This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. Because of her Immaculate Conception, she did not die and then get

buried in a grave. Instead, her glorified body was assumed into heaven.

We are also on a destination that will someday, God willing, lead us to heaven. A gift she already attained. Seeing her in heaven

helps us to long for this as well. Since we know Christ’s body was resurrected, and the Blessed Mother was assumed into heaven it

gives us great hope that one day we will also reach heaven and be united with them. Death is not the end but as we see in Mary, we

will someday see our true destiny.

AUGUST 16 , 2020 Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Mary, Queen Assumed into Heaven, I rejoice that after years of heroic martyrdom on earth, you have at last been taken to the throne prepared

for you in heaven by the Holy Trinity.

Lift my heart with you in the glory of your Assumption above the dreadful touch of sin and impurity. Teach me how small earth

becomes when viewed from heaven. Make me realize that death is the triumphant gate through which I shall pass to your Son, and that someday

my body shall rejoin my soul in the unending bliss of heaven.

From this earth, over which I tread as a pilgrim, I look to you for help. I ask for this favor: (Mention your request).

When my hour of death has come, lead me safely to the presence of Jesus to enjoy the vision of my God for all eternity together with you.

Amen.

1 | REST IN PEACE. A longtime St. Anthony parishioner, Bill Gerard, passed from this life. His mass of Christian burial was on August 7th at St. Anthony. Fr.Len Wenke presided and Msgr. Lane was there to concelebrate the funeral Mass.

2 | CONGRATULATIONS. On the 1st of August the Sacrament of Marriage was Celebrated for Mr. and Mrs. Matt and Skylar (Chew) Weisenborn. Matt and Skylar, who are both parishioners of St. Cecilia, were matched up by Msgr. Lane. Because of that, Msgr. Lane was obviously chosen to preside at their wedding.

3 | ON VACATION. Summer is a time when most people schedule their vacation time. This year is a bit different because of the COVID. I am glad people are still taking advantage to get away on vacation despite the things. Pictured here is Helen Davis of SMSJ enjoying her family vacation in Florida.

4 | 40 HOURS DEVOTION. I really want to encourage people to sign up to take time and pray during our 40 Hour Devotion. It will be a little different this year but it will give you time to spend with Our Lord. Opening Mass will be at St. Cecilia 9:00 AM daily Mass on Fri., Sept. 11, followed by continuous adoration until Sun., Sept. 13 at the 10:00 AM Mass, when we will close. If you have any questions about sign ups, you can call Jeff Icsman at 513-321-3089 or email [email protected]. Sign up sheets are posted on the parish website. https://stceciliacincinnati.org/

New Approach to Religious Education and Sacramental PreparationThis year our pastoral region will be embarking on a journey to embrace a new approach to religious education and faith formation for both children and parents. This new approach is titled Family of Faith. Family of Faith will be the ordinary means of religious education for ALL children and parents in each parish of our Eastside Pastoral Region. It is a complete replacement for PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) and is the new avenue in which all children in the region, regardless of their parish or if they attend Catholic grade school or not, will prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation

The philosophy of Family of Faith is rooted in the empowerment and equipping of parents to serve as the primary catechists of their children. This is completed by having one live Sunday session per month held at St. Cecilia Parish on the second Sunday of the month where the children are in the classrooms with a parish catechist, and the parents are with our parish leadership team. During the parent lesson, parents are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to share the Catholic faith with their families using the activities and lessons found in the parent guide. The goal is to ignite a flame of love for God in the domestic Church, the family.

THE DETAILS:• Session 1 on Sun., Sept. 13, 2020 from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM• Sessions on the second Sunday of each month from Sept.–May• We encourage everyone to go to the 10 AM Mass, followed by Donut Sunday at 11:15 AM. Children and parents then split for their

respected sessions from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM• A parent guide is given to each family as well as a student activity book for each child• We will have a Spanish track available for Spanish-speaking families• This program is 100% FREE

To register for Family of Faith, please go to our www.eastsidefaith.org/fof and fill out the online registration form. If your child is receiving a sacrament, you must provide a copy of their baptismal certificate.

If you are interested in teaching for our Family of Faith program, please contact Cody Egner, [email protected] or 513-871-5757, ext. 215. VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children training is required by time of first class. This is an amazing opportunity to share your faith with the children of our parish. This great opportunity would require only a monthly commitment to teach one of the classes on Sunday mornings. We are in need of the following:

• 2 more people for the babysitting section (1-2 year olds), two Preschool catechists (3-4 year olds), one 3rd/4th Grade Catechist, and one 5th/6th Grade catechist.

