Hi folks,
Nearly halfway through term now and exam season is in full swing. Make sure you take the time to read up on our Feel Good Campaign (warwicksu.com/feelgood) and stay healthy over the coming weeks!
We’re all still busy in SUHQ working on different projects and I’m writing the intro this week due to the launch of the Union Democracy Review. Full details are available online with thoughts on how to make democracy more simple, accessible and relevant to your lives as a student alongside some technology to drag us into the 21st century…I’d really appreciate people’s feedback, so if you’re looking for a revision break or are in the mood to procrastinate then send me some thoughts: [email protected].
Finally, remember that tickets are still on sale for this year’s Summer Party – it’s a guaranteed show-stopper and will always be one of the highlights of my time at Warwick. Get your ticket now and have something to look forward to once essays, exams and dissertations are but a distant memory…
Good luck!
Chris Luck

DEMOCRACY OFFICER
news in briefWelfare and Campaigns Officer Re-electionAfter another week of feverish campaigning, we’re pleased to announce that the Welfare & Campaigns Officer Re-election achieved quoracy – congratulations to the winner, Ben Sundell, who now joins Nick, James, Anna, Cosmo, Silkie and Bam to form your Sabbatical Officer team 2012/13!
Wsaf coming soon! Warwick Student Arts Festival (WSAF) is one of the largest student arts festivals in Europe and is hosted annually at the University of Warwick. It’s an entirely student-run, four-day festival of over one hundred free events ranging from beat-boxing to Brecht and covering all art forms from theatre to music via film, visual arts and dance.
This year’s festival will run from Sunday 24th to Wednesday 27th June (Week 9-10) - head over to www.wsaf.co.uk to get a sneak preview of what’s on offer this year!
Society Awards 2012
One of the highlights of the WSAF programme is the Society Awards, which honours the contributions made to student life by the SU’s 300+ clubs and socs. This year’s event takes place on Tuesday 26th June in Butterworth Hall, and will be a black-tie event with light supper & wine provided. Keep your eyes on the SU website in the coming weeks to grab a ticket for this unforgettable night of dance, drama and entertainment!
Grad Ball 2012 - table plans now available online
You are now able to submit your table plans online for the Grad Ball at www.warwicksu.com/summer/gradball/
Please note that tables can now only seat a maximum of 10 people, not 12 as originally specified. We do of course apologise profusely for this late change – unfortunately we were informed of this by the Hilton after we had originally published the information online! However, if you want
to submit two groups of a smaller number, we will do our best to seat you next to each other.

Warwick SU is run by students, for students, but we know from your feedback that many of you can often feel alienated from the Union’s core democratic structures and processes for a multitude of reasons.
As promised in his election manifesto last year, SU Democracy Officer Chris Luck has been hard at work taking onboard all your comments and feedback from the Democracy Review, The Big 5 survey, Rant Week and beyond in a bid to come up with a new democratic system for the 21st Century.
SU Democracy Review
2012
2012
We’re proud to announce that you can see the full Democracy Review online at www.warwicksu.com/democracy/review - we’re now looking for your feedback, questions and comments before we start taking the proposals forward!
It’s your Union - make sure you email [email protected] with your thoughts!
We’ve now boiled those issues down into three key goals, which are to make Union Democracy more:
SIMPLE
ACCESSIBLE
RELEVANT
to understand and be involved in
all year round and regardless of time available
to Warwick students’ lives
• You don’t like long meetings
• You don’t like decisions being made on your behalf
• You like online voting
• You don’t like our jargon and our bureaucracy
• You think we talk about the wrong issues
• You don’t know how to find out what’s going on
• You don’t know who the decision-makers are.

Explore the world, make your Summer count!
It’s been another thoroughly rocking year up in Crash HQ which has seen surreal sing-alongs to The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, conga lines aplenty and – of course! - muchos moshing to the world’s noisiest alternative thumpers. As is customary in Term 3, we’re opening up the floodgates of democracy and asking YOU to pick your favourite Crash anthems of the year!
Whether you “blessed the rains down in Africa” to Toto, unleashed a rampage of gratuitous riffs to Rammstein or skanked yourself silly to Sublime, now’s your chance to have your say in determining the playlist for the final Crash of term. All your need to do to cast your vote is ‘Like’ the Crash Top 40 2012 page on Facebook, pick your FIVE favourite tunes from the shortlist on the ‘About’ section and post them as a comment on the wall – we’ll tally up the scores and unleash the countdown in full on Saturday 2nd June!
This is always one of the highlights of the year here at the Union as the Crash Massive limber up to get very silly indeed to one of the most banging soundtracks around – if you’re a fan of rock, metal, punk or ska, make sure that you don’t miss out!
