As I watched the sun cascade over As I watched the sun cascade over the building tops, it was a normal day the building tops, it was a normal day in 2007. Well, that was what I in 2007. Well, that was what I thought. As I left my house for school, thought. As I left my house for school, I heard the combustion, and the I heard the combustion, and the fumes from factories and cars as they fumes from factories and cars as they ran through my head erupting my ran through my head erupting my brain cells and tingling my bones. It brain cells and tingling my bones. It was typical New York. I had no idea, was typical New York. I had no idea, that in a a couple of minutes, the that in a a couple of minutes, the world as I knew it would change. I world as I knew it would change. I would never have to inhale that would never have to inhale that smoke again. As I turned the corner smoke again. As I turned the corner and was entering the front doors of and was entering the front doors of my school, the warning bell rang. I ran my school, the warning bell rang. I ran to class, not wanting to be late.to class, not wanting to be late.

I walked into my Social Studies class knowing what I would face, a class of arguing because of controversial remarks being said, either made by my teacher or by a self-centered student. Teachers always scolded us not to dishearten others, but this just urged others to do it more. What was the argument? Well let’s just say that not everyone in my class likes President Bush. Mr. Tilden rolled in the television, for what he said was to be a catastrophe for our nation, and the world…….

As the television was turned on, the class soon noticed that there was a crisis in the Middle East. Apparently, Saudi Arabia has made a pact with Iraqi and Turkish terrorists, and has therefore signed a pact giving them access to Saudi Arabia, and money. A meeting is being held today with the Bush administration, to discuss what steps the U.S. will take against Saudi Arabia.

It was obvious that this war had no point to it, and it’s obvious other nations have discovered that, since all of our alliances have been broken. The media was all over the story, but no one knew what America was to do. The reason I suppose a decision can’t be made President Bush doesn’t know what to do. It still bewilders me how a man like him can be the president of the most powerful nation in the world…. Or at least the most powerful for now.

That week was most painful for our nation. Since Saudi Arabia was supporting the terrorists on the front, shipments of oil to the nation were being stopped, and the Saudi Embassy withdrew their billions of dollars invested in the market. When I say the market crashed, I mean with incredible fashion. What was the nation to do? What was Bush’s next move? I’d be surprised if any changes were brought about, since all of his proposed plans have been voided. I blame the government, because I feel they procured all of this. The government has successfully managed to bring this powerful and spirited nation into the dirt.

The next day, President Bush met for a televised press conference, including the press. The school watched this event in the auditorium. We were looking forward to seeing Bush be mortified beyond belief. As the event began, President Bush declared Saudi Arabia a hostile nation. They have refused peace talks with the United States, and have declared war, and have promised to inflict pain onto our nation. He then began to say that there are not enough men for the forefront, and that a draft was being issued for males and females ages fifteen to twenty five. Wait! Did I hear what I just think I heard? That means me. That means I’m going to war.

Me, being a boy who couldn’t even kick the ball in soccer the right way, winced at the thought; I could be going to war! The thought of fighting terrorists, Saudi Arabians, and now the latest edition, North Korea, tore at my mind. I couldn’t believe this could happen. The next day, my grade went to enlist, and wait to be called to serve our country. When the time came, would I be wayward, and hide, or would I do my duty. All that ran through my head were images of the forefront, the ground sodden with blood, the dead bodies, bullets whizzing by your head. But nothing would prepare me for the next day.

We entered class as a normal day, trying not to think of negatives about being sent to war. Then, it happened, right then and there. An army sergeant entered the room with a list. It was in fact, the list of those who were being called to war, to serve their country.

Was my name on it?

As the names were being called out I curled into my desk, as if silence would reduce my chances of being called. I heard the names of classmates and friends being called, watching them walk to their deaths. But wait, my name wasn’t called, and the same for three others. We had avoided the roll call, we were the survivors… or so we thought.

A few weeks passed, no advances on the front. But we soon learned that North Korea was planning a nuclear weapon attack on the United States. What would we do? That question was soon answered. Nothing. Our nation was ignoring the threats. And so, a few days passed then a week, and still nothing. Our school had closed, and declared early recess, vacation. As I awoke I heard alarms. They were ringing around the city. I turned on the news and soon learned that our nation was under attack, that the threats were real. A nuclear missile was heading towards the United States!

I turned off the television and ran to the window. I could see the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom, welcoming. The alarms grew louder and louder. There was nothing anyone could do. So I laid there staring out my window, head pounding, and then I began to think.

All dominant world powers have come to an end in the past. Look at the Romans, the Greeks. Why? Why now? Then I realized that we brought this upon to ourselves. God created humans, and we created war, and with that weapons.

I could see the bomb dropping, falling from the sky. Would there ever be a nation like the United States?

No never. It the end of the end. The United States is going down but without us so is the world.

And then the tears began to fall from my eyes. As the bomb hit the ground all was quiet. There was complete silence.

Silence.Silence.
