Astrology Numerology & You

Our Moon sign indicates how we adapted to the world around us from birth and how we instinctively and emotionally respond to life. There is nothing more personal and intimate for us astrologically than the Moon. After all, the moon orbits closely around the earth itself and so intimately influences our human embodied experience.

The first and primary influence we experience from birth is the mother as the source of life and nourishment.

We are nurtured and supported in and by her body for nine months and are then born through the gates of her womb out into the world. This birth is a powerful experience and ideally is accompanied with great love, tenderness and honouring of the emergence of a new soul into the world. Some cultures ensure that mother and newborn babe remain in seclusion for a specified period of time to support their intimate and essential bonding. The vulnerable

infants physical, psychological and even soul wellbeing depends on it.

The Moon astrologically describes our experience of our mother and how we bonded with her. In a perfect world we would all have (and would all be) mothers who were warm, safe, supportive, loving and always protective: the loving font of food and unconditional, boundless love, providing us with a feeling of safety in a big world. and baby doesn’t always go well. There are many factors influencing this e.g. the mother’s lifestyle, her physical, mental and emotional health, her relationship with her husband or partner, her experiences of her own mother, the environment and conditions of the birth itself, etc.

Many babies experience separation at birth as they are kept in humidicribs or are cot-rested in nurseries. Many modern mothers experience post-partum depression, which is not surprising in a world that is so disconnected from the natural lunar rhythms of life and nature.

Breastfeeding, time alone with the baby in those early weeks, loss of rest and physical contact with the infant, loving eye to eye contact, all play an important role in the natural bond

between mother and infant. This deep and passionate bond is one that lasts a lifetime (and more), ensures the survival and wellbeing of the child and sets up so much of how we experience the world as adults.

But the Moon is also our own natural maternal, mothering instincts, whether we have children or not. For men and women both, we are compelled to respond to powerful feelings, hormones and ancient instincts that urge us to love and nurture, feed and protect, support and care for those close to us, other people’s children, animals and plants, the environment and our deepest ideals.

“We don’t have to give birth to children to know we’re the mothers of the world. We are the wombs of the generation that follow, not only physically, but emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. Every woman everywhere, whether she works in an advertising agency, politics or the entertainment industry, whether she teaches, sells, waits on tables, answers phones or just wakes up in the morning, is part of motherhood. The fact that the world is not a safe and nurturing place for children is a sacred call to action for every conscious woman.” Marriane Williamson “A Woman’s Worth”.

Astrologically we give the sign of Cancer the rulership of the Moon, for it is Cancer that fulfils the role of mother so perfectly. Her hormones, intuition and feelings guide her to hold the newborn infant at her breast with intimate love, tenderness and care – the Great Mother. Her greatest joy is to raise a family, provide a home that will nourish and support her children to grow strong and healthy. Like Demeter, her challenge is to let them go and find their own way in the world when it is time.

The Great Mother Goddess is the giver of life. She is the primordial uterine waters from which the child (life) emerges and is the unconscious waters from which the individual identity (Leo) emerges. This image of Mother is always with the Cancer or Lunar person, as is the strong urge to nurture and be nurtured. Her bonds with mother, family and home are strong

and, like the womb that she represents, her need for protective privacy is ever present.

Each Moon placement in the horoscope describes with remarkable

accuracy all these issues relating to the mother and child bond and issues of

nurturing and feeling safe in the world. The New Moon on January 15 is at 25 degrees of Capricorn, a sign known for its keen sense of responsibility and dedication to duty. The New Moon is the start of the next four week Lunar Cycle and the New Moon sign sets the tone of that Lunar Cycle.

Capricorn, a cardinal earth sign, focuses on the achievement of goals through disciplined and structured work and effort and this Capricorn New Moon offers us an opportunity to make realistic, practical plans for the year ahead.

Capricorn understands and loves structure, so use this time to organise yourself and make clear commitments to the goal, whatever it may be.

