BHOA Members,
At the last meeting of the homeowners association, Dick Schroeder, the highway
commissioner for York Township, had some great news for our York Township residents.
Dick said that he will have Waste Management clean the streets of the leaves, which has
been accomplished. He informed us about the removal of 20 Ash trees and one Maple due
to insect damage. Dick also mentioned that starting January 1st, electronic devices will not
be accepted by the garbage disposal companies. Consequently, York Township Highway
Department has a blue container located at 19W475 Roosevelt Road where you can drop
off your used electronic devices. We want to thank Dick Schroeder for attending our
meeting.
Since we are starting a new year, are you happy with the way this association is run? Do
you think we spend your $25 wisely? Do you want to see the association take on some new
projects? If you want change, it is up to you to join the nominating committee to nominate
new officers to your board. We need, at the very least, two people to step forward and
nominate people who can run this association. The way to do this is to e-mail me at
[email protected] and volunteer to be on the committee.
Last year this association had about 280 members out of the 840+ homes in this
subdivision. Every member receives 6 newsletters a year and every home receives 2
newsletters a year. We have a web site, www.mybhoa.com, where information that is
helpful to the area is posted. I believe that every homeowner in Buttefield East should be a
member - why can’t this happen? Please send in your membership form with a check for
$25 by the middle of February for a chance to win $50.00.
The web site is being under-utilized. I know that there is more news in this subdivision
than is printed in the newsletter and on the web. It is up to you to send the information in.
During the last year, I have called and e-mailed the schools, churches, etc. to have their
input, and I received very little in return. If you were to move into Butterfield East today,
what information would you need to know about? Well, you can send it to me and I will
put in on the web and in the newsletter.
Please read the letter from the DuPage County Division of Transportation. The fact that
they stated that there were 3,400 vehicles using Lloyd Avenue every day is reason enough
that the no thru traffic signs should be enforced here in Butterfield East.

Meeting Minutes
Butterfield Homeowners Association
December 8, 2011
Meeting called to order at 7:30 PM
Executive Board in attendance: Dennis Devitt, Gloria Atkins and Mary Ann Devitt
Others in attendance: Dick Schroeder, York Township Highway Commissioner and 23 members
Dick Schroeder was the guest speaker at the meeting. He advised us that we do have a traffic problem in Butterfield because of
thru traffic, as a recent traffic study showed, and he would see that a "No Thru Traffic" sign is posted at Finley and 22nd Street to
try to deter incoming non-resident traffic; however, because we do not live on private roads, not much can be done. We will
contact the Sheriff's office and ask that they patrol the streets ticketing speeders and those going through stop signs. Mr. Schroeder
also advised that he will have a one-time leaf pick-up for York Township (Butterfield East) at the end of the season.
There was no report from the Sheriff's Office as there was no representative.
The minutes were approved as presented in the November newsletter.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Mary Ann Devitt gave the report as follows:
Checking Account $2,358.37
Money Market 5,215.70
CD 7,707.00
CD 4,705.70
Total Assets $19,986.77
COMMITTEES
Membership - To date, we have 63 paid membership dues. To be eligible for the $50.00 membership drawing, dues must be paid
by February 16.
Welcome Wagon - Sandy and Jean have requested money be put in the proposed budget for Welcome Wagon. They also reported
that they have made 50 Welcome Wagon visits since April.
Landscaping - Tom reported that Christmas decorations were put up on the entrance signs; however, lights were not put up as the
electrical system needs to be worked on.
OLD BUSINESS - Dennis reported that we have received only 1 nomination for the Christmas Decorating Contest and to send
the nominations by December 15 to [email protected]. He will also continue to send out e-mail reminders about meetings
and current events.
The recommendation from the sign committee was that we to not spend money purchasing meeting date signs. The lack of
manpower to put up and take down the signs, vandalism and storing the signs were all factors in determining their feasibility.

We are reminded that the no parking ban is in effect from December 1 to April 15 between 2 AM and 6 AM and no parking at
anytime after 2 or more inches of snowfall.
Dennis informed us that, on average, 100 people a week access our website.
NEW BUSINESS - A motion was passed that we purchase a plant for Jackie Johns for up to $40.00. Jackie spent many years,
along with her partner Ed Baron and the Schroeders landscaping our three entrance signs and has been under the weather.
A homeowner has applied for a variance from the DuPage County Zoning Board requesting that a garage be built in front of his
home, contrary to the building code. A petition was presented at the meeting and was signed by those opposing the variance.
Volunteers for the 2012 Nominating Committee were requested from the floor, there were no volunteers. To have an effective and
working Homeowner's Association, we need people to come forward to help. If you are willing to help with this committee, or
better yet run for an office, please contact a board member. Remember, we all have a huge investment in our homes and
community. Get involved!
The next meeting will be on February 23 and we will have another guest speaker. If you have suggestions for a guest speaker,
please let us know.
The dinner raffle to Chili's was won by Tom Callis.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Gloria Atkins
Recording Secretary

Letter from DuPage County Division of Transporation
November 1, 2011
Mr. Dick Schroeder
Highway Commissioner
York Township Highway Department
19W475 Roosevelt Road
Lombard, IL 60148
Re: Traffic Study
Glen Avenue/Glen Park Road
22nd
Street to Lloyd Avenue
Dear Mr. Schroeder:
This is in response to your request of October 12, 2011 that the DuPage County Division of Transportation conduct a traffic study
to determine if a traffic control device/devices should be installed along the above referenced section of Glen Avenue/Glen Park
Road to minimize cut through traffic and control speeding. Concerns have been expressed by a few residents living along Glen
Avenue/Glen Park Road that there is a substantial volume of cut through traffic and that traffic travels at an excessive rate of
speed along the road.
Traffic counts were made on both Lloyd Avenue and Glen Park Road between 22nd
Street and the intersection of Glen Ave. and
Lloyd Avenue. The average daily traffic on Lloyd Avenue was approximately 3,400 vehicles per day whereas the average daily
traffic on Glen Park Road was only 850 vehicles per day. We also placed devices to measure the speed of vehicles traveling
along Glen Park Road and determined the average speed of traffic to be 25.6 mph with an 85th
percentile speed of 30.1 mph.
There is nearly four times the volume of traffic on Lloyd Avenue versus Glen Park Road which does not suggest a significant
volume of cut through traffic on Glen Park Road. In addition the speed of traffic on Glen Park Road is close to the posted 25
mph speed limit which does not suggest there is a need to employ measures to slow the speed of traffic.
Traffic patterns generally remain relatively stable unless there is either significant development of change in land use in an area.
For this reason we believe the finding of this study would be valid for a minimum of three years unless there is a significant
increase in development or change in land use in the area.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding this information.
Very truly yours,

“About 45 minutes ago, my door bell rang. It was the Fountain of Life Church. I was told that 5 teams were on
their way to my house to rake the leaves. I looked out the window a short time later, and there were more than 20
people here. They worked hard and just finished up. I want to say that we are very lucky to have such a
wonderful church in our community. They are always willing to help out if we need it. Thank you, FOLC. I
appreciate your hard work.”

From the ASPCA “Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3
million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). These are evenly divided between those animals
relinquished by owners and those picked up by animal control. These are national estimates; the percentage of euthanasia may
vary from state to state.”
Have you checked out the animals up for adoption at DuPage County Animal Control? Why not go on line and see the dogs,
adult cats, kittens, rabbits, and guinea pigs all up for adoption.
