Pleasant Dawn CharolaisDear friends and customers, Ashley and I, with our entire family, would like to invite you to our 19th Annual Bull Sale. Your comments on the bulls and how the calves perform really make me want to produce an even more profitable product for you! Profitably is always #1, and it starts with calving ease. Based on our birth weights and EPDs, they are breed leaders. We find that early gestation is so important and heritable. A small calf that goes full term gestation is usually a smaller calf in the fall; but a smaller calf, from early gestation, can give top performance. That is one way we have achieved below average birth weights, with above average performance, and the EPDs to correlate the stats. We like long, smooth calves, not short, blocky calves. The bottom line is beef performance and pounds pay our customers and our bills. Length of spine is the next easiest way to add pounds without affecting calving ease, but one of the hardest features to get! Our bulls have thick tops with muscle in their quarter. Longevity is a must in our program, with many females and bulls lasting over a decade by having good feet and legs, to great fertility. Having great mothers is our foundation and they must calve on their own and have good feet and udders, with fertility. Check out our EPDs and you’ll find most are below average for birth and above average for performance and maternal traits. These bulls are backed by generations of seed stock with these traits to give the most consistent, profitable product. Once again, the offering in this 19th Annual Sale is one worth coming to see. Backed by generations of maternal power with calving ease and performance there are bulls here that will fit any program. The sale is a video sale, held in their heated shop with the bulls displayed just outside. So, come early as the bulls won’t be coming through the ring. You are welcome to come to the farm and view the operation and the bulls anytime. As you go through the catalogue you will see that many of the bulls are sired by Pleasant Dawn bulls. Many of these bulls are bulls they have sold, and retained semen

interests, to continue these genetic lines. They, in turn, are great outcross genetics backed by decades of selection within their program. Last year, we saw several bulls go into purebred herds, which is a testament to the quality. All the bulls are polled, and many are tested Homozygous Polled, guaranteeing you all polled offspring from these sires. There were some that had 50K DNA tests to give a Genomically Enhanced EPD and thus a higher accuracy to the EPD. They are marked in the catalogue with a GEPD. From bulls that would work in the heifer pen to performance bulls that will give your calf crop the added performance you desire, come to have a look. Advantage of 50K testingEPDs contain information from an animal’s pedigree, performance and possibly DNA (50K Testing) which are directly used tocalculate the EPD for that animal in each specific trait. The use of DNA in the EPD calculation allows us to dramatically increase the accuracy of the EPD for animals that have been 50K tested. These Genomically-enhanced EPDs allow us to greatly enhance our selection process and better predict the genetic potential of that animal, particularly in your cattle (calves, yearling bulls and heifers) that have no offspring to evaluate.For example, in the evaluation of an animal’s DNA (50K test), it is roughly equivalent to the reporting of:• 10 offspring from the tested animal when calculating Calving Ease• 25 offspring from the tested animal when calculating Birth Weight• 15 offspring from the tested animal when calculating Weaning Weight• 8 offspring from the tested animal when calculating Yearling WeightSo in summary, it goes without saying that if you were selecting a bull for Birth Weight, it would be a lot more predictable to select a bull that already had information on 25 calves than a bull that didn’t have information on any calves and only relied on information from his sire and dam and his own birth weight.In this catalogue Genomically-enhanced EPDs are designated as GEPD.

Pleasant Dawn Inferno is another Homozygous Red calf out of Captain Morgan. His mother is a tremendous milking mother. You can use these reds on your whites for a tan calf or on blacks and still get black calves, or use them on reds and get reds. Any way you use him, you get the hybrid vigor of the Charcross for added pounds.

Kathy and I raise beef for the consumer to enjoy, not cattle for show. We have always rail graded our finished cattle and rely heavy on EPDs. The Hatch family’s genetics have been a sound part of our crossbreeding program and has shown positive in our feedlot results. We have been through a few ups and downs in the cattle cycle and found that a solid crossbreeding program that gives us live calves that convert grass to beef and have the gut capacity to perform well in the feedlot will save us money at the end of the day. Until the consumer says they don’t like beef, I expect the Hatch’s bulls to be part of our herd. PleasantDawn Vessel is a vessel that will add dollar value to any operation! He is a maternal brother to last year’s high seller going to McTavish Farms and Howe Coulee Charolais, SK. Vessel is one stout, long spined individual, with natural spring of rib, with extra depth. It just doesn’t happen, to get them this long, with this much depth, width and guts, on a smaller frame. He has a great foot, with extratesticle and awsome temperament. His sire, Turnbull’s Full Moon, is turning out to be a great bull, with his birth to performance hard to match. PleasantDawn Craft is one long spined calf out of the new CCC Resource bull, who has been working really well in the States! His mother never gives me a big calf and as an added bonus, her Grandmother is Arrow, who produced 15 calves in 17 years and was in the top 1% for Milk EPD, talk about fertility. Craft would work on heifers and will add extra length and good muscle!

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has

reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer.
