INTRODUCTION
A DTH Operator offers TV subscription services
The DTH Operator now wants to add Internet access to the offering
This can be achieved by
adding terrestrial broadband access (fixed or mobile) through co-
operation with network owners
investing in and owning networks (fiber, HFC, fixed radio, WiMAX,
LTE etc)
VSAT – but can be a little expensive / complicated
In some areas, both mobile and fixed networks are not good enough to
carry good quality data services, unless a very high CAPEX per
connection is invested
Is there any other solution?
THE SITUATION (example 1)
INTRODUCTION
A Mobile Network Operator (MNO) operates a nation-wide
network
Today there is patchy 3G coverage, mixed with EDGE and
GPRS areas. LTE being rolled out in urban areas
The Mobile Network is, at least partially, saturated (data) but the
business case for adding infrastructure (3G or LTE) is uncertain
How can the MNO offer broadband to households, SME’s, NGO
offices, governmental offices, schools, Cybercafes, etc in areas
where
The existing mobile infrastructure does not permit that
Off-load options to fixed networks do not exist?
THE SITUATION (example 2)
ARYCOM / FORSWAY OFFERING
By extending mobile networks with satellite services to the
customer premises, broadband access can be offered
All downstream data traffic is routed over satellite
All data traffic upstream from the users goes through the Mobile
Network
At the head end, a Proxy Server performs Gateway, Subscriber /
Traffic / Security / FAP Management and BSS features
The solution is called ForsONEway™
AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION
Mimir and Encapsulator are deployed at the earth station, close
to the satellite transmission gear
Mimir is managed remotely

ARYCOM SOLUTION
ForsONEway™, ARCHITECTURE
ARYCOM / FORSWAY SOLUTION
1. In 2G areas - where voice works well, but mobile data is very
slow - ForsONEway enables broadband without building new
infrastructure
2. In saturated 3G areas (slow data transfer), ForsONEway both
boosts the broadband connection and offloads the network as
downstream data goes via satellite. New infrastructure can be
postponed for many years or may not be needed at all
3. Simple satellite TV dishes (existing or new) & LNB are enough
FORSONEWAY – DIFFERENTIATORS (1)
ARYCOM / FORSWAY SOLUTION
4. Because it is satellite receive-only, pointing and installation is
not as critical (compared to VSAT which requires more
advanced set-up)
5. Flexibility regarding return (up-link) with a wide choice of
technologies (xDSL, PSTN, cellular, WiMAX, Ethernet…)

SOLUTION MAIN COMPONENTS
The integrated system, ForsONEway™, comprises
(CPE) ODIN™, satellite modem including Wi-Fi router and
3G / EDGE / GPRS return channel device
MIMIR™ SERVER, the gateway interconnecting
subscribers, the Internet and the satellite system
FMC™, ForsONEway Management Centre (on Mimir)
provides OSS/BSS and NMS capabilities
SATELLITE PARTNERS Examples
Spacecom, Israeli satellite operator and Systems Integrator, use Forsway’s
modems for their managed service, primarily in Africa
Eutelsat, the third largest satellite operator world wide, co-operate with Forsway in order to fill their satellites with additional IP capacity
SES , the 2nd largest satellite operator, work with us worldwide

ForsONEway for Enhanced xDSL - Examples
SOLUTION BACKGROUND
5-10% of the households in Europe cannot get more than 2 Mbit/s from their xDSL connection
This is about 10 million households
Main reason: local loop cable length
EU’s Digital Agenda set the aim that all European households shall have access to 30 Mbit/s by 2020
The situation is similar in the US
5-10 million households are limited to maximum 2 Mbit/s
The US definition of “real” broadband has already been upgraded to 25 Mbit/s
ForsONEway for Enhanced xDSL - Examples
SOLUTION FORSWAY’S APPROACH Combine existing xDSL connection with satellite to reach
higher maximum bandwidth
Hybrid xDSL + satellite solution
The combined connection shall be completely transparent to the end user
Always use xDSL for low latency traffic
Activate satellite automatically and completely seamless
The satellite part of the connection shall only be used when needed
Satellite cost per GB is higher than for xDSL

xDSL ENHANCED XDSL
ForsONEway can be used to upgrade an existing broadband link with on-demand capacity from satellite
Dynamic routing functionality1. xDSL only
• When bandwidth needs are not exceeding what the xDSL link can provide.
2. xDSL + satellite • When bandwidth needs are exceeding xDSL capacity• Only traffic that cannot be managed by xDSL capacity
is offloaded to satellite
xDSL SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT
Mímir: In ISP backbone All traffic to intended user need to pass through Mímir for routing
Odin: Connected to end-users xDSL modem End user devices are connect to Odin via LAN or WLAN

xDSL BANDWIDTH
Satellite vs. xDSL capacity
80-90% of the total traffic is expected to flow in the xDSL network for a normal user with 2 Mbit/s downlink xDSL capacity
ARPU can be increased by offering broadcast oriented services such as Push VOD
MIMIR OVERVIEW
Mímir a gateway for hybrid services, including all important
functionality for hybrid services:
Asymmetric routing for different return channel and forward
link
Performance Enhancing Proxy for TCP acceleration
Support for several satellite transponders in a network
Security features
ACM support for saving satellite bandwidth
Advanced fair usage policies
Integrated network management system for management and provisioning
Designed for carrier grade availability
Odin is highly optimized as Mímir client
MIMIR ARCHITECTURE & ROUTING
The system supports any type of IP based return channel
The satellite link is used for incoming data
The terrestrial link is used for incoming/outgoing data and as control channel
Different tunnel types are available to work with all networks
