Technical Information
The cam switches included in this list, feature industrial switching equipment with a wide range of applications. The switches have been designed mainly for use in A.C. Circuits. Using only high quality materials and precise manufacturing techniques, a switch life of 1 to 5 Million operations has been achieved.
Construction and Mode of Operation
In accordance with the switching program required, the cam switch consist of one ore morestages and latching mechanism. They are constructed on the basis of the proven building-blockprinciple. The maximum number of stages allowable is twelve. If the switching program demandsmore than twelve stages, geared couplings (Z42 or Z46) can be used with two or three switchcolumns below one another.
Stage Moldings
The stage moldings are made of leakage resistant synthetic plastic material and are fitted withfor fixed contact terminals. For every two contact terminals a spring loaded contact bridge is provided so that double contact breaking is achieved per pole. Contact terminals and contactbridges are fitted with hard silver clad contacts.
Control of the contact bridges is accomplished by means of cams located centrally in the stages. When the switch handle is rotated the shaft through the cam operates a plunger and roller to open the contact. The contact is closed by spring tension. The stages are screwed tothe latching mechanism by two or four bolts and thus combined to a single unit. The shaft is carefully located in plastic bearings on the latching mechanism and the end plate.
The latching mechanism contains the latching wheel and the spring loaded latching levers. The snap action switching is achieved with the constructional design of the latchingmechanism.
The combination of steel and bakelite or steel and plastic gives a non wearing operatingmechanism and a maintenance free switching unit. Cam switches satisfy the most exactingrequirements since, as a result of double contact breaking of the contact units and other constructional features, high friction loadings are eliminated. The most difficult switching programs can be solved. Flexible connections are completely eliminated in this equipment.
Page 4
Switching AnglesSwitching Angles of 22.5, 30, 45, 60 and 90 deg have been selected to provide the mostconvenient and economical arrangement. Therefore up to 16 switching positions are standard. For special switches the desired switching angle will as far as possible, be adhered to. Howeverwe reserve the right to change the switching angle for technical reasons.(Overlapping, arc formation, etc.) .
Maintenance
Under normal working conditions no maintenance to any parts of ASN Switches is necessary.
Working Temperature
With reference to the before mentioned Regulations and Standards. ASN switches have been designed for an ambient temperature of up to 40 deg C. Plastic parts used will withstand constant temperatures of up to 70 deg C.
