Dear Families

The warmer weather has been most welcome with greater opportunities to enjoy outside

learning.

There has been much excitement around the school with students enthusiastically

designing a BMX track for Frances as part of the town development plans that the

Lucindale/Naracoorte Council is currently considering. These include a play space, picnic

table and a shelter as part of a “town square”, a place to gather and belong.

A personal link to this year’s parent engagement survey has been sent to all families via

email / text. This Department coordinated survey replaces previous surveys that were

conducted by the school. All families are strongly urged to complete the survey. Please

contact the school if any assistance is required to access the survey link. Thank you.

Planning is continuing for the transition of Year 7s to high school in 2022. The current

Year 5 students will be the first group of students to move to the secondary setting for

Year 7. Canberra trips will be organised by Naracoorte High School for Year 7s.

Senior students were asked this week whether the SA students should be able to

participate in Sapsasa while the Vic students can’t. These are the responses of the

Victorian students:

I personally think that everyone should be able to participate but not everyone can. Just because Vic students are not allowed to participate, doesn’t mean that SA students shouldn’t. Sometimes life isn’t fair for you, but that doesn’t mean life should be unfair for others as well. If you fall off a cliff and break your leg right before a running race, doesn’t mean everyone should cancel. I think SA students should participate.

I think the SA kids should go to give them an experience because even though the Vics are doing it tough why make the SA kids suffer as well.

I think the SA kids should be able to do athletics because just because we can’t doesn’t mean we have to ruin it for them.

I think the SA kids should go to Sapsasa and try and get in.

I think the SA kids should go because they can go anywhere in Adelaide.

SA kids should be allowed to go. It’s just selfish that they shouldn’t get to go because of us Vic kids. It’s not SA’s fault that Corona is in Vic.

The gracious generosity of the students speaks volumes about their compassion, care,

loyalty, maturity and kindness. They are a credit to their families and a credit to our school.

This term in Science we have been

learning about materials and their

properties as a whole school.

Students have been grouped each

lesson with both Senior and Junior

Class students. Each group has a

Manager (collects materials), Read-

er (reads the question the group

needs to answer), Writer (writes their

collective thoughts down on a mini

whiteboard) and a

Reporter (reports their ideas back to

the class).

Over the term, we have unpacked

a range of scientific vocabulary,

learnt about the different properties

of different materials and how

materials might decompose. For an

experiment, we buried a plastic

container with an apple core and a

piece of fabric in it.

Last Thursday, we dug up the

containers to see what happened

to the materials. Students described

their observations in detail and

many of them had made accurate

predictions!

Minecraft Education Edition:

This term, the Senior Class has made the school in

Minecraft. The aim of this project was to teach students

about volume, area and making things to scale. They were

each put in a group and given something to build. Because

everything had to be to scale, the students first made a

fence to mark the outline of the school grounds, then

measured everything. The scale was 1 Minecraft

block=50cm. After building the outsides of the classrooms

and other buildings, the students did some of the inside décor.

They even made Charlie, the school dog! All in all they

agreed that this project was fantastic, and they have

learned a heap. It was great to see everyone working

together.— Ada Hoctor

Thank you to the Frances Folk Gathering Committee for

the very much appreciated donation of a large quantity of

coloured paper, pencils and craft items.

Hello Families

During Community Hour students have been

reflecting on all of the things they are grateful for.

We painted bricks and built a solid wall of

gratitude to remind ourselves about everything in

our lives that we are thankful for. Last week

students created relationship webs, placing all of

the people they are grateful for in their lives into

a web that holds them securely. We will finish the

term thinking about all of the people who are

grateful for us. Next term students will be

learning about hope and courage.

During this Covid year, keeping a focus on

grateful, hopeful and brave, helps to build

resilience.

As this is the last newsletter for the term, I want

to wish you a very happy holiday and look forward

to seeing everyone back for Term 4.

Blessings,

Xandia,

Building on Friendship and Knowledge

7th September 2020

Dear Families

This year the Department for Education is centrally coordinating the annual parent satisfaction

survey. The survey is available online via our school’s unique survey link. The Department has

forwarded this link directly to families via text message and/or email.

The survey provides an opportunity for the school to receive valuable insights from families about

various aspects of the school’s culture and operations. The questions invite parents to comment on

what we are doing well, where we can improve and what is really important to you as a parent.

The survey is live from today, Monday 7th September and closes on Friday 25 September 2020.

Every family is strongly encouraged to participate in the survey which should take no longer than

ten minutes to complete.

All responses are confidential and only collated feedback will be provided to the school. The re-

sults of the survey can also be included in our annual report.

Further information is available at: www.education.sa.gov.au/parentsurvey

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Kind Regards

Joyce Dinan