The first class is on September 13 and meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month from September-May from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

FALL 2020 FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITIESCatholicism 101: An Introduction to CatholicismOur regional RCIA program, Catholicism 101, is accepting new inquirers of the faith! If you have been thinking about becom-ing Catholic, or know someone that has, please register for this program! Catholicism 101 is a dynamic approach that studies the fundamental teachings of the Catholic faith. We invite ALL of you to register for this amazing program. This is the perfect program for a first-time inquirer of the faith as well as for a seasoned Catholic who simply wishes to brush up on Church teaching. We guarantee that everyone will learn something new about Christ, His Church, and her teachings. Our first class is on Wednesday September 9 at 7 PM in the St. Cecilia Commons.

For all questions and to register, please contact our Regional Director of Religious Education, Cody Egner, at [email protected] or 513-871-5757, ext. 215.

Fall Bible Study: Peter – Cornerstone of CatholicismA 10-week study featuring Dr. Tim Gray | Cost: $25

• Tuesdays from 12:30-2:00PM at St. Margaret-St. John School (St. Francis Room)

• Mondays from 7-8:30PM at St. Cecilia School (Commons)

The character of St. Peter is both inspiring and confounding to many of us. How could a stubborn and impulsive fisherman become the “rock” upon which Jesus would build his Church? Bringing together biblical accounts, historical evidence, Church teaching, classical art, and personal insights, Dr. Tim Gray gives a fresh perspective on Simon Peter that is immediately informative and relevant to our lives. After all, if Jesus could bring out the very best in someone like Peter, then there is hope for the rest of us.

To register, visit the regional website, www.eastsidefaith.org/ peter and fill out the digital registration form at the bottom of the page. Direct all questions to our DRE, Cody Egner.

Named for Blessed Fra Angelico, patron saint of Artists, the Guild’s mission is to enrich the faith and work of Artists; to nurture a taste for Goodness, a longing for Truth, and a love of Beauty; to deepen the Artist’s relationship with the Creator; to create networks of Artists in friendships, collaborations and mentorships.

Poets, Painters, Printmakers, Calligraphers, Dancers, Sil-versmiths, Sculptors, Musicians, Art Historians, Actors, Archi-tects, Designers, Writers, Fiber Artists, Film Makers…Artists, Art Patrons and Lovers of Beauty!

The Angelico Catholic Arts Guild is a new lay Catholic initiative, part of The Angelico Project, evangelizing through the Good, the True and the Beautiful.

We are planning future workshops, a speaker series, art shows, are developing a branch of the Guild to focus on Liturgical arts, and expect to be a lively Catholic community of creatives. Knowing how effective the arts are in communicating Truth, our goal is to help artists achieve excellence in their craft- excellence in concept, technique, and expression - so that Catholic art again is work that inspires and moves the heart and mind toward God.

The Angelico Catholic Arts Guild is building a Directory of Catholic Artists and will list artists by parish and discipline, so that patrons and priests can find the artist they need as the need arises.

Find out more at our website https://angelicoproject.org/arts-guild/

My name is Joe Grote and I am the new Finance/Operations Manager for the East-side Pastoral Region. I have been married to my wife, Ann, for over 41 years. We have four children and five grandchildren. I am originally from the westside of Cincinnati, however, Ann and I moved to Evendale six years ago.

I am a graduate of the university of Cincinnati. I earned my Masters in Lay Pastoral Ministry at the Athenaeum of Cincinnati in 2019. Currently, I am a member of the deacons in training class and hope to be ordained in 2022. I am a voracious reader (books on our Catholic faith, revolutionary war period and historical biographies). If you have a book to recommend, let me know.

Our Catholic faith is my greatest passion. Let’s celebrate our faith with JOY! I look forward to meeting all of you in the weeks and months to come.

Surviving Divorce: Hope & Healing for the Catholic FamilyA FREE 12-week series featuring Rose Sweet Tuesdays from 7 PM – 8:30 PM at St. Cecilia School (facilitated by Stephanie Ramsey)

Marriage is meant to last a lifetime. Most engaged couples approach their wedding days fully believing and intending this. Sadly, however, too many hearts and homes end up experienc-ing the pain of divorce. This often brings about unexpected and unimaginable heartache, questions, and challenges. Is healing possible? Yes! That’s the good news this program offers.

Surviving Divorce was created to bring hope and healing to those who have experienced the pain and loneliness of a broken marriage. It is for the newly separated and divorced and those still struggling with issues many years later. It will help them answer their questions, restore hope, and begin authentic healing.

This program will help you work through the emotional upheaval of separation and divorce, find personal healing and hope, discover a deeper understanding of God’s love for you, gain wisdom and comfort from experts and others who share your experiences and navigate new concerns like custody, court hearings, and finances.

To register, visit the regional website, www.eastsidefaith.org/surviving-divorce and fill out the digital registration form at the bottom of the page. The fall session begins Tuesday, Sep-tember 8, 7-8:30 p.m. Direct all questions to Stephanie Ramsey, [email protected]
