Asus VivoTab ME400C - wiping and clean reinstalling of

Windows 8 Pro

Hello,

I have had some strange issues with my Vivotab Smart ever since day 1 - in spite of severalresets of the OS from the default Asus recovery partition, the issues remained I have even

upgraded to !indows " #ro, but the problems were not solved

So this time I went to the e$treme and wiped out all the e$isting partitions %including the Asus

recovery partitions& and reinstalled a clean, plain vanilla !indows " #ro from scratch 'his

wasn(t too difficult and now everything loo)s li)e it should - no free*es, no crashes and no

une$pected sluggish behavior +verything wor)s as before, all the sensors are functioning, all thedrivers are in place, camera, sound, everything It seems obvious to me that something in the

Asus installation of !indows " or possibly some of the bloatware that the tablet comes

preinstalled with caused these issues

So I thought I would give you a short description how to go ahead

'his is what you need

One ./ 0S/ flash drive

!indows " #ro 2-bit

!indows " #ro activation )ey

An 0S/ O'. cable

An 0S/ hub %to be able to use at least three 0S/ units&

An 0S/ )eyboard

An 0S/ mouse

'he AS0S Vivotab V1 driver pac)age %do not use the V2 pac)age, it contains a

different driver set&

1 3ou first need to ma)e the 0S/ flash drive bootable 'his is easiest performed

with using 4is)#art command .oogle for it and you should find it easily

2 !hen done, copy the content of the !indows " #rofessional 4V4 to the memorystic) It should be the complete installation pac)age, not5ust an ISO image6

4ownload the Asus Vivotab driver pac)age from Asus %AS0S Vivo'ab Smart -

'ablets 7 8obile - AS0S& 0n*ip and copy the content of the pac)age to the 0S/

flash drive

#lug in the 0S/ O'4 cable and the 0S/ hub into the micro-0S/ port of theVivo'ab #lug in the 0S/ flash drive, a )eyboard and the mouse into the hub

9 :eboot the tablet, and hold down the power and volume down buttons until you

get to the /oot selector screen 3ou should be able to see the name of the memory

stic) Scroll to it by using the volume button and select it by clic)ing the

!indows button

; #erform a regular !indows " installation If you wish to wipe out all the e$istingpartitions, feel free to do so, that was what i did 3ou will not be using them

anyway, so you will gain more than " ./ of storage space %from 9? ./ to 9"

" !hen the installation is finished, you will have a basic !indows " installation,

sans most of the drivers 3ou will not have !ifi, camera, sound, .#S and most ofthe other stuff you need If you loo) in the 4evice 8anager, you will see a

frightening array of unrecogni*ed devices 4on(t worry, this is ta)en care of in thene$t step

@ ocate the Asus driver e$ecutable on the 0S/ stic), and double-clic) on it As it

runs, it will find all the devices and load the re=uired drivers for them After this

step, only two unidentified devices will be left 'hese will be fi$ed in the ne$tstep

1? Bonnect to the internet, and run !indows 0pdate 4ownload all the hotfi$es 'his

part ta)es =uite some time, but when done, all the missing drivers have beeninstalled

already activated 'his is however not the #ro version of !indows " If you wish

to upgrade to !indows " #ro %eg to be able to 5oin a domain or to be able to host
