Hampton Daze Magazine had the pleasure of hosting a delightful tea party recently using Chambre De Sucre, an elite, high quality sugar company derived from Japan. The brand was founded by Lisa Kuzinaki, who expresses that the sugars have been in her family for many generations. Lisa has perfected these delicious handcrafted sugars and imported them to the United States for luxury spas, hotels, specialty stores and at events for guests to enjoy. Chambre de Sucre has expanded into a line of delicious teas. I had the pleasure of interviewing her and learning more about this amazing business:

Your brand, Chambre de Sucre, began as a sugar business for you, is this correct?

I started Chambre de Sucre three years ago. I import handcrafted gourmet sugars from Japan that are used for coffee and tea. We are a 270 year old, 17 generation deep, family owned business. My inspiration is my grandmother, whom I visited every summer in Japan growing up. She served these sugars

Tea With The Queen Of Artisanal Gourmet Sugarand I learned that it is so simple to make your everyday coffee and tea special and elegant. As my company has grown, I've added a hand blended tea line. What kind of teas do you produce and do you have a favorite?

I hand blend my own teas and they are each inspired by members of my family. They are actually named and numbered after my family. I currently have seven teas - a green rooibos, pu'erh, white, green, black, a tisane and an oolong. I love them all equally, but I have a special place in my heart for pu'erhs, so I'd have to say my Chocolat et Fraise, a pu'erh blended with hand shaven chocolate curls and dried strawberries. I even numbered that one after myself.

Where do you want to

see Chambre de Sucre in 10 years?

I'd love to have a storefront with maybe even an attached café. Something truly unique, elegant, and simple. I'd love it to be designed by a Japanese architect and I'd love the menu to be inspired by Japanese

cafés and tea rooms. In 10 years I hope to expand my team and territory. I would love to see them in Canada, UK, France and Germany--just to name a few.

Your sugars and t eas a re b e a u t i f u l l y packaged in such detail, where do we find them?

You can find our sugars in New York City at Todd English's The Plaza Food Hall as well as in the Dean & Deluca s tores. You can also find us nationwide in 40 HomeGoods stores. Paddlers for Humanity Paddlers for Humanity, a Hamptons

not-for-profit that donates to children and youth charities, is putting a spin on its traditional fundraisers with the inaugural Montauk Brewathalon to be held on October 20. The event will begin at the Montauk Brewery at 1 PM. Participants will recruit two, four or five person teams to complete five legs of the race. Each team will need a starting chugger, a 5K runner, a 1.5-mile paddler, a 25K biker and an ending chugger. Chuggers may not compete in the run, paddle or bike portion of the event. There must be one female participant on each team. The top three teams will receive a prize.

There is a $250 participation fee for each team, which includes a race shirt, pint glass and beer tasting. All proceeds will be donated to various organizations focused on bettering the lives of children and youth.

Today’s Birthday: Julius Henry Marx, 1890

Growing up on the tough, Upper East Side of Manhattan, young Julius dreamed of becoming a doctor, but his mother Minnie had other ideas. As usual, mother knew best – she pushed her five sons into show business.

Julius, Milton, and Adolph went out on tour as a singing group -- they didn’t find the going easy. As a singing act, the group learned early on audiences didn’t appreciate their limited talents. But, young Groucho noticed, their onstage banter drew laughs at every stop.

The three oldest brothers reinvented themselves as ethnic comedians. Leonard, the oldest, became Chico and parodied Italians; Arthur took on the persona of “Patsie Brannigan,” an Irishman, and wore a shocking red-haired wig. He was a gifted slapstick comedian, and since he was uncomfortable speaking in public, it was decided he would be a mime named Harpo in the act.

Julius at first took on a German persona, but the many Germans living in New York took umbrage to his portrayals, so he became Groucho, the loveable crank. He would maintain that persona for the rest of his life.

The Marx Brothers became wildly successful, playing the Palace Theatre to sold out crowds and along the way adding their two other brothers, Milton (Gummo) and Herbert (Zeppo) to some skits.

The act became a staple on Broadway; each show garnered rave reviews. When sound was added to the movies, those plays were put on film, including Animal Crackers, Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, Duck Soup, and A Night At The Opera. The brothers made 13 movies in all.

Groucho embarked on a solo career, and was chosen to host the radio show “You Bet Your Life” in 1947. It was hugely popular, and broadcast on TV for 11 years beginning in 1950.

Throughout his career Groucho used the greasepaint mustache and eyebrows and oversized horn-rimmed glasses he had donned long ago. Legend has it he was impossible to recognize without the make-up and used to appear at gatherings where his name was brought up in conversation, and even discuss himself in the third person.

Groucho lived to be 87, some said a young Svengali-like girlfriend, Erin Fleming, pushed him too hard. Other friends said she rejuvenated him and made his last days happy ones.

Groucho kept his wicked wit throughout, coining dozens of one-liners that are widely used today, including “Women should be obscene and not heard,” and “A man’s only as old as the woman he feels.”

