INTRODUCTION

Clark-Eveleigh Consulting (CEC) of Thunder Bay, Ontario was contracted by Aubrey Eveleigh to complete mechanical trenching and trench-mapping on the Kabaigon Lake Property. The purpose of the program was: 1) to determine the source of the previously outlined bedrock geophysical conductors on the property and 2) to assess the potential of the property to host economical amounts of base metal and gold mineralization. The program was carried out from October 11, 1995 to October 22, 1995. The Kabaigon Lake Property lies within the Shebandowan Greenstone Belt.

LOCATION AND ACCESS

The Kabaigon Lake Property is located approximately 80 kilometres west - northwest of Thunder Bay in the Thunder Bay Mining Division. The property is accessed via logging roads that depart northerly from Highway 11 approximately 95 highway-kilometres west of Thunder Bay (figure l).

CLAIMS

The Kabaigon Lake Property consists of claim TB 1209544 composed o f 15 units. The claim is covered by the Drift Lake Area - G-713 and the Kashabowie Lake Area - G-2714 claim maps(figure 2).

PREVIOUS EXPLORATION

The review of the assessment data indicates a lack of previous exploration in the area of the present claim. The area is covered by the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines geophysical airborne survey and has been included in the mapping by Morin (1973) and preliminary work by Osmani (1991)when he mapped the Moss Township Area.

Industry exploration includes:

1980: Hudson Bay Exploration Company Ltd. completed a ground electromagnetic survey over the present claim block.

1983: Alfred Lambert completed a ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey over the present claim block.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY

The Kabaigon Lake Property is underlain by Archean rocks of the Shebandowan Greenstone Belt. The Shebandowan Belt is dominated by metavolcanic rocks along with minor metasedimentary rocks. These supracrustal rocks are intruded by felsic and ultramafic intrusions. The late Proterozoic diabase dikes intrude the rocks of the Shebandowan Greenstone Belt.

The metavolcanics are dominantly mafic to intermediate flows and tuffs with minor felsic flows and pyroclastic units. The mafic flow units are characteristically pillowed. The metasedimentary rocks are dominated by fine grained to coarse grained clastic sedimemts which include: argillite, greywacke and conglomerate. Chemically precipitated chert horizons are likely associated with pauses in volcanism.

The felsic intrusive rocks include: dikes, plugs and stocks. The ultramafic intrusive rocks occur mainly as dikes\sills but locally resemble flow rocks.

The metamorphic grade varies from upper greenschist facies to lower amphibolite facies.

The facing direction of the area indicates younging to the north. The area is structurally complex. Sub parallel thrust faults have caused stacking and overlapping of various units.

REGIONAL MINERALIZATION

The Shebandowan Lake Greenstone Belt is known to host economic deposits of copper-nickel-and platinum group elements, copper-gold and gold. Numerous sub-economic occurrences of copper-zinc, copper- nickel and gold are prevalent within the belt.

The largest producer is the Shebandowan Copper-Nickel Mine operated by INCO. The copper-nickel sulfide mineralization is hosted within an ultramafic intrusive that has been strongly effected by belt- scale faults.

The Vanguard Occurrence is located within the same group of rocks as the Kabaigon Lake Property. The Vangaurd is a zinc-copper rich horizon that has been truncated by various regional fault structures.

Page 7: ASSESSMENT RPT TRENCHING & MAPPING …...Clark-Eveleigh Consulting (CEC) of Thunder Bay, Ontario was contracted by Aubrey Eveleigh to complete mechanical trenching and trench-mapping

PROPERTY GEOLOGY

The property is predominantly underlain by mafic and felsic metavolcanic rocks and minor metasedimentary rocks intruded by bodies of gabbro. A number of sulphide occurrences have been noted within the felsic volcanic rocks.

The general strike of the various units on the property is east- west with a vertical dip.

TRENCHING AND MAPPING PROGRAM

The trenching - geological mapping program began on October 11, 1995 and was completed by October 22, 1995. Pierre Gagne Contracting of Thunder Bay, Ontario completed twenty hours of backhoe work. Five areas were stripped of overburden. Four of these five trenches were then washed and mapped and nine grab samples were collected. Field mapping of the trench geology was done at a scale of 1:500. Due to cold weather and man-power constraints, one trench was not washed and mapped and channel samples that were planned and laid-out in the washed trenches were not cut and collected.

CEC geologist Doug McKay supervised the backhoe stripping and mapped the washed trenches (figure 3). CEC employees Pat Duggan and Mike Veltri hydraulically washed the trenches. Noranda Exploration collected nine grab samples from the washed trenches (figure 4).

Page 8: ASSESSMENT RPT TRENCHING & MAPPING …...Clark-Eveleigh Consulting (CEC) of Thunder Bay, Ontario was contracted by Aubrey Eveleigh to complete mechanical trenching and trench-mapping

CONCLUSIONS

Lithologies mapped in the trenches correspond to rock types outlined by previous grid mapping.

The source of the geophysical conductor tested by Trench KLT-1 is a strongly foliated 7 sheared intermediate lapilli tuff containing 2 to 3% pyrite and clasts of chert and pyrite. This unit is at the contact between intermediate pyroclastic rocks to the south and gabbro to the north.

The source of the geophysical conductor tested by Trench KLT-2 is a graphitic argillaceous metasedimentary rock containing 5 % pyrite.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Trench KLT-3 should be washed and mapped. All the trenches should be channel sampled. Positive channel sampling results could redefine geophysical conductors as geophysical-geochemical targets for drilling.
