Tools A's win led by grand slam - PHOTO GALLERY Caron cranks it for a second time By Daniel Perry, The Daily Press Updated 2 hours ago The "Iron Horse" Lou Gehrig holds the major league baseball record for the most grand slams, as he belted out 23 during his 17-year career with the Yankees. Gehrig's record might be safe for a few more years, but Laronde Little League slugger Ashton Caron is clearing the bases for his Timmins volunteer firefighter Athletics team at a torrid pace. The 13-year-old hit his second four-run dinger in as many years Tuesday night in his team's 7-1 upending of the Krazy Krazy Red Sox in major little league action. Action on the field didn't start smoothly for the Red Sox. The team's first three batters failed to reach first base, as Athletics pitcher Thomas Quinn made his presence felt early. He struck out two of the three batters he faced in the opening inning. The 11-year-old pitched all seven innings for his team, for the first time ever. He struck out nine opposing batters along the way. Despite Quinn's pinpoint accuracy, the Red Sox loaded the bases in the top of the second. Quinn's good luck streak continued though. Following a wild pitch, he rushed to home plate to tag out a Red Sox runner trying to score on the play. Caron's monster home run came less than 30 minutes later. He spoke about his grand slam after the game. "I cranked one last year, so I really wanted to get another one this season. My dad told me that if I hit another one this year, he'll give me a $100," Caron said. "I didn't swing at the first pitch, but it was right down the pipe. I knew I should swing at the second one and as soon as I made contact I knew it would make it over the fence." The "Iron Horse" Lou Gehrig holds the major league baseball record for the most grand slams, as he belted out 23 during his 17-year career with the Yankees.

I knew I should swing at the second one and as soon as I made contact I knew it would make it over the fence."
