July 22nd----Summer Series, Speaker is Foy Forehand Leadership Camp was a Success!

We had a fantastic week at camp last week, and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time

there. It was hot a couple of days, but the nights were cool, and it sprinkled on us

Friday morning. The humidity was a bit taxing, but other than that things went well.

The camp was directed by J. J. Hendrix with the North Jefferson Church of Christ.

We had seven kids and two adults attend from New Boston. There were also

people attend the camp from Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, and even Denver,

Colorado! It was great to be able to meet these Christians from other places in the

country.

The focus of the camp was on leadership in the church, and we had some great

opportunities to teach the kids at camp about leadership. We had great

participation. We divided boys from girls for some events in order to focus upon

each gender’s unique opportunities to serve. Each afternoon I taught a singing

class to the boys group, and every boy in the class took his turn at leading singing

for practice. The kids also had combined morning classes that focused upon

different age groups. I taught one morning on “How to Take Notes Effectively.”

Overall we had thirty-nine kids enrolled in camp. Sixty-six percent of them led in

worship in some capacity and thirty-three percent of them led for the first time. The

camp really did a good job of introducing the kids to the concept of leadership.

First Thessalonians 5:18 says “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in

Christ Jesus concerning you.” On behalf of all of our campers and members, let me

express a word of thanks to our eldership for sending our kids to leadership camp

this year. With their support, our kids gained valuable experience learning how to

lead in the church.

God bless you and I love you. Kevin Cauley

A Christian, His Country and His Hope

I am a Christian first and an American after that. My patriotism never trumps my

Christianity, but I have traveled in roughly 30 countries and I love my country.

I am happy that in our country we have a black president, even if he is not the presi-

dent I want. I am happy in our country we have freedom of speech, even if some-

times that speech degrades all that I hold as Holy. I am thankful we have a system

for justice even if I sometimes don’t agree with the decisions those courts make.

I am thankful that those who would do physical violence to those who practice homo-

sexuality or abortion are punished even though I believe those sins are atrocious. I

am thankful for freedom of religion even if it allows some to practice that religion

which is not religion at all.

I am thankful for the freedom of the press even though that press is often very biased

against those of faith and morality. While there are things I do not like - I know of no

other country on this earth where I would desire to live. But with Abraham I “ love for

a city, which hath foundations, who’s builder and maker is God .”

Dale Jenkins, Preacher at the Spring Meadow Church of Christ

Passed Note

A nearsighted minister glanced at the

note that Mrs. Jones had sent to him by

an usher. The note read:

“Bill Jones having gone to sea, his wife

desires the prayers of the congregation

for his safety.”

Failing to observe the punctuation, he

startled his audience by announcing:

“Bill Jones, having gone to see his wife,

desires the prayers of the congregation

for his safety.”

“Rejoice with the wife of thy youth”.

Proverbs 5:18

“Through wisdom a house is built,

And by understanding it is established;

By knowledge the rooms are filled

With all precious and pleasant riches.”

Proverbs 24: 3-4
