Lego is a line of plastic brick construction toys that are manufactured by the Lego Group, a privately held

company based in Billund, Denmark. The Lego Group began in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen, a

carpenter in Billund. In 1934, his company came to be called “Lego” which means “play well”. Lego had a big sale even in both world wars. Ole's factory got burned, but ion 1947 they started to make it all better. In this

year they started to make plastic toys. In 1949 Lego began producing, among other

new products, an early version of the now familiar interlocking bricks, calling

them “Automatic Binding Bricks” .

Maths- A Challenge

Try, try and try

The more I try,

The more I cry,

I practice maths with my heart and soul,

Yet I am not able to achieve my goal.

I never get marks in maths,

Inspite of my great endeavours

Fate is never in my favour.

I really want to improve my maths,

Because I love this subject,

And for this I am trying my level best.

I am candid so I confess,

In mathematics examination I always create a mess,

all the answers I guess,

And ultimately the marks I get are quite less.

I believe that if I do ample practice,

I’ll one day probably achieve my goal,

And I seriously have to improve,

Because in our lives maths plays a very important role.

SAVE WATER – BY VANI

How to Stay Healthy During COVID 19

Health is a very important aspect of everyone's life. Health is wealth is a very common proverbs given by

Ralph Waldo Emerson which means that when we maintain good health, everything else falls into place.

Healthy and fit people enjoy their lives with great joy and peace. Money may buy all the luxuries in the world,

but it cannot buy good health. Better health is central to human happiness and well being. There is a direct

relationship between the diet, physical activity and health. Nutrition is a key player when it comes to physical,

mental and social well-being. And it is important for preventing disease. One should try to keep regular

routines and maintain a daily schedule which includes sleeping, meals and activities. One should stay

socially connected. Feelings should be shared with the loved ones. Green and fresh vegetables, milk, fresh

fruits, etc. should be taken to remain healthy.

TECHNOLOGY WITH EDUCATION Education is wisdom. Wisdom is knowledge. And nowadays

knowledge is not possible without technology. With time everything changes. Even the ways to impart education have changed. Earlier, our parents and grandparents used to study from just books. But these days we study not only from books but also technological sources like mobiles, laptops, tablets, etc. as per our convenience. Thus, education too has added an essence of technology to itself. Technology is actually very productive if we use it properly. These days during lockdown period, all our school work is coming online and our virtual classroom is also being created on online platforms. Use of technology in education sector was introduced in early 10s. But as the time flew, the use of technology was misused. Many phishing sites took advantage of posting spam mails which in return steals our personal information.

Page 40: Aryan Boora...Maths- A Challenge Try, try and try The more I try, The more I cry, I practice maths with my heart and soul, Yet I am not able to achieve my goal. I never get marks in

The advent of communication technology was welcomed with open arms because it promised advancements in knowledge sharing which in turn would significantly enhance development in all spheres of modern life: commerce, medicine, transportation, construction, and education among others. However, the experience in the 21 century reveals that modern societies were not well prepared for this technology And unfortunately, modern man is currently struggling to rise above the ills of modern technological advancements and seek out more and newer beneficial ways to utilize the wide array of available technology, most prominently,

Page 41: Aryan Boora...Maths- A Challenge Try, try and try The more I try, The more I cry, I practice maths with my heart and soul, Yet I am not able to achieve my goal. I never get marks in

We students are missing our teachers for their scolding and their motivation. The bond that the teacher and pupil carry can’t be replaced by technology. Technology can appreciate only to the extent it has been programmed to. The precious treasure of knowledge that a teacher has is endless. Technology can just provide us with knowledge but cannot motivate us as our teachers. Technology can certainly not replace teachers. At the end I would conclude with. “Technology Cannot Replace Great Teachers, But Technology In The Hands Of Great Teachers Can Be Transformational.” By Nehal Khurana

Ramifications of Child Labour Child labour is the exploitation of children with any form of work which deprives

them of their childhood and /or interferes with their ability to attend regular school and is socially, morally, physically and mentally harmful. Jobs such as manufacturing, mining, domestic help or use of children in armed conflicts comes under this category. Whereas helping parent or earning pocket money after school hours is not child labour. People under 6 – 14 are classified as children. There are various reasons of child labour.

One of its main reasons is poverty. People living below poverty line often rely on child labour to increase their chances of getting basic necessities, so children work as labourers. Lack of education in parents is also one of its cause as they don’t know the importance of education so they send their children to work. Though government has provided free and compulsory education yet it also does not work for most of them as they are made to evade school by their uneducated parents involving them in labour. Lack of stringent checks by government leads to people violating existing laws regarding child labour. In businesses such as manufacturing, and import-export there are multiple layers of work so employers often employ cheap labour in the form of children and the government is not able to trace where child labour is. There are very serious ramifications of child labour.

