Aschaffenburg 2013 finally came to an end and this will be the very last issue of Aschaffenburn. Good things always happen too fast and we never have time to realise how good they were and how they managed to change ourselves. It seems like yesterday that Monigrun was editing the first issue of Aschaffenburn, excited about the session to come. And now, you might be home already, tired after the never ending GA.You might be trying to remember every second of the week-end checking pictures on Face-book, watching the Videos and going through the papers again and again. If you really feel like that, then our job did make sense. We tried to create something for you to remember every single feeling, every single smile from the ses-sion; we wanted you to find a cure to this so-fa-mous Post Eyp Depression while re-readingAschaffenburn after the session. We can’t decide whether we managed or not, but we are sure you know the answer yourselves.

See you around Europe - the EYP world is not that big.

QUEENS OF ASCHAFFENBURGMatteo & Charlotta

Anna is 20 years old and a real Aschaffenburger. She went to high school here, but now she is studying English and economics in Heidel-berg. She started EYP in 2010 at the German na-tionals. Vanessa is also 20 and comes from the region of Aschaffenburg. She is currently studying bioengi-neering in Magdeburg. She also started EYP in 2010 as an individual at an in-ternational forum. They met each other at an EYP Academy event that took place at this school.

When and where did you start organising the session?Anna: “We were both organising in Traun-stein and started won-dering who would do

it the next year and I thought it would be great to do it. I asked Vanessa because I thought she would be a lovely co-head organis-er, which she really is.”Vanessa: “Anna had planned the session be-fore, I had never really thought of it. I told her that I thought that it was a good idea. What draws you to-wards EYP?Vanessa: “It might sound like a really cheesy answer, but I think mostly the peo-ple. EYP would not be the same without all these wonderful in-dividuals. EYP is great to learn about academ-ic topics, but it is also a learning school when

it comes to social skills.Anna: “It is basically the same with me and I like organising a lot because I like to have something to look for-ward to. “Do you have any spe-cial advice for the delegates?Anna: “Talk during GA and do not try plan too many session in a short time: you get more out of it when they have some time in between because you are not feeling tired any more from the pre-vious session.”Vanessa: “Yeah, do not stop doing EYP, you will miss it. Drink enough coffee to stay awake.”

QUEENS OF ASCHAFFENBURGMatteo & Charlotta

What is the first thing you thought of the morning?Anna: “Actually, this morning I had a dream of Niall giving me in-structions on the wake up call and when I ac-tually woke up, I went to tell the organisers in charge what he had said because I thought it was true.”Vanessa: “I also had a dream with Niall in it: he had an organisa-tional announcement on GA that we had to move stuff around and it made me really ner-vous.”

How has EYP helped you in everyday life?Anna: “Definitely, in being organised and

how to write prop-er e-mails. It has im-proved my English, and I think that be-cause of EYP, I started my English studies at the university.”Vanessa: “To add to what Anna said, maybe that you can adapt to situations pretty quick-ly. I read European studies for a while and I would not have start-ed that without EYP.”

To ask about your GA clothing choices, who are you wearing today?Anna: ”I am wearing a dress from the Swedish designers Hennes and Mauritz and the shoes were actually bought for the meeting with

the mayor of Aschaf-fenburg”Vanessa: “I am wear-ing quite everything, let us call it vintage. The shoes I got from Scot-land.”

“EYP would not be the same without all these wonderful indi-viduals. EYP is great to learn about academic topics, but it is also a learning school when it comes to social skills.”

The Presidentials“The Presidentials” is a short theatrical play written by Meropi and dedicated with lots

of love to her exquisite committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.

Room E14-the committee room. The committee is gathered for the last goodbyes. Anna and Christina are crying, Lluis and Basel are trying to calm them down; Paula is collecting everybody’s facebook names. Zuzana and Johannes look desperate. Annika and Eva are hugging each other. Fredrik is preparing the last “Masinga”. Niall is thinking about dancing an Irish dance in order to cheer everyone up, but still, he won’t do it. The postman knocks the door. Fredrik opens it and receives a letter. He reads it out loud.

