Termite Control

Termites cause over 2.5 billion dollars in damage each year. They infest struc-tures and do more damage than fire, storms and earthquakes combined. Whilehomeowners insurance will help cover losses from natural disasters, theyalmost never cover termite damage. Whether it's a conventional liquid barriertreatment, Sentricon Colony Elimination System or a combination of methods, your Adams professional has the experience and know-how to provide you withthe termite control and protection that is best for your home.

Liquid Barrier

Liquid barrier treatments have been a reliable method of treatment for over 30years. By applying a liquid barrier under and around the structure's foundation, subterranean termites are denied entry and forced to seek other food sourcesor starve. Conventional termite control treatments can provide years of solidprotection against subterranean termite infestations.

Sentricon Colony Elimination System

For the first time ever, it is possible to destroy subterranean termite colonies. The Sentricon System takes advantage of natural termite behavior. Worker ter-mites constantly forage far and wide, looking for food to feed the colony. When

they find food, like the mon-itoring service in aSentricon station, they leavespecial scent trails to leadtheir nest mates to the foodsource.

When your Sentricon tech-nician discovers termitesfeeding in the station, themonitoring service isreplaced with a baitube ser-vice containing the bait. This action initiates the exclusiveself-recruitment procedure, whichrelies on the termite's natural behav-ior to spread the bait throughout thecolony. The bait contains a sub-stance that stops the moltingprocess so termites can't grow. Intime, the termites in the colony areaffected by the bait and die.

At Kay Fuller Interiors, which hasbeen in business for 27 years, every-thing rustic and antique is transformedinto something new and wonderful, even the building. This building wasNOT built to replicate a 19th centurychurch, it IS actually a 19th centurychurch! The beautiful building, whichwas built as a Methodist church in the1870’s, was once located in Coleman,Georgia. In 1993 Kay and her hus-band purchased the building and hadit moved to Albany. In order to movethe priceless antique, the roof andsteeples had to be removed. Once itarrived in Albany, it was pieced backtogether perfectly where it sits today inLancaster Village. The original alterand all of the heart pine wood that makes up the floor, ceiling, andwalls are still intact. With the addtion of a sample room and anoffice, the building was ready for business in 1994.

Like the building Kay Fuller’s business is in, many of thepieces she offers are lovely and unique antiques that have beengiven a second life. Kay enjoys mixing these type of antique itemswith modern pieces in her designs. Many of her lamps are antique

items, such as crocks, that have been repurposed, so theyare essentially one of a kind lamps. Another example of an antique finding a new life is anumbrella frame found on a trip to England which was converted to a chandelier.

In her design Kay also mixes painted furniture with wood furniture for a classy look. Sittingareas are now being decluttered and simplified with accent pillows or throw blankets adding a touch of pattern. Kay makes use of oldtapestries to create colorful throw pillows for sitting areas. When it comes to wall hangings, sketches and mirrors are very popular. Also, unexpected items such as pizza pans can be utilized to create visual interest. All of the items in Kay’s showroom are unique and manyhave a story behind them, such as the hutch pictured on the cover. The hutch is from the late 1700’s and has layers of distressed paintthat could not be duplicated with modern techniques.

Both the building and the showroom prove that anything oldcan be made new and vibrante again. The repurposed church is pic-turesque and fits perfectly with the old-timey feel that LancasterVillage portrays. Once you turn into thedrive, you feel as if you have been trans-ported back to yester year, and it givesyou a warm and welcoming feeling. KayFuller Interiors can give the same warmand welcoming feeling to your home withthe mix of antique and modern items.

I have always had a love for cooking.I read cookbooks like most people wouldread a novel. I can spend hours in anystore that specializes in kitchen gadgets, gourmet foods, etc. I have even learnedto grow an herb garden just to be able tohave my own stock of favorite herbs forcooking. Indeed cooking is a passion!Even those that don’t enjoy cookingitself, enjoy being around it. Why do youthink people at family gatherings anddinner parties always end up in thekitchen? People are drawn together bycooking good food! There seems to benothing better to show someone youcare for them than by cooking somethingwonderful for them.

Like any southern girl “raised right”, Iknow that when someone has companyyou take them food! This is also truewhen someone has a birth, death, badday, birthday, etc. Just ask my friendVivian Stern, she can go into cookinghigh gear and make the best chickensalad in an instant for any occasion!

Over theyears, I havecooked formany familyand friends.I havecooked forholidays, family cook-

outs, and elegant dinner parties. However, one of the most special occa-sions I cooked for was when friends Johnand Caron O’Hanlon had family visitingfrom England. I had to make somethingthat said “welcome to south Georgia”! Idecided to make one of my “Mimi’s”favorite dishes, cornbread salad.

When I arrived at the O’Hanlon homewith my dish, I was greeted with suchappreciation. I was asked all about therecipe, where it came from, and ofcourse, what was in it. I guess thethought of a whole pound of bacon, may-onnaise, cheese, and cornbread doessort of seem like a contradiction in taste, not to mention health, to the tomatoes, peppers, and sweet Vidalia onions thatare also in it! None the less, it was a hit.A few weeks later, I received a lovelypostcard from England thanking me againfor my “southern hospitality”!

I have made this many times sincethen and it is always a hit! I hope youenjoy it too!

(ARA) - Summer often means enjoying the outdoors with friends and family for a weekendbarbecue or catching some sun by the pool. Now that pleasant weather is upon us, home-owners may be thinking about what can be done to spruce up outdoor space to use forentertaining or for a little relaxation.

When deciding on what you can do to improve your home for summer, think of your outdoorarea as an extension of your indoor living space. Replacing the siding on your home oradding a beautiful outdoor fireplace are just a couple examples of projects that can giveyour outdoor living space the upgrade it needs to make your backyard or patio more desir-able.

"Homeowners are truly starting to view their backyards or patios as an extension of theirindoor living area by creating an 'interior look' outside," says Kit Selzer, senior remodelingand projects editor for Better Homes and Gardens. "This means bringing your interiorpalette outside by choosing decor that complements your indoor look. This can be reflectedin the type of flowers planted, surface material chosen, appliance finishes, etc. You canstart out simple by adding a nice grill or a rolling drink cart - both are great for entertaining."

The use of stone veneer has become increasingly popular in the design of outdoor kitchensand fireplaces, and also as a finishing touch to landscaping. Stone veneer offers the rusticlook of real stone, but is lighter weight and often more affordable than solid rock.

low-maintenance and is easily installed by contractors.

To bring your upgraded exterior look together while adding contrast, consider replac-ing your worn-out, neutral siding with something more vibrant, such as dark-coloredvinyl panels or polymer shakes.

"We've seen many homes move away from standard beige or grey siding andchoose colors such as blues, greens and reds," says Jerry Blais, vice president ofmarketing for Ply Gem siding group. "Vinyl and polymer siding options are also beingmanufactured to look more and more authentic by using variegation techniques that replicate the detail of natural wood. A bolder sidingpanel can also complement the lighter hues often found on stone veneer."

Variegation techniques are also used on fence and rail products to mimic the look of natural wood but with less maintenance. Kroy by PlyGem manufactures fence, rail and outdoor structures, available in many styles and colors including the Woodland Select cedar-looking fin-ishes for a more rustic look.
