About Artiscycle:
The Artiscycle project is collecting stories, ideas andtools from artists, designers and citizens at the fore- front of collaborative and interdisciplinary art prac- tice. The idea is to create a dialogue between commu- nities in need and creative solutions from artists anddesigners around the world.
The goal of the Artiscycle project is to connect artistsand citizens to collaborative education and project development tools and motivate a new way of think- ing about art as a tool for creative problem solvingand learning.

The Artiscycle project will document ef-fective examples of artistic practices thatcan serve as models for educational andproject development tools. The docu-mentation process will result in:
4 Case Studies4 Interviews4 Video/Photo Documentation
Through the documentation process -the Artiscycle project will gather input anddata from a broad spectrum of organiza-tions, artists, designers, institutions andart collectives. The objective is to identifycommonalities and patterns in approach, delivery and implementation of speci cart practices. These will serve as modelsand frameworks to use in developing acomprehensive online database and aseries of effective tools for particpants.
The Artiscycle project will be conductingapplied research that will aid in translat-ing artistic practices into frameworks foreducation and creative problem solving.
Primary research areas include:
Applied Aesthetics - Aesthetics aretypically concerned with beauty, artisticimpact, or appearance. Applied aesthet-ics are creative practices that addresssocio-cultural issues and effectively bringattention to or in uence the patternsand routines that have attributed to ourdecline ecologically, economically andculturally.
Situated Learning - A conceptpioneered by Jean Lave and EtienneWegner that frames learning as a socialprocess whereby knowledge is co-con-structed through activity and knowingwithin a community of practice.
In tangent with documentation and re-search, the Artiscycle project will developcrucial partnerships with similarly alignedorganizations and institutions. The goal isto avoid recreating any existing projectsand to be as inclusive as possible. Thisoutreach will be used to gather input andsuggestions for the development of the
Artscycle database and the project as awhole.
Organizations, artists and individuals willbe given the opportunity to become fea-tured members of the Artiscycle network which will eventually create a collabora-tive network of artists, designers, educa-tors and citizens interested in harnessingapplied aesthetics to creatively solveproblems or attend to emergent commu-nity challenges.

I cant engage my community. Howdo I visualize this for my students? My neighborhood is being gentrifed. Howdo I get a local policy enacted?
Every good project or initiative startswith a great question or problem. TheArtiscycle platform is a creative take onproblem solving - using art as a frame-work for solutions. Participants whenlogged onto the Artiscycle platform will
rst choose a focus area based on theirproblem or question. This will link theminto Artiscycles evolving database of examples and project pro les.

Start with a problem or question:
The strategies and frameworks behindthe accessed examples of aestheticpractice are presented to the partici-pant.
The platform identi es patterns in ap -proach, delivery and outcome from theaesthetic practices identi ed through thedatabase. Participants can generate areport based on their focus area - out-lining effective frameworks to initiate
and achieve an objective. This providesparticipants a blueprint of strategies andmethodologies that can be used to de-velop projects and education programs.

Education
Educators, artists and citizens are de-manding now more than ever, effectivetools to address social problems. Diversegroups from the education, non-pro t/ NGO, and art worlds need alternativemethods to initiate positive change thatinclude students in their communities.
Artiscycle is responding to this demandby providing those tools.
The Artiscycle project will develop cur-
ricular resources to be used in K-12settings and seek to incubate innovativepilot projects with educators. The projectwill also generate strategy guides thatattend to common problem areas like sci-ence enrichment, literacy, math skills andenvironmental science - giving teachersalternative approaches and models touse backed by case studies and provenexamples featured in the Artiscycle da-tabase. The tools are meant to incubateprojects that use applied aesthetics asa path to get students outside, think-ing critically and re-connecting with theircommunities.
Artiscycle will develop educational
tools that help participants use art asa tool to empower and re-connect their students to local community.
Project Development
The Artiscycle project developmenttoolkit will provide users a series of download-able checklists and strategicmethodologies that help participantsdevelop a framework for their project andattend to common barriers like a lack of local resources, understanding of fundingmechanisms and the overall approachthat will be most effective.
The toolkit will rst help participants focusthe intention and scope of their project.Next, a list of strategies and methodswill be presented to help the participantchoose an appropriate delivery methodbased on their database search results. Finally, an implementation strategy willbe developed for each project, includingtools for documentation, reproductionand assessment.
Upon completion of their project the par-ticipants will be able to add to and searchthe evolving Artiscycle Database.
Artiscycle will create useful project
development tools for artists, organiza- tions and citizens to develop projectsthat engage audiences through art.
Collaboration
Artiscycle will provide communicationplatforms to encourage collaboration, feedback and the exchange of informa-tion between the various projects thathave been initiated and shown throughthe Artiscycle platform.
A project pro le section will allow par -ticipants to post information about theirproject. A request for collaboration forumwill be provided to link educators, citizensand artists through common projectgoals.
The community aspect of the platformwill be an evolving part of the Artiscyclenetwork as usership expands, so willthe need for communication. Harness-ing a social-networking model Artiscyclewill create a community around the ideaof collaborative project development, exchange of skills and knowledge toeffectively incubate projects for positivechange.
Collaboration tools and mechanisms
will be created through the Artiscycle platform.
