Just a short d istance rom Belast City centre lies QueensUniversity Belast, host to the Conerence. QueensUniversity Belasts proud academic tradition stretchesback over 160 years rom its establishment by QueenVictoria in 1845 as one o the three Queens Colleges inIreland. It received its R oyal Charter rom King Edward VIIin 1908, becoming an independent University in its ownright. Today, the University combines an internationalreputation or excellence in research and education,with a student-centred ethos and a leadership role in thecommunity. The UKs Entrepreneurial University o the Year2009, awarded by Times Higher Education, Queens is amagnet or inward investment, an international centre oacademic excellence.
In keeping with Queens University Belasts continuedexcellence in research, the Institute o Agri-Food and LandUse was ounded in 2005. The Institute is ast becoming acentre o excellence and is recognised on a global basis orhigh quality research. Within this Institute, The Centre or
ASsured, SaE and Traceable Food (ASSET) was launchedin January 2009. In continuing this role as a base or world-class academic and scientifc research, ASSET and QueensUniversity Belast are delighted to host this importantConerence during March 21-24 2011.

The Food Integrity and Traceability Conerence will be heldat Queens University Belast rom Monday 21 March to

Registration and a Welcome Party will be held on theevening o Monday 21 March within the University.

Belast is easily reached rom either Belast InternationalAirport or the George Best Belast City Airport by bus.Buses rom the Belast International Airport run requentlywith an interval o approximately 15 minutes andtravel time to Belast City Centre (Europa Bus Station) i sapproximately 30 to 40 minutes. Identiying the greatest current and emerging threats tothe integrity o the agri-ood supply;
Delivering new analytical means o veriying theintegrity o the agri-ood supply chain.
Contributions on the ollowing specifc topics are also
encouraged: Advances in monitoring schemes or eed and ood
contamination identifcation;
Advances in methods/processes or improving eed andood traceability;
Emerging biotoxins: environmental contaminants,processing contaminants, microbiological threats whichmay pose new challenges or supply chain integrity;
Fingerprinting-based approaches or early riskidentifcation;
On-site analysis e.g. on arms, slaughterhouses,eedmills, processing plants;
The issues that current regulations, or lack thereo, posein delivering total ood integrity;
Laboratory accreditation and method validation;
Key fndings rom National, EU and International oodsaety research projects;
The potential roles o nanomaterials (positive andnegative) in ood saety;
Innovations in combating ood raud.

The number o ood scareshas grown enormously over thepast decade; imported oods ound to contain dangerouscontaminants such as drugs, dyes and bacterial toxins arenow reported requently. As demands rom consumers andregulators grow, the need to develop technologies to detectcontaminants in ood has increased.
This Conerence, the frst on this subject at Queens UniversityBelast, will consist o plenary lectures, presented by high
calibre invited speakers, contributed papers (10 or 20 minutecommunications or posters), and a technical exhibition oscientifc instruments and related products.
The City o Belast is a n emerging cultural, historical,economic and touristic centre. The Northern Irish riendlinessand hospitality is well known to everyone who has been inthe region beore. It would be a great pleasure to welcomeyou to our Conerence in Belast!