“Dear amazing, spectacular and beloved AGRI,The session is now over; we are all full of sorrow, as Post EYP Depression is messing with our hearts. However, we shall never forget our blissful memories and the moments we bravely accepted new challenges that made us stronger. I would like to congratulate

you for your remarkable work and effort, which will be rewarded. You are all amazing! Thank you for those wonderful moments and for helping me improve my German! I

really hope to see all of you again soon. Remember, the session might be over, but your EYP journey has just started. So be smart and get the most out of it!”

Anna: “That’s so sweet!” (she starts crying again)Lluis: “Don’t worry Anna! It’s just the beginning remember?”Annika: “I will miss you all guys, we were a great committee…”Niall: “Oh! I have an idea: We can plan a reunion in Ireland!”Fredrik: “And why not Sweden?”Johannes: “It can be both Ireland and Sweden. Now that we are proper EYPers we can travel all around the world…”Eva: “And meet more people, and make new friends…”Christina: “But we shall never forget each other guys!”Paula: “Our first fellow delegates are the ones we remember the most.”Zuzana: “Not only them, but also our chair and journalist, even the presi-dent in our case…”All together: “We are the Presidentials!” Basel: “Sorry guys, but I still cannot pronounce supsad…..”Fredrik: “Subsidie!”Niall: “Subsidy!”

MOTION FOR A RESOLUTION BYTHE COMMITTEE ON NORMAL PEOPLE

Thinking outside the box: How to assemble a group of strangers into a fully working committee? This paradox was passed by with the meth-ods from the topic experts Sabrina Ariana Mellerowic (Chairperson,

DE) and David Corish (Chairperson, IE). What have the delegates learnt during their Aschaffenburg Regional Session? Will they continue on

with EYP?

ITRE’s Defence SpeechDear Mr President, fel-low delegates, distin-guished guests! There is a group of people at this session who deserve special attention due to their awesomeness: Lucas, Felix, Arne, Maximil-ian, Verena, Marlene, Laura, Philipp and Bill, also known as the com-mittee on Industry, Re-search and Technology. Not only has this committee evolved from individual stu-dents to a hard-work-ing team of EYPers, they also managed to come up with an effi-cient system to improve their working process on the first day of their collaboration. When the delegates first came together, you could see the excitement and cu-riosity, but also a little bit of fear in their eyes. However, they faced their anxieties and lit-erally threw themselves at and over each other

– even though one of them had to break their most important rule: “Can’t touch this.” The Ninja game was their tool to release the pres-sure when the discus-sion heated up. ITRE was guided by two chairpersons who only expected and wanted the best for their committe. They also estab-lished a special method to make their working process as efficient as it could be. This involved ITRE going round in circles for a dozen times, always carrying their chairs with them. Although they did not hesitate to complain about the physical ex-haustion their chairs demanded, they han-dled Committee Work as if they never did anything else in their lives. ITRE did not even get distracted by the happiness of their officials but stayed fo-

cused and always gave their best. This is why the Com-mittee on the Assess-ment of Committees’ Awesomeness (ACAN) strongly recommends all participants of Aschaffenburg 2013 Regional Selection Conference to express their admiration and respect for the mem-bers of ITRE. In conclusion, one can say that ITRE’s struggling only made them stronger. Also, they completed the most important task: they enjoyed them-selves. ITRE laughed, danced, hugged and laughed. ACAN wishes them all the best and urges them to contin-ue their involvement in EYP if they enjoyed their time together as much as ACAN en-joyed observing them. Thank you for your attention.

A REGI FAIRYTALEOnce upon a time there were 10 dwarfs named Rebecca, Lydia, Julia, Catherine, David, Jan, Phillip, Michel, (Martin) and Nikola. They all wanted to visit the golden castle of the EYP kingdom. This kingdom was unknown to most of the dwarfs, and only little explored by the others. Although some of the dwarfs did come from the same country, they did not know each other. The remaining dwarfs travelled a log way to visit the foreign kingdom. Because they could only succeed as a team, they had two instruc-tors at their side, the witches Felicitas and Iovanna. It was their task to watch over the dwarfs and encourage them. But at first the dwarfs needed to get to know each other.

