How well did you plan your production and what methods did you use?

My group often changed there ideas on what theme we were trying to display, this affected our time management and resulted in the production being of poor quality. Although our short trailer was rushed we managed to come to an agreement on what theme was acceptable amongst the group participants. We decided on what theme to choose by voting between 3 different selections , this was effective as it allowed each group member to have an input .Not much planning at all was devoted towards the production as we were disorganised and were not determined to complete the trailer. Although voting was the method used to decide on what theme we were going to pick, it wasted a large amount of time. In addition people who voted for other themes decided not cooperate with the group as they were disappointed, this then demotivated the whole group and lowered expectations of the final production.

What influenced your choice of theme?

The choice of theme was influenced by the famous film the godfather as it was popular amongst our group and we believed that it would be very expressive and intense . Secondly the godfather was a very wise film to get inspiration of as it showed our group was very creative and it pushed our abilities to fullest. Although the godfather was our main attraction we decided to project a modern day twist on it as we wanted to appeal to an audience that could relate .Furthermore we decided to alter the dress code and speech code used in our trailer. This is due to us not having experience in acting and we discussed what we thought was suitable for are abilities to play certain characters.

How well did your product meet the original proposal?

Our group steered away from the original plan a lot as we underestimated how difficult it would be to perform a godfather scene. We lacked the things necessary to perform the original proposal for example a poker table and suits with ties. Furthermore we wasn’t financially equipped enough to buy all the things needed for the trailer. Although we steered away from the original production the main plot was not significantly changed as it still demonstrated gambling and betting. The location of where we planned to film was unfortunately not available therefore we had to settle for a location that was severely busy which is heard in the trailer.

What camera shots were used and what effect did they have?

The most common camera shot that was used in our trailer was a medium shot. This is because we wanted the audience to concentrate on the facial expressions that each character presented as it was the most significant factor in trailer that would help you to understand what was going on. however we wanted them to notice the body language and clothes being worn as it symbolised what kind of persona each character was displaying.

Shot reverse shot- This technique is instrumental for Hollywood’s classical editing style, as it typically provides continuity in conversation with characters filmed at eye-level. This helped the audience to immerse in the dialogue.

Panning was often used to explore the scene and show each characters emotions when filming. One of the simplest and most common movements is to turn, or pan , the camera horizontally so that it sweeps around the scene.

What mise en scene was used?

Costumes- wearing all black was a significant decision that the group all agreed on as we felt that it supported the vibe we was trying to display, which was a modern day gangster gambling game. Body language-the two male actors were often in a slouching position on the chair as we wanted to project a gangster demeanour and show great dominance amongst the other participants in the black jack game.Props- a set of cards were used to demonstrate what type of game we were playing which was black jack. Our phones were used as winnings for the person who won the game this showed how serious we were as we were willing to bet things that were of great value. A round table was used to sit around when playing the game as this was the closest thing to poker table.Lighting- the lighting was provided by the sun as we were not able to control it due to the location we had to settle for.
