INTRODUCTION TO 220KV GSS

The supply of electric power of the 220 KV GSS is done by Anta station through 220 KV and 220 KV Dausa line.

There are 8 outgoing feeder 0f 132 kV, 10 outgoing feeder of 33kV & 6 outgoing feeder of 11kV.

LIGHTNING ARRESTER Lightening arrestors are the

instrument that are used in the incoming feeders so that to prevent the high voltage entering the main station. This high voltage is very dangerous to the instruments used in the substation. Even the instruments are very costly, so to prevent any damage lightening arrestors are used.

The lightening arrestors are grounded to the earth so that it can pull the lightening to the ground. The lightening arrestor works with an angle of 30° to 45° making a cone.

TRANSFORMER

AUTO TRANSFORMER

This is used for step down the voltage from 220KV to 132KV

CURRENT TRANSFORMER

The CT is used for two purpose-

For measurement of electric current.

For metering & protection

ISOLATOR

The use of isolator is to protect the transformer and the other instrument in the line. The isolator isolates the extra voltage to the ground and thus any extra voltage cannot enter the line. Thus an isolator is used after the bus also for protection

CIRCUIT BREAKER

A circuit breaker is a switching and current interrupting device in a switchgear. The CB serves two basic purpose-

Switching during normal operating condition for purpose of operation &maintenance.

Switching during abnormal conditions such as short circuit &interrupting the fault current.

There are different types of CB- Bulk oil circuit bteaker Air blast circuit breaker SF6 circuit breaker Minimum oil circuit breaker Vacuums circuit breaker

INSULATOR

A device for electrical insulation and mechanical connection of parts of electrical installation, that are at different electrical potential.

Porcelain and glass are most frequently used to manufacture insulators.

There are different type of insulator-

Pin type insulator Suspension type insulator Shackle insulator Strain insulator

BUS BARA conductor line to which several in coming feeders are connected & the line is taken to transformer for step down the voltage.
