On behalf of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association, I have the honour and privilege of welcoming all councilors, members and observers to the next Annual General Meeting and International Conference of our Association which will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 11th to 13th March, 2011. The timing is just right after the 1000th anniversary of this city. ASEAN IPA AGM and council meetings have proved to be an excellent opportunity for professionals in ASEAN and elsewhere to participate and observe the discussions in the existing and future direction of intellectual property laws and practices in the ASEAN region. Bat Trang ceramics village, a 500-year-old village, is located about 10 km northeast of Hanoi on the left bank of the Red River. Throughout the ups and downs of history, Bat Trang village has confirmed the value of its products. The traditional craft of ceramic making in Bat Trang has survived all challenges and continued to develop, especially over the past decades, with thousand of kilns on fire

around the clock. Many kilns in Bat Trang are now fuelled by gas, thus helping reduce environmental pollution and ensuring the quality of products. After Bat Trang, participants shall be visiting Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is a valuable centre for the exhibition and the preservation of cultural heritages of the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. At the Museum, people shall have the chance not only to visit and entertain, but also to learn about these ethnic groups’ cultural diversity and uniqueness, as well as the traditional values throughout the country of Vietnam.

Change of Hotel Booking Any change in reservation must be notified directly with the hotel no later than 2 March 2011. Cancellation must be made in writing.

Cancellation and Refund Cancellation should be made in writing and addressed to the Organizing Committee’s Secretariat. Ninety percent of the fee will be refunded for cancellation made on or before 15 February 2011. Cancellations made thereafter will merit no refund.

VIETNAM GENERAL INFORMATION Getting Around Meter taxis and hired cars are easy to find in Vietnam, especially in Hanoi. If you plan an extended visit you might consider renting a bicycle or motorbike. Climate Vietnam has a tropical climate, which is characterized by lots of sunshine, high rainfall, humidity and two distinguished seasons in general: the cold and dry one from November to April and the other, hot and wet from May to October. Annual average temperatures range from 22ºC to 27ºC. But the weather usually varies from the north to the south, and between delta land and mountains. Currency The currency is Vietnamese Dong (VND). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at the banks, exchange bureaus or hotel reception desks. Travelers' cheque and most of credit cards are accepted in the major cities. We recommend that you bring some cash with yourselves. Currency exchange rate: 1USD ~ 19.500VND. You can check the updated currency exchange rate at http://www.vietcombank.com.vn/English/Exchange%20Rate.asp. Food and Drinks There is a wide range of dishes in Vietnam, including the very popular nem (spring rolls) and pho (Vietnamese noodle in soup). Not all foods are spicy. Vegetarian foods, dietary dishes & western menus are also available at certain restaurants. Imported beers and alcohols are available in hotels, restaurants and shops. For drinking water, please use bottled water, which has an unbroken seal. You should not drink tap water without boiling it first. Mobile phone In Vietnam you will be able to use your mobile phone as long as it is programmed for roaming internationally. You may also rent a mobile phone, which may be easier, or buy a pre-paid phone card. This service is available at your hotel or at a Mobile Phone Service Center on the street. Visa Entry visas for most nationalities are obtainable from a Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate. Processing usually takes 4-10 working days.
