Margaret Pomeranz Margaret Pomeranz AM co-hosted The Movie Show on SBS and At the Movies on ABC television with David Stratton for nearly three decades. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University and was selected for the Playwright’s Studio at NIDA, after which she began writing for television, radio and film. She joined the newly established Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) in 1980 as writer/producer, which led to her being

appointed producer for David Stratton’s movie hostings. Some years later, in 1986, the duo were able to get The Movie Show up and running. They moved to the ABC in 2004 to establish At The Movies. Margaret is currently presenting films on Foxtel and is the film critic on Stage and Screen.

David Stratton AM was the well-known co-presenter of At the Movies on ABC television. He is also a former director of the Sydney Film Festival, former film critic for international film industry magazine Variety, and is currently film critic for The Australian. A recipient of the Australian Film Institute’s Raymond Longford Award, David has also served as a former president of the International Critics Jury for the Cannes and Venice film festivals, authored two books and is now lecturing in Film History as part of the Continuing Education Program at the University of Sydney. He is the successful leader of four previous Film Festivals at Sea. David’s decades-long involvement with movies makes him the ideal person to lead this exciting cruise.

Day 1 Friday, July 6, 2018 Depart AustraliaToday we depart Australia on our flight to Rome.

Day 2 Saturday, July 7, 2018 Rome, ItalyThis morning we arrive at Rome airport. After clearing customs, we will be met by our private coach and travel to central Rome. We will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the ‘Eternal City’ and see the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, where group members can throw a coin and make a wish to return to Rome one day. In the afternoon we will check in to our hotel.

Day 3 Sunday, July 8, 2018 RomeToday we visit the famous Cinecitta Film Studios. Founded in 1937 by Benito Mussolini, the studios have been making films ever since. Federico Fellini made many of his films here and many famous classics, including Ben Hur and Cleopatra, were also shot here. We will see some of the sets from the Fellini films as well as some of the ‘sword and sandal’ epics.

Day 4 Monday, July 9, 2018 Celebrity ReflectionThis morning we will be transferred to the harbour to board the Celebrity Reflection for our voyage on the Mediterranean. Be up on deck as the ship slips her moorings at 5pm for the start of our fabulous 11-night cruise. Join us before dinner for a drinks party to welcome the group to the ship.

Day 5 Tuesday, July 10, 2018 Florence, ItalyToday we visit the historic city of Florence, capital of Tuscany and home town of Lorenzo the Magnificent and Michelangelo. We will join a local guide for a tour through the city. We will see the Cathedral, with its enormous dome, the Baptistry, Piazza della Signoria, the famous Ponte Vecchio and more. There will be some free time for individual activity before returning to the ship.

Day 6 Wednesday, July 11, 2018 Nice, FranceWe arrive this morning in the French Riviera city of Nice. We have a sightseeing tour of this elegant city, including its flower market, before travelling to the fairytale principality of Monaco. We will see the famous Monte Carlo Casino, Grand Prix circuit and cathedral, where Princess Grace is buried. This evening David and Margaret will screen a film.

Day 7 Thursday, July 12, 2018 Barcelona, SpainThis morning David and Margaret will screen a film. Late in the morning, we arrive at Barcelona, capital of Catalonia and second largest city in Spain. After lunch, we will have a sightseeing tour of the city. In Barcelona’s gothic quarter, we will see the historic cathedral and the medieval streets and the modernist Eixample district, known for the architecture of Antoni Gaudi. We see examples of Gaudi’s architecture, including the famous Sagrada Familia.

Day 8 Friday July 13, 2018 BarcelonaToday we travel into the mountains above Barcelona to the historic monastery of Montserrat, founded in 1025 and, according to legend, the resting place of the Holy Grail. We will see the famous Black Madonna of Montserrat and admire the amazing views before we return to Barcelona and the ship.

Day 9 Saturday, July 14, 2018 At seaThe morning will be free to relax. This afternoon, join David and Margaret for today’s film session.

Day 10 Sunday, July 15, 2018 Gibraltar, UKThis morning we call in to the British territory of Gibraltar. We have a sightseeing tour of the famous Rock of Gibraltar and see the fortress that has been held by the British for centuries. We see the Barbary apes; legend has it, that if they

Completed by 1391, it is one of the most spectacular Arabic buildings in the world. We visit this and the impressive gardens surrounding the Alhambra, before returning to the ship. This evening David and Margaret will screen a film.

Day 12 Tuesday, July 17, 2018 Cartagena, SpainThis morning we arrive in Cartagena, a city founded by the Romans around 220BC and enjoy a sightseeing tour. We will see Cervantes House, widely considered to be Cartagena’s most impressive Art Nouveau building, the Grand Hotel, La Concepción and the Town Hall and admire uninterrupted views over iconic sites, and visit the mighty Roman Theatre of Carthago Nova. Later there will be free time to further explore the city. This evening David and Margaret will screen a film.

Day 13 Wednesday, July 18, 2018 Palma, Majorca, SpainThis morning we have a sightseeing tour of Palma, capital of the island of Majorca. We see the main sights of the city, including the cathedral and castle. This afternoon David and Margaret will screen a film.

Day 15 Friday, July 20, 2018 Siena, ItalyThis morning we arrive in the Roman port of Civitavecchia. After we disembark the ship, we travel to the historic town of Orvieto, where we have an included lunch at a winery. We then continue to the city of Siena where we stay for the next four nights.

Day 16 Saturday, July 21, 2018 SienaThis morning we tour the great medieval city of Siena, best known for the famous Palio horse race held in the magnificent Piazza del Campo. Siena is also home to the oldest bank in the world, a spectacular town hall, majestic cathedral and the splendid civic tower in the Piazza del Campo. This afternoon David and Margaret will screen a film in a local cinema.

Day 17 Sunday, July 22, 2018 SienaToday we will visit the town of Pienza, the birthplace of the medieval pope Pius II and the setting for the film, The English Patient. It was the pope’s dream to turn his old townknown in medieval times as Corsignano, into a utopian model town. He commissioned architect Bernardo Rossellino to make it into a jewel of renaissance architecture. The aroma of pecorino cheese and other local specialities will tempt us into the many cheese shops.

Day 18 Monday, July 23, 2018 SienaThe morning will be free to explore Sienna. This afternoon David and Margaret will screen their final film of the tour at a local cinema. This evening we will get together for a farewell dinner to celebrate our Film Festival at Sea.

Day 19 Tuesday, July 24, 2018 DepartureThis morning we will be transferred to Rome airport for our flight back to Australia.

Day 20 Wednesday, July 25, 2018 Arrival in AustraliaWe arrive back in Australia this evening and the tour concludes.
