Case 2069Postweld Heat Treatment of Tube-to-TubesheetWeldsSection VIII, Division 1

Inquiry: Under what conditions may tube-to-tube-sheet welds between materials of P-1, Group Nos. 1,2, and 3, be exempted from the postweld heat treatrequirement of UCS-56?

Reply: It is the opinion of the Committee that tube-to-tubesheet welds in P-1, Group Nos. 1, 2, and 3materials may be exempted from the postweld heattreatment, rules, or UCS-56 under the following limita-tions.

(a) The weld shall not exceed1⁄2 in. depth for groovewelds or 1⁄2 in. throat for fillet welds.

(b) The tube diameter shall not exceed 2 in.(c) A preheat of 200°F shall be applied when the

carbon content of the tubesheet exceeds 0.22%.(d) The Case number shall be shown on the Data

Report.
