Through first-hand experience and guidance from managers, co-workers, and senior examiners, you’ll quickly learn the concepts and practices behind bank supervision.

During your first 6 - 8 months, you’ll work alongside a talented team of OCC employees performing bank examinations, traveling to banks, and gaining valuable experience learning about bank supervision.

› Assist with national bank and federal thrift examinations by gathering, organizing, and analyzing bank data› Prepare written reports, including conclusions and recommendations for bank executives and senior OCC bank examiners› Report your findings, conclusions, and recommendations to bank executives and senior examiners› Collaborate with other OCC professionals and experts in the fields of economics, supervision policy, and banking law› Travel to banks assigned to your local field office (15 to 95 percent of your time)

How to Qualify

Successful applicants for Assistant National Bank Examiner positions can use their education, work experience, OR a combination of the two to qualify.

EducationA bachelor’s degree with major study in:

› Accounting› Banking› Business Administration› Commercial or banking law› Economics› Finance› Marketing› Other closely related fields

Combination of Experience and Education› Equivalent combinations of education and experience› A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate

obtained through written examination in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia

Work Experience At least three years of qualifying work experience leading to thorough understanding of and experience in:

› Debits and credits› Balance sheets and operating statements › The internal operations of a financial institution › Reviewing, analyzing, and recommending or

approving loan applications or investments› Performing accounting or auditing work › Reviewing and evaluating the actions involving the

properties or monies of others held in trust by a financial institution

Knowledge and Skills Assessments