For many, there will be extra responsibilities to contend with: perhaps taking care of elderly parents, promotions at work that require extra work hours with more responsibility and authority. This is a serious sign, not given to frivolity and wasted effort. All activity is focused towards an ambitious though attainable goal, whether that goal is material (work, business, money), mental (attaining a degree) or spiritual (becoming enlightened).

NumerologyLife Path Numbers

Following on from last issue, I’ll continue through the ‘Life Path’ numbers with 3’s.Just to recap lightly, the ‘Life Path’ is the main path of experiential learning we all go through as we progress through our respective lives. It is indicated by the ‘Date of Birth’ and the addition of all of the numbers in the Date of Birth, back to a single number, like so: (2nd Feb 1970). 2 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 0 = 21 = 3. The ‘3’ life path can also be found in dates that add to, 12=3, 30=3, 39=12=3, 48=12=3, 57=12=3. From the Life Path number - i.e. 21, 39, 48, 57 - we get an idea of the main direction that their experiences will follow.

Life Path 3:

The number ‘3’ Life Path deals with the emotions and the mind through creativity, communication, analysing and understanding. 3 is the first number on the intellectual plane (3, 6, 9,), which intersects the line of Spirituality (3, 5, 7,) and then the line of Mental activity (3, 2, 1,), the planner and organiser. 3’s have a busy intersection, which enables them to work through their underlying lessons, the connection of the mental plane with the heart’s feeling plane, through understanding via analysing and communicating heartfelt emotional truths. An intellectual, analytical, mental plane number, 3’s can often get lost in their ability to over think things, and they must learn to relate to others.

On the surface 3’s are the joy bubbles, bringing happiness and pleasure to others around them, wanting to make every one feel joyful and happy, often loving the limelight as the life of the party. Loving the centre of attention can be seen as egoism but they are very good networkers, entertainers and promoters. With very fast minds they display a quick-witted sense of humour with an active very expressive ability to communicate.

At an early age they display a willingness to please, sometimes mentally seeming much older than their years. With their superior mind they often judge those with lesser capabilities who struggle to keep up. This behaviour is their biggest fault as they can be overly critical and nit pick others, especially those close to them in their private life.

This can make them hard to get along with and lead to unhappy love relationships. Their desire for perfectionism can see them get very frustrated when things don’t go their way. Their superior mental agility makes for good lawyers, accountants and business entrepreneurs.

Many 3’s can also be very creative with musical and great artistic abilities. Some make brilliant creative writers, while editing is a great use of their scrutinising energy. ‘Word Smithing’ and a love of

the spoken languages are evident as is their ability and willingness to communicate and understand others better.

Some 3’s like to use their analytical mental ability in Counselling, Psychiatry or Psychotherapy. They have a great need to ‘log in’ or ‘tap in’ as it were, to the deeper emotions of others and to help them analyse and transform them through verbal articulation and understanding. They often display an uncanny natural observation of human behaviour and knowledge of the human psyche. The right use of their intellect will reflect on their childhood upbringing as to whether they were treated as being intelligent or not. While they have an amazing imagination that can be channelled into great things, left on its own too long to over think, it can also run riot and become very destructive.

Because of this, the best life path for 3’s is one where their mind is fully occupied and focussed on what they are doing in the now.

Manic depression and other mental/emotional disorders can arise if left alone too long, isolation can be debilitating for them. These people function better working in-groups and social situations and need a regular and fairly active social-life to remain balanced. Because they readily tend to stow away emotions/feelings in their memory, having a regular personal therapist to talk things out will help them deal with their emotions and behaviour. With the tendency to over analyse themselves, it may be of great benefit to them long term, bringing comfort to their enquiring and self-critical minds. Accessing these deeper feelings isn’t easy for 3’s and they may need tools or therapies that enable this to help them overcome any past memories or fears. Having done this they are great advocates of those therapies and often find a passion in becoming therapists themselves. Learning about and opening up the inter-connection of the head and the heart is of great service to their life path as 3’s.
