The power and electrical systems business sector contributes a stable supply of electricity around the world through the

construction of power plants, substations, and transmission lines, and the supply of power plant equipment and its

after-sales services. We thoroughly grasp the various needs of customers in a timely manner and provide value-added

total solutions as a trading company, such as, 1) coordinating finances necessary for projects, 2) participating in

biddings, 3) collaborating with optimum partners, 4) negotiating contracts, 5) receiving orders, 6) executing contracts,

and 7) providing after-sales services. We handle existing thermal power plant equipment, power transmission, and

substation equipment, as well as renewable energy equipment such as geothermal power plants, hydropower plants, solar

power, offshore wind power, and battery storage systems.

Furthermore, after the construction of power plants, we provide after-sales services such as 1) long-term service and

maintenance to maintain safe and reliable operation of power plants, 2) retrofitting for performance recovery and improve

defficiency of existing power plants, and 3) retrofitting for environmental measures. We are developing our business by

maximizing the synergy between the power plant construction business and the after-sales service business.

Our activities are spread throughout the world, centering on Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Central and South

America. We are developing our business flexibly with our overseas staff to discover our customers’ capital investment

information and needs by fully utilizing the resources and knowledge of Mitsubishi Corporation Group’s overseas

operational network and power solution business. Seizing the trends, we are focusing on renewable energy projects and

POWER & ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

In Uzbekistan, which aims for sustainable economic development, we have utilized a Japanese ODA loan to solve the problem of stable power supply and complete the Navoiy 2 GTCC power plant and Turakurgan GTCC power plant construction projects with our partner in 2020 as originally planned. Through these projects, we are contributing to the stable supply of electricity in Uzbekistan and the reduction of environmental load.

Uzbekistan GTCC (Gas Turbine Combined Cycle) Power Plant Projects

As an EPC contractor, we constructed the Dahtan Gas Fired Combined Cycle Power Plant, which is an important large-scale power source in Taiwan. Since the commencement of operation in 2006, we have been providing after-sales services through a long-term maintenance contract aiming for stable operation and developing our relationship with the customer. Thus, we are able to grasp the customer’s needs accurately in time, and as a result, recently we have been working on the gas turbine upgrade project of to realize the following: 1) rapid start-up in response to demand, 2) increased output (MW), 3) improved efficiency, 4) extension of the inspection interval to reduce operation and maintenance costs, and 5) NOx reduction.

We have been actively working on renewable energy projects such as offshore wind power and battery energy storage systems (BESS), and catching up with the trends of structural industry reforms and decarbonization. We received an order for the first large-scale battery energy storage system in Thailand and have been globally working on many renewable energy projects, such as offshore wind power in Taiwan. Going forward, we will actively create renewable energy projects and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

The infrastructure and industrial projects business sector contributes to infrastructure development and economic growth

around the world through engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects.

These include social infrastructure projects like airports, seaports, roads, and bridges which establish a basis for

economic growth; industrial projects such as chemical plants, iron and steel plants, and non-ferrous metal plants that

support a country’s key industries; and supplying key equipment like compressors which can be considered the core of

chemical plants. In the social infrastructure segment, we are engaged in high-quality infrastructure development in

countries around the world together with strategic partners both in Japan and overseas. We are also helping to build

significant infrastructure like airports, seaports, and water treatment plants by utilizing official development assistance

(ODA) from Japan. In the chemical plant segment, we are involved in developing facilities such as LNG plants, which are

vital to energy policy, and fertilizer plants to meet the growing global demand for food. We manage all phases including

contract signing, contract execution, and ongoing after-sales services. In the iron and steel and non-ferrous metal plants

segment, we are cooperating with strategic partners in Japan and overseas to contribute to the development of countries

primarily in Asia and the Americas by working on the construction and commissioning of primary key structures, such as

blast furnaces, electric furnaces, and rolling mills.

The infrastructure project business sector is diverse, but we are constantly leveraging our experience and knowledge to

work toward creating new businesses that contribute to society.

Turkmenistan has the fourth largest gas reserves in the world. We are currently undertaking an ammonia and urea project in Garabogaz on the Caspian Sea that utilizes these competitive gas resources alongside Japanese technology and finance. Urea from this plant boosts agricultural output within the country and helps in the acquisition of foreign currency through exports.

