AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FOR KIDS AND ADULTSLearn vocabulary words, finger spelling, common everyday words, and conversational skills. Discover the importance of facial/body language and be exposed to aspects of deaf culture.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE - PARENT AND MEAges 3 and underBabies and Toddlers can learn to communicate with their parents before they can speak! Sign language is an effective approach to introduce the concept of language to children at an early stage in development.

PICTURE ME READING!Grades K - 3A six-week program for beginning and struggling readers that teaches the critical sight words necessary for reading success. Dr. Marlys Isaacson’s unique “Picture Me Reading!” method rapidly increases word recognition, fluency and self-confidence. Permission to enroll based on reading assessment. FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS The Family Resource Center collaborates with local organizations to provide FREE educational classes. These classes are scheduled on – going throughout the year. MASTER YOUR MONEY The Family Resource Center collaborates with local organizations to provide FREE financial education classes. Classes are designed to achieve the following outcomes: improved credit scores, reduction in debt, knowledge increase, tax information, increased savings, and opening or maintenance of bank accounts. Must be 18 years or older. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion.

UNEMPLOYMENT SUPPORT Come meet weekly with others that not only share your situation but care about turning things around. Meet with individuals and share resources, experiences, and overall knowledge about job searching, interviewing, and staying positive! This is an ongoing, weekly group.

WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT The Family Resource Center is offering a weekly empowerment group for women who reside within the Kroc Center’s surrounding community. Involves group participation, networking, emotional support, and group participation in activities on campus. This is an ongoing, weekly group.

NUTRITION EDUCATION This class is designed to promote healthy eating and food preparation for parents and guardians with children 5 and under. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion. This course is offered as five, weekly one-hour sessions.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) The Family Resource Center offers ESL classes in collaboration with Laubach Literacy. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion. This course is offered twice a week, every week. Life Options provides an opportunity for individuals age 55 and over to remain positively engaged in their communities while exploring educational, social and volunteer experiences. PRACTICAL THEATER CLASS A senior theater class taught by a professional through San Diego Community College Continuing Education. Students are given scripts, pair up, and do rehearsal homework. For beginning and intermediate level actors.

BRAIN FITNESS The Brain Fitness Program Is a workout for the brain featuring six computer- based exercises. The exercises target roots of cognitive function that improve processing speed, working and narrative memory and sound discrimination, precision and sequencing. Arts and literacy come together for a fun and engaging series of evenings. Each night features a themed presentation by one of San Diego’s premiere cultural institutions and an interactive art project from Young Audiences. Each family takes home a free book related to the evening’s theme! Takes place in the Education Center Multipurpose Room unless otherwise noted.

Students will be invited to participate in our winter dance recital to be held in our beautiful Joan B. Kroc Worship Theatre.

BALLETBallet shoes and leotards are required for Ballet II and above. For recital purposes, please purchase pink ballet shoes for girls and black ballet shoes for boys.

BALLET/JAZZ COMBOBeginning ballet and jazz taught through the use of imagery and repetition. The dancer will learn dance positions and terminology; while increasing their coordination, strength and flexibility. Dancer will also increase spatial awareness.

DANCE WORKSHOP Ages 16+ For teens/adults who aren’t faint of heart. Previous dancers who would like an outlet to release their passion for the artistry of dance, come join us. Students will be creating a complete body of work with all forms of dance involved. Performance piece will focus on “A Day in Notre Dame”.

All classes are eight weeks in length, unless otherwise noted. No classes will be held on holidays; fees will be prorated accordingly. BREAK DANCE Ages 12 - 16 Students learn basic break dancing technique including foot work, uprock and power moves.

BROADWAY BABIESAges 4 - 8 Have fun learning techniques to improve natural acting ability. This is a great introduction into the world of singing, dancing and acting for stage; and a wonderful place to learn self-expression!

ADULT CONTEMPORARY/MODERN DANCE Ages 18+Adults will use beginning steps to form an artistic style of movement. The class will be centered around anatomical safety, as well as using ones own enthusiasm for movement to increase range of personal expression.

HIP HOP Ages 8 - 13 Students will be taken on a wonderful journey with all the latest Hip Hop moves.

JAZZ IAges 6 - 10Dancers will learn jazz terminology as well as rhythmic accents, turns, jumps, and choreography. Practice the pattern of center warm up, core strengthening, center stretching, across the floor turns, and jumps.

LINE DANCINGAges 18 and overCome kick up your skirts and stomp your feet with some good ole fashion Line Dancing. We will focus on newly created line dances with traditional movements and stylized line dances that you’ll see in the Country Clubs. Boots and Cowboy Hats Welcome!! PILATES FOR DANCERSAges 16 and overUsing Body Arts and Science International matwork, the class will focus on concepts related to dance. Through beginning and intermediate movement we will be correcting alignment, increasing balance, strength, and flexibility.

SING, SIGN, BOOGIE!Ages 2 - 4Start up that little engine and get those motor skills going! Toddlers will enjoy signing with their hands and dancing with their feet. A fun way to develop coordination and language through music and play.

TAPPERS & MOVERSAges 3-5Tap those toes and stomp those heels! Tots interested in tap and hip-hop like instruction come check out this class. The first half hour is focused on tap and the second on very basic hip-hop moves. See what magic your little one’s can create!

LIFE OPTIONSTHEATER

ACTING IAges 8-13Students will work on monologues, scenes, and performance organization. Lessons on improve, enunciation, projection, abolishing stage fright, and audition prep are also included. Students will be engaged in fun activities concentrating on working as a group which will later come into use onstage. July- August session only.

BROADWAY DANCEAges 6-10/10+A combination of dance styles commonly used in musical theatre. Learn musical theatre choreography and combinations while dancing to popular Broadway show tunes. Learn the movements necessary for musical theatre auditions from a professional choreographer.

MONOLOGUE/AUDITION TUTELAGE Ages 8-16 Focus on individual development as an actor/actress to enhance performance capabilities. PLAYWORKS Ages 13+ Create and perform a One Act Play and get a chance to try your hand at directing.

YOGA AND ARTAges 9 - 12This class will be a combination of yoga moves and making art. The first half of each class we will do yoga, the second half will focus on an art project, using different materials and a new concept each time.

MY SHAPES MAKE ART Ages 5 - 8Learn the basic essentials of art by using well-known shapes to create each piece with painting, drawing, and mixed media techniques. Each session has a different theme.

TODDLER ART TALES Ages 3 - 5Bring little ones to our cozy library and enjoy stories, rhymes, and puppetry followed by a fun art project related to the day’s theme!Session Fee: $30 Members/ $40 Guests

ECO-FRIENDLY ARTAges 6-12A fun class encouraging students to be creative as they work with recycled materials to create wonderful works of art, beautifying the environment while helping it.Session Fee: $30 Members/ $40 Guests
