ParentCarParkintheMorningWecontinuetohaveissueswiththecarparkinthemorning.AsIhaveindicatedbeforetherulesofthecarparkarethesamewhetheritbetheafternoonorthemorning.Carsarenotpermittedtodouble-parktoallowchildrenoutofthevehicle.OurschoolcarparkisNOTa‘KissandDrop’zone.Itisnotsafeforchildrentoleavevehiclesifthecarisnotparkedinaparkingspace.SupervisionoftheParentCarParkofanafternooncannotalsooccurinthemorningasthisisatimewhenimportantstaffmeetingsarehappening.PleaserememberthatitisnotpartofthedutiesofthestaffatBeverlyHillsP.S.tosupervisethecarpark.Theexecutivestaff(AssistantPrincipalsandDeputyPrincipal)dothisdutyofanafternoontoassistwiththechildrenleavingtheschoolgroundssafely.Wearerelyingonthesupportofparentstofollowthecarparkrulesinthemorningaswellastheafternoon.Ihaveincludedthesecarparkrulesagainsopeoplecanrespecttheexpectationsoftheschoolandmakeourenvironmentasafeoneforourchildren.NationalConsistentCollectionofData:SchoolStudentswithDisability(NCCD)TheNationalConsistentCollectionofDataonSchoolStudentswithDisabilityisanannualcollectionofdataonthenumberofschoolstudentsreceivinganadjustmenttoaccesseducationduetodisability.Thisinformationwillfocusattentionontheindividualadjustmentsrequiredtosupportstudentswithdisabilityensuringstudentseffectivelyparticipateinlearningonthesamebasisasotherstudents.Thecollectionofdatastrengthenscommunicationbetweenallstakeholdersandenablestheschoolanopportunitytoreviewourlearningandsupportsystemsandprocessestocontinuallyimproveeducationoutcomesforallstudents.Afactsheetforparents,guardiansandcarershasbeenattachedforfurtherinformation.

AthleticsCarnivalTuesdayJune18wasagreatdayforourAthleticsCarnival.Allchildrenparticipatedenthusiasticallyandwithgreateffort.AspecialthankyoutoMrsAustinandMissLonerganfortheirfantasticorganisationontheday.ThankyoualsotothestaffthatmanagedtheeventssoadeptlyandthankyoutothestaffofDancefeverMultisportwhodidagreatjobsupportingtherunningoftheday.Weoftenspeakhighlyofthebehaviourandattitudeofourchildrenhoweveritisfantastictoreceivesuchfeedbackfrompeoplewhohavenoassociationwiththeschool.Theladiesinthecanteensungthepraisesofourchildrenfortheirpolitenessandtherespecttheydisplayedthroughouttheday.
BandfestOurPerformingbandattended'Bandfest'onMonday24June.Theyplayed3songsandwereawardedaGoldtrophyfortheirperformance.MrsAustinandMrsStonewereveryproudoftheirbehaviourandperformance.
PeerSupportWeek9Thisweekwefurtherdeveloptherangeofstrategieswecanuseinchallengingsituations.Thissessionfocusesonstep3ofthemodel,Proceed.Inordertolearnfromsituationsandmoveforwardchildrenneedtogobeyondthinkingof strategiesandaction them.Children recognisedespite theuseofa rangeof strategies, sometimes theycannotchangethesituation.Atthesetimes,itisimportanttoacceptthesituationandmoveforwardwithapositiveoutlook.Encourageyourchildtofollowthroughwithstrategiestheyhavediscussedandplannedtouse. It is importanttothenhelpthemevaluateifthishasworkedoriftheyneedtotryadifferentstrategy.
CodingClubTheCodingClubwerefortunatetohaveMrMoollan(fatherofTariqandIssac)makeapresentationaboutHTML.Heexplainedtothegroupof25studentsthatHTMListhehiddencodethathelpsuscommunicatewithothersontheWorldWideWeb.MrMoollandemonstratedhowtousebasicHTMLcodeandstudentswerekeentoapplywhattheyhadlearnt.Towardstheendofthesession,studentswereamazedwithwhattheyhadcreatedandwantedtolearnmore.MrMoollanendedthesessionbyexplainingtheimportanceofcodeforourfuture.
Stage2NewsStage2havebeencontinuingourScienceunit“SmoothMoves”byexperimentingwithdifferentforces.Wemaderampsfortoycars,usingourknowledgeofforcestotryandmakeourcarstravelthefurthest.Studentsthenputtheirforcesunderstandingtothetest,makingthemarbletravelfromthetopleftcornertothebottomrightcornerofapieceofcardboard,tryingtomakethemarbleslowdownandtakeaslongaspossible.Studentsenjoyedthechallengeandhadcreativesolutions,workingwellwiththeircooperativegroups.
BeverlyHillsPublicSchoolhasbeenfortunateenoughtohaveaccesstoa3DprinterthistermaspartoftheSTEMshareinitiative.Thishasprovidedopportunitiesforstudentstoengageinlearningopportunitiestopromotecreativityandproblemsolving.Asourfirstattempt,Stage2studentsenjoyedusingtheonlinedesignprogram‘Tinkercad’tocreatekeychains.Wethenusedthe3Dprintertobringthemtolife!