We have formed a consortium with India’s largest construction company, Larsen & Toubro, and are pursuing a new hot rolling mill construction project for the Steel Authority of India Limited in the city of Rourkela in state of Odisha, which is in the eastern part of India. In light of India’s huge population, it is expected to continue to experience stable economic growth and infrastructure investment going forward. Together with our strategic partners in Japan and overseas, we plan to steadily implement projects backed by high technological competence and experience, contributing to the steel industry and India’s development.

New hot rolling mill construction project in Rourkela, India

We are currently executing a contract for one of India’s major fertilizer manufacturers that has placed successive orders for compressors to be used primarily in three large-scale fertilizer plants that are under construction. We plan to contribute to each country’s economic development throughout the world by supplying key Japanese equipment, like compressors, that are technically superior.

Exporting cutting-edge technology compressors for fertilizer plants in India

As it grapples with post-war reconstruction, the only international port in the Republic of Iraq is the southern port of Basra. This port is important for importing goods essential to daily life and for acquisition of foreign currency through exports. Here, we are building a new berth using Japanese technology.This project is the successor to the port facilities constructed here by Mitsubishi Corporation in the 1970s, nicknamed “the Mitsubishi berth.” After 40+ years, we are very pleased to contribute to reconstruction and economic development in this country together with our strategic partner in Turkey, Calik Holding.

This was the first metro project in Bengaluru (the capital of India’s southern state of Karnataka), which is often called “India’s Silicon Valley.” Developed through economic cooperation with Japan, we have delivered 150 vehicles for the metro system currently in operation on two lines. This metro has mitigated some of India’s worst traffic jams and contributed to more effortless day-to-day living. In addition, 135 of the 150 vehicles were assembled and tested onsite, helping to create local jobs.

This is a fully automatic unmanned urban transportation system with a total length of 89.6 km that was opened in Dubai, UAE in 2009. Dubai Metro connects stations that are accessible to buses, taxies, and water buses, and provides people with highly convenient means of transportation by connecting major regions such as Dubai International Airport and Burj Khalifa. In addition, Dubai Metro greatly contributes to the mitigation of chronic traffic congestion caused by the rapid economic development and population explosion in Dubai.

TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS

The transportation systems business sector is actively working on businesses that have high publicness and growth

potential, centering on railway vehicles and systems in social infrastructure that are directly connected with the

improvement of people’s daily lives. Exporting Japan’s highly advanced railway system contributes to the infrastructure of

developing countries. It relieves traffic jams and helps promote a low carbon society. In addition, we contribute to the

development of local communities by creating employment through assembly and maintenance work on site.

The following are achievements we have made in business in recent years; 1) Cairo Metro, which is highly lauded as

“the fourth pyramid” in Egypt, 2) India Delhi Metro, which introduced Japanese energy-saving technology and was

registered as the world’s first clean development mechanism (CDM) project in the railway business, 3) Dubai Metro, the

world’s longest unmanned operation railway system, which is a project contracted throughout its design to construction

and commencement of operation, and 4) an electric locomotive for tugboats that supports marine vessels that sail the

Panama Canal.

The field of transportation infrastructure requires a wide variety of functions in a trading company, such as exploring

projects, implementing feasibility studies, arranging financing, and composing consortiums. Furthermore, a general

railway developer is also required that collectively contracts for planning routes, laying tracks, supplying vehicles and

signal/communication devices, managing operations, and maintaining business. We firmly grasp these various customer

needs and support customers to provide the best solutions.

Developing transportation systems

for the world as the INFRASTRUCTURE SOLUTION PROVIDERThis is the first railway project in Qatar that has been conducted as part of municipal development/improvement in Doha, the capital of Qatar, prompted by the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar is one of the Gulf countries in the Middle East that has remarkably developed in recent years. The railway project is a fully automatic unmanned operation system with a total length of 76 km. We have been mainly in charge of supplying vehicles (330 in total) and have greatly contributed to the fulfilment of the contract.

Sikorsky, which is part of Lockheed Martin, we support the introduction and procurement of various equipment, systems,

engines, and other components for aircraft, ships, and land/sea-based systems operated by the Japan Self-Defense

Forces. In the civilian helicopter sector, we provide helicopters manufactured by Sikorsky to the Japan Coast Guard, local

governments, and commercial enterprises.