Storytelling time re-vealed that some dwarfs were involved in violent street fight with the police. Some others proved themselves to be musical and doing a lot of sports. When threatened by terrorists, they had to decide over life and death. Although the is-sue was really serious and controversial, they managed to reach an agreement. Now they were ready to continue their adventure. Although the task was very exhausting, they were all very pas-sionate about it and debated vividly. All of the dwarfs were well prepared. Occasional-ly, one of the dwarfs would tell some anec-dotes about personal experiences with the topic. The fact that they did not always agreed

on some points im-mediately, proved that everyone had his own opinion and was will-ing to defend it. To the great misfor-tune of all, one of the dwarfs was lost in the woods. When they finally entered the river of Resolution, all of them seemed very pleased with what they accom-plished. The last thing sep-arating them from their destination was the wa-terfall of phrasing. The witches worked some final magic and they found the castle in front of them. The only thing left to do now is to con-vince the knights of the jury at the assembly held by King Niall and his two princesses. And they are go-ing to live happily ever after.

Pineapple CropAs many pleasant things happening in our lives, the session in Aschaffenburg has suddenly come to its end, leaving lots of memories. Alike to many EYPers, you might regret that ses-sions are too short and not ever-lasting. I hope that the world of EYP has opened to you in the brightest and deep-est colours. With this final article I address to you, marvellous Secu-rity and Defence com-mittee. First of all, I would like to say that it was a great pleasure to work with a group of so ded-icated and responsible people. Perhaps, the stars have done their trick upon us, because it is hard to believe that such different and still perfectly supplement-ing each other people met in one place with the same purpose. I am truly delighted with the

amount of efforts each of you has put into committee work. I must admit that in the early Saturday morning, when I saw your finished work in the resolution book-let for the first time, I was deeply impressed on the diplomatic ap-proach with which you managed to combine opposite opinions in one resolution. I think that it is an important goal to achieve, be-cause it shows how your abilities to work as a command and the in-put of your chairs have succeeded. The feeling of being pride of you definitely made my day. Furthermore, I would like to say a word of appreciation to the level of your prepa-ration to the General Assembly. Each speech was unique and ex-tremely important, which explains your unbelievable calmness

and presence of min defending your resolu-tion. Finally, I want you to get back to the day of Committee Work for a second. All of you were struggling to raise the efficiency of the resolution, but the opinions were diamet-rically opposite, which made everyone puzzled and depressed. Then, at the GA, I saw your eyes full of confidence and energy. The spir-it of EYP has deeply penetrated into your lives and has its fruits. But, not pineapples, my dears. No pineap-ples anymore.

The Knights of Aschaffenburg

In a land of myth, a powerful guild ruled over all people of the Regional Session in Aschaffenburg. Since the day of their arrival there, ENVI I’s pres-ence has been felt by everybody. Initiated in the arts of EYP by their sagacious chairpersons through their mysterious games, passed down from one chairperson to another belonging to the same bloodline, the knights of ENVI I have mas-tered the arts of steal thing of the Ninja Game, they have learnt how to win a brawl by performing Street Fighter or strength-ened their stamina by playing Cat and Mouse.

Further on, in order to become full-fledged rulers, those knights also had to sharpen their speech skills so as the subjects will obe-diently follow them to the very ends of the Earth. Therefore, they have participat-ed in long, enduring and heated Commit-tee Work discussions, during which they have found feasible and conventional solutions to the problem of wa-ter pollution. It was of paramount importance for them to find a reso-lution on this matter so as to prove themselves. However, in order to become true lead-ers, they had to pres-ent their resolution in

front of all guilds. Due to the fact that they have harshly worked on this issue, every-one approved of them as leaders because of their persuasive skills and great knowledge. Ergo, ENVI I’s reso-lution managed to save the population of plan-et Earth and, later on, they changed the name of their guild into The Knights of Aschaffen-burg. Even nowadays, in the year of 2569, the results of their doing can be seen, given that we still have drinking water, fish and no pol-lution at all.

Flavius

A powerful guild once ruled over this territory! Are you wondering, maybe, who?