Page 43: Aryan Boora...Maths- A Challenge Try, try and try The more I try, The more I cry, I practice maths with my heart and soul, Yet I am not able to achieve my goal. I never get marks in

One of the main consequences is further continuation of poverty and illiteracy. Child labour doesn’t yield much money and as mentioned earlier deprives children of education. This implies that the children as adult grow up as poor illiterates hence, creating a vicious cycle of poverty, illiteracy and child labour to get formed and continue. Further these jobs are highly insecure as they involve many professional hazards like the sorters disease. It not only causes the mentioned health hazards but also there is no assurance of permanent job in this unorganised sector. It results in widening the gap between the rich and the poor. The poor get poorer, the rich become richer. Child labour also leads to a shortage of educated and trained professionals. It means poor quality of the human resource of the country which is atrocious for our economy. Our government has taken some steps to check this crime.

Page 44: Aryan Boora...Maths- A Challenge Try, try and try The more I try, The more I cry, I practice maths with my heart and soul, Yet I am not able to achieve my goal. I never get marks in

One of them is The Child Labour Act 2016, which provides mandatory and free education for all children between 6-14 years of age. A national child helpline has also been launched by the government to save children from all sorts of crime and exploitation. Now the government is educating people about child labour and it has now been declared a crime under the law. These steps are certainly commendable but we can’t get satisfied only with this much. There is still lot more to do to stop this heinous crime. More awareness campaigns should be run to spread awareness as it is a big weapon against such social evils. Government must finance organisations who protect and rescue children from such exploitation. Rehabilitation centres should be made to help the victims recover after being rescued from labour sites. More and more NGOs should be encouraged and involved in this task. This will go a long way in ending child labour. BY RAGHAV GARG

MY VISIT TO HAWA MAHAL Hawa Mahal, or the ‘Palace of Winds’ is an iconic landmark of Jaipur, the Pink City of India. It is one of the most famous tourist attractions that see at least 700 tourists visiting it every day. This was told to me by the lady that was manning the tickets counter when I visited this place recently. Jaipur in general and Rajasthan, in particular, is in any case world famous for its rich cultural and architectural history. The Hawa Mahal is the pride of the capital city of Rajasthan. Unique Feature Although not exactly a palace, it looks like one from the street. Hawa Mahal is a five storey building in the heart of Jaipur. It is made of red and pink sandstone (like most buildings of Jaipur) lined with white color to make it vibrant. The structure resembles a beehive. The palace has carved and arched small chhatris or dome-shaped pavilions showing the richness of vivid Rajput architecture. The walls of the palace have 953 jharokhas or overhanging balconies from where cool and fresh air can pass. The most unique aspect about the palace is the fact that at all times a light breeze passes through it. That is how the palace got its name. A tourist guide also informed us that the Hawa Mahal also denotes Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh’s devotion towards Lord Krishna – the design of the palace resembles the crown of the Lord.

Page 48: Aryan Boora...Maths- A Challenge Try, try and try The more I try, The more I cry, I practice maths with my heart and soul, Yet I am not able to achieve my goal. I never get marks in

Several parts of the structure also have small lattice windows, chiseled sandstone grill, and decorated domes. Some of the windows are made of wood. Each jharokha has a small chamber where one can sit and view the street. Fountains at the middle of each chamber complimented well with the light wind flowing through the jharokhas thus enhancing the cooling effect of the chambers. The palace is like a pyramid and has a height of 15m from its base. There are no stairs in the building and top stories can be reached only by ramps. This was done to accommodate the palanquins of the royal ladies. Not many people talk about the archaeological museum within the courtyard of the palace. It has many artifacts that give an idea of the rich past, the cultural heritage and the lifestyle of the Rajputs.

AMAZING FACTS 1. The Eiffel Tower can be 15 cm taller during the summer. Explanation:- When a substance is heated up, its particles move

more and it takes up a larger volume – this is known as thermal expansion. Thus due to thermal expansion the Eiffel Tower is 15 taller during summer.

2. Hawaii moves 7.5cm closer to Alaska every yearExplanation:-The Earth’s crust is split into gigantic pieces called tectonic plates. These plates are in constant motion, propelled by currents in the Earth’s upper mantle. Hot, less-dense rock rises before cooling and sinking, giving rise to circular convection currents which act like giant conveyor belts, slowly shifting the tectonic plates above them. Hawaii sits in the middle of the Pacific Plate, which is slowly drifting north-west towards the North American Plate, back to Alaska.
