ASSESSMENT TASK NOTIFICATION Year group: 12 Physics Task title: Skills Task- 2015 Date of task: Term 4: week 5 (during double period as per time table) Task No: 4 Value of Task: 25% Date of issuing task: Term 4: week 3 Knowledge & Understanding – 25%; SKILLS – 15% and Communication – 10% Context: The task will assess student’s ability to plan and perform a first-hand investigation, complete a scientific report and answer the relevant questions based on stage 6 topic – Space Syllabus outcomes to be assessed: H2.analyses the ways in which models, theories and laws in physics have been tested and validated H11 justifies the appropriateness of a particular investigation plan H12.evaluates ways in which accuracy and reliability could be improved in investigations H13 uses terminology and reporting styles appropriately and successfully to communicate information and understanding H14 assesses the validity of conclusions from gathered data and information H15.explains why an investigation is best undertaken individually or by a team Assessment criteria: The assessment will be based on the outcomes listed above outlined in the task description Task Description: The task will assess student’s ability to plan and perform a first-hand investigation, complete a scientific report and answer the relevant questions as stated in the outcomes above, based on stage 6 topic- Space Task Description: First Hand Investigation Task and a Scientific Report The assessment task consists of TWO components: PART A: Plan and Perform a first-hand investigation in a group of two or three students to be determined on the day of the task. State the theories and laws governing the investigation PART B: Complete a scientific report draws valid conclusion and propose improvements in the investigation. Answer the relevant questions. Assess the risks in the investigation. Tidy up the work station at the end of the task. Time allowed: 70 minutes Submission requirements:

As part of your preparation you should revise all work related to the topic: SpaceEach student should bring his/her own writing material, pencil, ruler, calculator and eraser. No borrowing will be permitted.Policy requirement:A mark of zero (0) will be given for non-submission or completion of task unless appropriate medical certification is required.A mark of zero (0) will be given for plagiarised workPost Task: Marked tasks will be handed back with the marking criteria and discussed by the classroom teachers. Any clarification will need to be done during that lesson only. No further discussion will be entertained.Board of Studies HSC Examination rules will apply.