Gravity (PG-13) And here come the Oscar contenders. This thriller pairs Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney who get stranded in space when a routine space walk goes awry. The respected Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron out does himself; the camera work itself is Oscar-worthy. This may be the most visually stunning film since Avatar, and the storyline is so suspenseful, audiences are spellbound. Easily the best film of the year thus far.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 (PG-13) A lot of folks liked the first effort – we didn’t. Most everyone agrees the sequel is too much of a mediocre offering. Still, there are worse things to do for parents with kids on a cold, Saturday afternoon.

was mildly disappointing in the box office, but the spills and chills play very well in the living room. Add a

star if you are into Brad Pitt and, yes, he’s quite good in this.

director Nicole Holocener’s tender, sitcom-like portrait of two empty-nesters coming together is getting a lot of attention because it was James Gandolfini’s final role. But it stands on its own merits and the chemistry between Gandolfini and Julia-Louis Dreyfus is genuine. Catherine Keener co-stars. This film has “hit” written all over it.

Rush (R) Director Ron Howard, a two-time Oscar winner, pans for gold again with this sleek, high tech recreation of the 1970s Formula One rivalry between James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl). Oscar pedigree is everywhere: The writer, Peter Morgan, is a two-time nominee, and the producers have a slew of statues. It is a riveting tale of an exotic world

where death lurks a moment away. Olivia Wilde leads a formidable cast of co-stars.

Thanks For Sharing (R) Our own Gwyneth Paltrow co-stars in this winning dramedy about men who cope with their neuroses, and how it affects their relationships. Mark Ruffalo plays off Paltrow and the pair light up the screen. Tim Robbins, Josh Gad, and Patrick Fugit play the other “guys” with aplomb. The director Stuart Blumberg has fashioned an adult film that isn’t gross, silly, or maudlin – and in this day and age that’s quite an achievement.

Hell Baby (R) This comedic take on the old haunted house genre is sometimes funny, too often sickening, and improvised to the point of embarrassment. We found ourselves rooting for the demons. Rob Corddry goes down with the ship.

Jayne Mansfield’s Car (R) Billy Bob Thornton, who wrote, directed, and starred in Sling Blade, once again attracts an A-list of actors for his latest effort. Set in 1969, it is the story of two families that come together for a funeral. Robert Duvall, John Hurt, and a very scruffy Kevin Bacon give genuine performances, and, like Sling Blade, Thornton’s quirkiness and originality often shine through. Give it a try.

Ingredients (serves 4)8 red beets (medium size)

1 10 oz bag of baby arugula2 oranges (juiced)

zest from 1/2 an orange1 c walnuts

2 tbsp coriander seed1 c blended oil

1 tsp Dijon mustard3 shallots

Beet Carpaccio With Arugula Salad & Toasted Coriander

Orange Vinaigrette1/4 c olive oil

1/3 c all purpose flours

MethodFirst fill a large pot with cold

water and a pinch of salt. Place the beets in the pot and boil for about an hour. While the beets are cooking, set the oven to 375 and lightly toast the walnuts for 7 minutes, then set

aside to cool.Slice two of the shallots into rings,

dust them in the flour, and fry in a saute pan on medium heat with the olive oil for 3 minutes. Set them on a paper towel to dry.

For the dressing: Toast the coriander seed in the oven at 375 degrees for 5 minutes, then allow it to cool and use a spice or coffee grinder to grind the seeds. In a blender cup add 1 shallot, mustard, ground coriander, and the juice from the oranges. While blending these ingredients slowly add the blended oil until you have reach a thick emulsified dressing. At the end you

can mix in some salt and pepper to taste as well as the orange zest.

When the beets have finished cooking, remove them from the hot water and let them cool in the fridge for at least an hour. When the beets have cooled, peel off the skin under cold running water. Cut thin uniform slices of beet and layer them in a circular pattern.

In a mixing bowl add the arugula, walnuts, and a bit of the dressing and mix together. Put a little salad in the middle of each plate lined with the beet carpaccio.

Top with the crispy fried shallot rings and enjoy.

with theMOVIEPROJECT into October on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings beginning at dusk. A large projector screen situated inside the lounge by the fireplace will show different films each night according to a theme selected by a guest curator. A cinematic specialty cocktail will be featured each week in addition to complimentary popcorn. On Monday evenings guests are invited to meet each week’s curator.

“family night” dinner every Sunday from 4 PM to close. The dinner feeds two to four adults or two adults and two to three children. It includes a large house salad with mesclun greens and balsamic vinaigrette to start, a choice of one whole pan roasted Raleigh Farms organic chicken with fresh rosemary and pan gravy or one pound of Merlot barbeque braised all natural boneless beef short ribs with Pinot Noir sauce and three large sides of honey glazed local organic carrots, local organic string beans sautéed with garlic, shallots and fennel and roasted garlic whipped potatoes. Cost is $59, plus tax and gratuity.
