Medications to Treat Pediatric Asthma
1. Long-term control- Taken daily over a long period of time.
Used to reduce inflammation, relax airway muscles, and improve symptoms and lung function-Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS)-e.g. Beclomethasone-Long-acting beta2-agonists (LABA)-e.g. Salmeterol-Leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA)-e.g. Cromolyn
2. Quick relief- Used in acute episodes-Generally short-acting beta2agonists-e.g. Albuterol
