PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

In observance of MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY MONDAY, JANUARY 16

There will be a 9:00 a.m. Mass only Parish office will be closed

A message from Brother Jim... January 8, 2017 Feast of the Epiphany Today we celebrate the gifts of the Magi to the Holy Family. It makes me think of my time delivering gifts to Chicago families from Ascension this Christmas season. Your generosity was overwhelming. It took me days to deliver gifts to the seven families. Then I took the extras and delivered presents to another 20 families. I was in a home this past week and all the children ran up to me and gave me hugs. I had not really had much interaction with the children prior to the Christmas Season. The appreciation of your generosity goes beyond the Christmas season because the families have felt your love. May God Bless you throughout the coming year. Sincerely, Br. Jim Fogarty Brothers and Sisters of Love

A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who participated in the planning and coordination of all events this past weekend when Bishop

Conlon visited our parish, including driving and providing and serving meals. Your time and efforts were greatly appreciated. Thank you for all who made the weekend liturgies extra special and to our parishioners who attended Mass and took the time to greet Bishop Conlon.

LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDREN meets on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the Church. If you are interested in helping with this joyous service, please contact Jan Naborowski at 630.400.7342 or email her at [email protected].

Friday a parade down Penn-sylvania Avenue takes place after the swearing in ceremonies. Official inaugural balls will held that evening. On Saturday, President Trump, Vice-Pres- ident Pence and families will attend a national pray-er service at the Washington National Cathedral, will conclude the celebrations. Say a prayer of your own for Peace, Unity and to bless America.

PUSH BACK ON SELF; SHIFT TOWARD OTHERS

In these days of “selfies” and “me, me” gratification, we need to look outside of ourselves and see who else is in this world of ours. We might be surprised to learn that NO ONE around us is exactly like us, that everyone has their unique existence and characteristics that only God could fashion. However, the way we uniquely distinguish ourselves is by how we cohabitate and live together as parts of God’s total creation. We must learn to play, work and live with all of creation and do as God wants us – to strive to become selfless in our love for others and His creation. This is especially true in our relationships to those who have little or need much just to have ordinary lives. The work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is but one of the many ways we can put our own needs and wants aside and instead offer our help to others who need the support of others for even the basics of life. The work of our Society allows everyone an opportunity to move from self-centeredness to centering ourselves in the world around us. Please consider joining with us to assist those who can benefit from a little of your time, talents, and treasures and as many prayers as you can spare. Give us a bit of yourself and working together we can create the miracles God requests. Don’t forget to dine at Anyway’s and have a warm meal and drinks the costs of which can earn our Society a substantial receipt rebate donation that becomes your way of sharing your meal with others. Also do not forget that we have tax exemption receipts ready for your monetary donations, your household goods and clothing, and the non-perishable food items you bring each month for the York Township Food Pantry. Let us know of ways you can shift from self into the world of others.
