A “not so new” command

1 John 2:7-11 – 7 Beloved, I am writing

you no new commandment, but an old

commandment that you had from the

beginning. The old commandment is the

word that you have heard. 8 At the same

time, it is a new commandment that I am

writing to you, which is true in him and in

you, because the darkness is passing

away and the true light is already shining.

9 Whoever says he is in the light and

hates his brother is still in darkness. 10

Whoever loves his brother abides in the

light, and in him there is no cause for

stumbling. 11 But whoever hates his

brother is in the darkness and walks in

the darkness, and does not know where

he is going, because the darkness has

blinded his eyes.

1. We know who to

love.

1 Thessalonians 4:9-12 – 9 Now concerning

brotherly love you have no need for anyone to

write to you, for you yourselves have been taught

by God to love one another, 10 for that indeed is

what you are doing to all the brothers throughout

Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this

more and more, 11 and to aspire to live quietly,

and to mind your own affairs, and to work with

your hands, as we instructed you, 12 so that you

may walk properly before outsiders and be

dependent on no one.

1. We know who to love.

2. We know how to

love.

2. We know how to love.
