Richard Strauss’ scandalously opulent 1905 setting of Oscar Wilde’s play has lost none of its power to shock and seduce.

British dramatic soprano Allison Oakes stars as the depraved teenage princess who demands the head of John the Baptist on a silver platter. American tenor Allan Glassman makes his Cape Town Opera debut as her lecherous stepfather Herod, with local favourites Violina Anguelov and Lukhanyo Moyake appearing as Herodias and Narraboth.

Mbuzeni The Girls

Tells the story of four little girl orphans and their fi xation with the dead. The story takes place in a tiny village. The only cemetery that exists separates the villagers from the orphans’ dwelling. Here, there are rules and regulations for how to conduct burials, rules which are monitored and constantly reinforced. The girls continue to defy these rules and their defi ance comes at a price, one they are made to pay.

The Girls deals with the abduction of school girls in the north of Uganda by a rebel army, the LRA, under leadership of Joseph Kony. It tells the true story about the abduction of the 149 schoolgirls from Aboke. One of the abducted girls and one of the child soldiers escape and try to fi nd their way back home. When in 2014 again school girls were abducted in Nigeria by Boko Haram, the producers of The Girls realise nothing changed and will not change unless we keep telling real stories and bringing those who are aff ected to life on stage. That is what The Girls does. An international award winner. It won awards in Europe (the Netherlands), Uganda and last year a standing ovation award at NAF in Grahamstown.

A long time ago, in a little house on the edge of a wood, lived a Hare, a squirrel and a Little Grey Rabbit.

The Hare was a conceited fellow. The Squirrel was proud, but Little Grey Rabbit was kind and thoughtful and took good care of them both.

One day a weasel moved into the forest and captured the Squirrel and hare. Please join us and help Little Grey Rabbit rescue her friends.

Ntsiki Sigege’s book ‘A Broken Wing’ is adapted and presented theatrically though monologues.

Two profound women who have gone through the experience of painful divorces, coming from diff erent provinces, cultural groups and religious backgrounds, meet under the strangest of circumstances to discover that they share one thing in common; they both have been badly hurt, lost and raising three sets of kids each.

What makes this a must come and watch show is that their stories, told through theatre and a musical resonates with what the spiritual festival is all about. It is about pain, the journey, healing and moving on.

Around The Fire Die Woorde (Amazwi)

In this unique fusion of theatre, poetry and live music, a uniquely South African story unfolds.

Four women with very different backgrounds, Mbali, Faiza, Amber and Angel, find themselves sharing a makeshift fire on a rainy Cape Town evening. Brought together by unexpected circumstances, they form a bond as fierce and temporary as the fire. Mbali, the homeless guardian of the fire, and Eastern Cape ‘refugee’, unravels the stories that brought them there, trying to make sense of her own place in a city that renders her invisible.

La Bohème in District Six La Bohème means “The Bohemians” and District Six was well known for its Bohemian atmosphere, a place where South African artists of all colours and religions could mix freely to share ideas and grow a collective culture in opposition to the Apartheid regime.

La Bohème in District Six honours and celebrates the heritage of this important South African space and era through the lens of a classic opera storyline by Puccini.

Katie se storie is nie uniek nie. Of haar liefde vir geskiedenis?

Dis lewenswysheid verpak in ‘n humor houer.
