1. Scope

5. Material and Manufacture

5.1 Material:

5.1.1 As specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the product furnished shall be produced fromCopper Alloy UNS No. C70600, C71500, C74500,C75200, C75700, C76400, C77000, or C79200.

6. Chemical Composition

6.1 The product material composition shall conformto the requirements prescribed in Table 1 for the CopperAlloy UNS No. designation specified in the contractor purchase order.

6.1.1 These specification limits do not precludethe presence of other elements. Limits may be estab-lished and analysis required for unnamed elements byagreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.

6.2 For copper alloys in which zinc is specified asthe remainder, zinc may be taken as the differencebetween the sum of results for all elements determinedand 100%.

6.3When all elements listed in Table 1 for a specifiedalloy are determined, the sum of results shall be 99.5%minimum.

7. Temper

7.1 Tempers available under this specification andas defined in Practice B 601 are: O60, OS035, OS070,H01, and H04.

NOTE 3 — The purchaser should confer with the manufacturer orsupplier concerning the availability of a specific form and temper.

8. Grain Size Requirements

8.1 Grain Size:

8.1.1 Product in the OS temper shall conform tothe requirement prescribed in Table 2 for the specifiedcopper alloy and temper.

8.1.2 Grain size shall be the basis for acceptanceor rejection for OS temper product produced fromCopper Alloy UNS Nos. C74500, C75200, C75700,C76400, C77000, and C79200.

9. Mechanical Properties Requirements

9.1 Tensile Requirement:

9.1.1 Copper-Nickel-Zinc Alloys UNS Nos.C74500, C75200, C75700, C76400, C77000, andC79200, in tempers H01 and H04 shall conform tothe requirement prescribed in Table 3 for the specifiedshape and size and the tensile strength shall be thebasis of acceptance or rejection for product in thesetempers.

9.1.2 Copper-Nickel Alloys UNS Nos. C70600and C71500 in tempers H01, H04, and O60 shall

12. Number of Tests and Retests

12.1 Tests:

12.1.1 Chemical Analysis:

12.1.1.1 Chemical composition shall be deter-mined as the per element mean of results from at leasttwo replicate determinations of the sample(s) and theresults of each replication shall conform to composi-tional requirements.

12.1.2 Other Tests:

12.1.2.1Grain size and tensile properties shallbe determined from specimens prepared from each oftwo sample pieces selected for tests and each specimenshall conform to test requirement(s).

12.2 Retests:

12.2.1 When requested by the manufacturer orsupplier, a retest may be permitted when test resultsobtained by the purchaser fail to conform with theproduct specification requirements(s).

12.2.2Retesting shall be as directed in the productspecification for the initial test except for the numberof test specimens which shall be twice that normallyrequired for the test. Test results for all specimensshall conform to the product specification requirement(s)in retest and failure to comply shall be cause for lotrejection.

13. Test Methods

13.1 The test method(s) used for quality control orproduction control, or both, for the determination ofconformance with product property requirements arediscretionary.

13.1.1 The test method(s) used to obtain data forthe preparation of certification or test report, or both,shall be made available to the purchaser on request.

13.2 Chemical Analysis:

13.2.1Chemical composition shall be determined,in case of disagreement, as follows:

14. Rejection and Rehearing

14.1 Rejection:

14.1.1Product that fails to conform to the require-ments of the product specification may be rejected.

14.1.2Rejection shall be reported to the manufac-turer or supplier, promptly and in writing.

14.1.3 In case of disagreement or dissatisfactionwith the results of the test upon which rejection wasbased, the manufacturer or supplier may take claim fora rehearing.

14.2 Rehearing:

14.2.1As a result of product rejection, the manufac-turer or supplier may make claim to the purchaser forretest to be conducted by the manufacturer or supplierand the purchaser. Samples of the rejected product shallbe taken in accordance with the product specificationand tested by both parties as directed in the productspecification, or, alternatively, upon agreement by bothparties, an independent laboratory may be selected forthe tests using the test methods prescribed in the productspecification.
