anything to spend one extra day surrounded by these amazing people in this amazing place.
High seniors, you only get one shot at this, so make the most of it. Before you know it, you’re no longer a camper and everything you know about camp is just a memory, so hold on tight.
We love you all. “The scars disappear, the memories fade, but we never have to leave cause of friendships we’ve made.”