ENVI II For Sale

They are young, they are innovative, their brains are storming all the time. As you had an option to see in the Resolution Book-let, they are more than that. This six people had managed to write a very interesting list of problems and solu-tions. Their solutions were admirable, pro-posed changes mo-mentous. So how much are you going to pay? Oh... 350 Euro, but they are worth more! I want to hear at least 400!Members of the com-mittee used to be just a bunch of individuals, but it is not true any-more. ENVI II is now a team. The team which

realizes its strength. But they are even bet-ter. After four amazing days in Aschaffenburg, we can consider them as friends. Are there still any of you who doubt whether to buy them or not? You will not be disappointed, they can write a resolution in a remarkable short amount of time. 400? Have I heart well? 400 Euro going once, go-ing twice. I am still sure that they are worth more. They have a lot to of-fer. An immense range of opinions, a lot of fun and last but not least FIFA nights. Ac-cidentally becoming Ninjas, preparation of

tasty Fruit Salads and Banana Cocktails and establishing elaborated Facebook pages, this is their style. There is no room for hesitation, it is a life chance. 1000, wow 2000 Euro, trust me you will not regret. 2000 going once, going twice and... Did I hear properly? Does Euro-pean Parliament really want to buy them for Infinity? That is what I call a confidence! Infin-ity going once, going twice and sold!

Václav

Dear participants of Aschaffenburg 2013, welcome to Aschaffenburn auction house. The best committee, ENVI II, is for sale. The starting price is 312 €. I want to hear at least 400. I can ensure you that you will not be sorry!

So, now you all know what being an EY-Per is like. I am more than sure that, tak-ing the good with the bad, you have spent a magnificent time at this Regional Selection Session in the beautiful city of Aschaffenburg. Being able to partic-ipate in a professional debate, to express your point of view or to de-liver a speech, you have been part of the best session so far this year (Leipzig could have only dreamt of having such a session). Now, it is certain that you will want to participate in anoth-er session as soon as possible once the PED kicks in. Even if you

will not be selected for the National Session, it doesn’t mean that your world will fall apart. Some of you may feel this strange sadness. The sadness is called Post EYP Depression. Something big has end-ed. You may not meet many of your new friends for a long time. You have to come back to ordinary life. Nevertheless, there is no need to be sad. The session was fab-ulous, that is for sure, but real life is out there. The reason why we do EYP is to learn things you will use in your real life afterwards. Please do not forget about it. Remember the good moments and please

do not falter after the session. It may seem hard, but we can offer you an advice. With more than 100 sessions a year all over Europe, you will always have the oppor-tunity of meeting with your friends again or exercise your debating skills. Apply for your next session, join us and experience those special moments again.

Lidiia

Now What?Do you already miss EYP? Do you want to experience those special moment again?.

Page 18: Aschaffenburn Issue #4

The Leaders: they are the most talkative EYPers. Usu-ally, they have done a great research on their topic or they are more experienced than their fellow delegates, fact that provides them self-confidence. However, sometimes this self-confidence can make them a bit arrogant and compet-itive, and can really ruin the discussion in the committee.

The Shy: they are basically the listeners. Even if they have the most amazing ideas, they would rather listen to the oth-er delegates’ discussion, rather than speak out themselves. The Shy delegates refuse to be a part of the videos of the session, and their most important task is to hide from the journalists’ cameras.

The Chair Lovers: they are in love with their chairs; they simply enjoy listening to the melody of their voice. They would never disobey them and they would make sure that all the committee follows their instructions.

The Funny: they have the most amazing taste of humor. They walk around all the time with a big smile on their face. Most of the times the jokes they made are hilarious, but there might be some situations that their jokes create a very big “awkward silence”.

The Blondy: The one who asks the most embarrassing and stupid questions. The name might mislead as not all “blondies” are blond. Their knowledge rather reaches to celebrities and Hollywood than the academical stuff.

The Borer: The one who is not interested in taking part in the teambuilding and committee work, comments on EYP being boring and spreads yawns to the others like it is a disease.

The Delegator: A think tank cyber-robot.
