    Ed. 203 Foundation of Education

Assignment no. 1: What do you understand by:

    PhilosophyEducation

    Answer:

    1. Philosophy- As defined philosophy literally, the love of, including the search

after, wisdom; in actual usage, the knowledge of phenomena as explained by,

and resolved into, causes and reasons, powers and laws.

For me, philosophy is an important factor of learning. Because the desire tounderstand something was our nature as human beings, we are born to thinkand ask questions like why and how.

We are inquisitive if nothing else, and it is one of the most commendabletraits of human beings. We like to know what is going on and why. After we

have fed ourselves and put a roof over our heads, and attended to other basic

needs, the question arises what we are to do with our time. Alone and

unoccupied we will find ourselves thinking. Nowadays, philosophy is

something that is an opulence, since most of our time is taken up with things

far from the philosophic bent. We tend to rush into things and think later

finding out too late that philosophically if we only stopped and think more

thoroughly we may benefit to a more favorable results to our actions.

    2. Education- As define by Wikipedia Education in its broadest, general sense isthe means through which the aims and habits of a group of people lives onfrom one generation to the next.

Different people have different ways in which they define education. Somebelieve that education can only be learned in schools, colleges anduniversities. It is in those places were we may learn, and gain our certificatesthat prove we have learned what we have learned. But can education really betaught in such places or it is something we do everyday?

Education covers a broad spectrum. Others may believe that education issimply life, and that we must learn every aspect of life as we grow. There aresome people who have never received a full-time education in any sort ofschool at all, but have learned the 'family way', some cases they mayhave entered into a trade that has been passed down from one generation ofthe family to the next. Therefore we can also define education by saying that itis learned thru experience. For example a child who grew up in the streetlearns how to survive and cope with what that life has taught him. A child whogrows up from a rich family may not survive in the same environment becausehis life never taught him how to survive without money and security.
