Principal What a wonderful term we have had. It is hard to believe that the term is over but it is! I would like to thank our children and teachers for the work they have put in this year. You set high standards for yourselves and others and the reputation of this school continues to be more and more positive as a result. The Family and Friends group, as always have provided a great start by funding the STOMP Night and running a range of activities to gather much needed funds to enhance the school programs and resources.

Last week we had our School Council AGM and first meeting with the 2019 members. Please feel free to talk to any of our school council team. Their job is to assist in the decision making of the school as your representatives.

I am taking leave next term. In my absence Brendan Thompson will be Acting Principal, Barry Parkinson will step into the Assistant Principal role and Sam George will come out of the classroom and take on Barry’s Lead Teacher role. Caitlyn Pappin and Vanessa Smith will share the classroom teaching for Grade 3G. Miss George will be present at school every day and will plan with Vanessa and Caitlyn to ensure that the children’s experience is seamless and supported. I thank you all in anticipation of your support for Brendan and the Leadership Team. You are in excellent hands. Unfortunately the music teacher we hired at the start of the year has not been able to secure his permission to teach. We have readvertised the position twice and not been successful in appointing a suitable applicant. We are adamant that if we are going to run a program it is going to be a quality one taught by a suitably qualified teacher. Next term we will be offering ICT for grades 3, 4 and 5 while we continue to source staffing for the music program. Next term we start our camps and excursions program. The school does not get money from the Government to pay for either of these activities. They are funded on a user pays basis. As a school we do all we can to keep the cost down including bartering for better deals and at times seeking sponsorship. The school makes no profit from camps and excursions. Unfortunately the cost of transport is very expensive and venue charges are always increasing. Please be assured that we do everything we can to get the best price as we recognise the financial strain that many families are under. I hope you have a wonderful term break. Thank you for your support during the first term of the year and enjoy next term.

Lancefield Rd Issue: There have been several reports of near misses as parents/carers are doing u turns at the gates to the staff park on Lancefield Rd. The road butts up to the footpath with no gutter or nature strip and cars often end up crossing onto the footpath. This is a tragedy waiting to happen. Please avoid these turns. Despite the speed restrictions many vehicles including large trucks speed along this strip and are not prepared for vehicles doing u turns.

Art Room Needs

The art room is gearing up for Term 2 and is asking for donations of newspapers and clean plastic bottles, We are looking forward to seeing the creations made with these items. Stay turned.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

The second hand uniform shop will be open on Thursday 4th April 2.30pm - 3.30pm

Manners Matter at KPS- Student Awards

Getting along with others is an important part of being successful as a member of a group, team, or classroom. When people start putting each other down, groups break up, teams tend to lose and classrooms become unhappy places. Therefore, if you really want to learn to be part of a group, you need to recognise when you are giving or getting a put-down.

The students listed below will receive an award in class on Friday due to no assembly on Friday. We congratulate:

Mother’s Day Stall 2019 will be on Thursday 9th

& Friday 10th

We will announce which classes will be on each day closer to the date. We have opted for 2 days, so kids have enough time now that we are at 25 classes

Helpful tips to make your child’s Mother’s Day stall shopping experience easy.

*Please put your child’s money in an envelope or snap lock bag with their name, class & amount

enclosed. Ask them to hand it to their teacher 1st thing in the morning, to avoid it getting misplaced before they go to the stall.

*Please bring a reusable bag with their name on it to put their gifts in.

They can buy 3 gifts when they come in with their class. Then at the end of their visit all kids with

money left over can buy more before they go back to class!! Gifts are priced from $1:00 to $6:00

There will be a raffle table. Tickets are $1:00 each and a max 5 raffle tickets per student.

Don’t miss out on the chance to win a wonderful prize.

We encourage children to purchase at least one gift before buying any raffle tickets.

*KPS Mother’s Day Raffle Donations Suggestions*

If families would like to donate to help make up the prizes for this year’s raffle.

Suggested items for donations include: Toiletries e.g. soaps, shower gel, hand and body cream, frames, books / recipe books, kitchen utensils, chocolate, vouchers, candle, candle holders, baskets for the hampers.

It would be appreciated if items could be left in the donation box near the office.

Thank you again for your support.

We will be asking for helpers’ early term 2 via our FB page and newsletter.
