7Next we ask about systems. This includes both management and operating systems.Efficient operating systems are vital. Having the right tools and processes that one needs to do their job is one of the basic supports that are important for employees to be loyal. We often find that in a traditional organization there is one group of people responsible for managing and leading, one for setting strategy, one for getting and retaining customers and one for managing systems. We know that those groups do not often do a very good job of communicating; rather they work in their own silos. It is the space between the silos that go unmanaged and is that same space where most customers become dissatisfied. Most businesses manage vertically although customers work with them horizontally. We work with our customers to align resources with the strategic plan. Many of our customers, unfortunately, work in ways that support those silos with short term thinking and reinforcing competition with a winner and loser mentality. We also see more often that most do not really know what they need to do to help their company achieve its goals because they simply do not know what connections there are between their work and the companys mission. They then get into a rut, leave their best at home rather than bringing it to work. They have essentially quit although continue to show up and collect a paycheck. Creative thinking is where innovation and efficiencies lie.
