HOW IT ALL BEGAN

In 2006 we set out to make artificial grass, which was previously only used for sports pitches, available for residential and ornamental purposes. We were fascinated with the product’s advantages. It is easy to install, affordable and requires hardly any maintenance. In a nutshell, it’s the perfect way to enhance both interior and exterior spaces. Artificial grass allows you to enjoy the benefits of green surroundings any time of the year. It never lets you down.

In 2015, we decided to produce all our artificial grass in Europe, so as to have full control of the entire value chain. We voluntarily have our products certified by the independent and accredited Labosport laboratory.

The Exelgreen team is made up of enthusiastic experts who truly appreciate the beauty of our products and are passionate about what they do. Hence our motto, ‘Artificial grass lovers’- ‘Les amoureux du gazon synthétique’ in French.

Exelgreen has been supporting the NGO Action Against Hunger since 2012.In 2019, Exelgreen will be funding a drinking water supply system that will give 60 communities in the Parasi district in Nepal access to drinking water. We feel this is a logical choice, because the water we save here should be used where it is truly needed.

THE EXELGREEN QUALITY

WHAT ARE THE FPI TESTS?The Fibre Performance Index (FPI) is an objective measure of the performance and quality of ornamental artificial grass issued by the independent and accredited Labosport laboratory.

This index is based on three qualities: long-term durability (e.g. resistance to treading or UV rays), a realistic feel like natural grass and compliance with environmental standards.

The properties of our artificial grass, including resilience, softness and comfort, have been verified by an independent, accredited laboratory. At Exelgreen quality also means aesthetic excellence, which has made us market leaders.

CERTIFIED ARTIFICIAL GRASS

We love to substantiate our arguments with evidence. That is why our artificial grass underwent the FPI tests (Fibre Performance Index), which were conducted by Labosport (see text box).

The standard market tests rate water permeability, tear resistance and UV resistance. REACH certification has been obligatory since the introduction of the eponymous European regulation in 2007. It guarantees that all artificial grass sold in Europe does not contain any heavy metals.

At Exelgreen we go one step further.Our products are subject to 11 assessment criteria:

Until now, the long blades of our artificial grass were made of a single yarn. The 3D yarn, a technical innovation launched by Exelgreen, is a combination of three long yarns of different thicknesses, width and shapes. This asymmetry lies at the core of the beauty of nature. After all, everything in nature is asymmetrical, from faces to landscapes.

Use: To straighten the yarns of artificial grass once it

has been installed or used.

INSTALLATION GUIDE

1 LAY THE GRASS

• Unroll all the grass strips in the same direction.

• Adjust them so that they cover the entire surface.

PREPARATION OF (SOFT) SURFACES

• Make sure the surface has been weeded beforehand.

• Break up any lumps. Remove any debris and roots.

If the soil is difficult to clear, water the surface.

• Cover the surface with sand to fill up any holes and even it out.

• Compact it either by hand or with a vibratory plate.

• Level the surface to ensure it is perfectly flat, or, if this proves

impossible, smoothen it.

• Unroll the geotextile, starting along the edge of the surface.

Ensure you cover the entire surface to prevent weeds from

growing.

• Place the strips, superimposing them by approx. 5 cm.

• Staple the geotextile.

INSTALLATION ON A TERRACE OR BALCONY

An even easier process: simply weed the surface,

remove any debris and sweep. The surface must be

clean and dry.

IDENTIFY THE LAYING DIRECTION

The artificial grass blades always naturally fall in a

certain direction. For a natural look, the blades should face the

place from where you will be looking at your lawn the most. The

effect will be more streamlined if the grass strips are all installed

facing the same direction.

2 PREPARE THE JOINTS

• Cut the edge of each strip between two yarn seams.

• Place the strips next to one another, so that the edges are perfectly aligned.

3 CUT THE OUTER EDGES

• At this stage, the grass should have its final look (except for brushing).

4 CREATE THE JOINTS

• Place some joint tape in the middle of the two grass strips

and remove the protective strip.

• Press down the two grass strips. They should join seamlessly.

• Press them down to ensure the grass sticks to the protective

strip.

5 FIX THE EDGES

• On a soft surface, use a staple every metre.

• On a hard surface, use double-sided tape every metre.

6 FINISHING

• Brush the grass with a hard-bristled broom or an electric

power brush for artificial grass. Always brush in the opposite

direction to that of the yarns.

If there is snow or ice on your lawn:If possible, allow the snow and ice to melt naturally. If you can’t wait to use your artificial grass, comply with the following instructions.

To lift the fibres and gua-rantee optimal drainage, use a hard-bristled nylon broom (construction site broom) or an electric power brush.

Anti-moss and anti-weed treatment:

Choose a preventive spray treatment and follow the instructions for use.

As an anti-moss treatment, we recommend, for exa-mple: Dimanin A, Dimanin Spécial by Bayer or similar products.

Make sure you never use acid-based liquids (e.g. bleaching agents or sodium hypochlorite).

On softsurfaces

Brush your artificial grass regularly.

On hard surfaces

Vacuum.

STICKY OR WET SNOW

Take a small rubber shovel (avoid wood, metal or any other rigid material).

Remove the snow one layer at a time. The blade should merely brush the surface of the grass.

Make sure it does not pass through the backing.

Finally, remove any remaining snow with a blower.

POWDERY SNOW

ICE

Repeatedly run a broom or blower over the grass, always moving it in the same direction.

If the layer is thin: break it up with a small roller (not too heavy), then sweep up the pieces.

If the layer is thick: only specialised chemical products will allow you to rapidly deal with it. Remember to rinse off your lawn as soon as the weather permits to eliminate any chemical residue and maintain it in top condition.

Avoid greasy, abrasive or acid products (e.g. oil, petrol, car battery acid etc.).

CLEANING GUIDE

As a general rule, artificial grass shampoo is the best cleaner. It removes dust, pollen and air-borne pollutants. To water your grass, use clean water and spread it evenly without saturating the grass with water; never use water from a polluted source.

Beer, blood, chocolate, coffee, cola, fruit juice, soft drinks, glue, ice cream, milk, mus-tard, tomato sauce, tea, urine, etc.

Brush the residue using a hard-bristled brush.

Rub using tepid soapy water or a non-abrasive household detergent.

Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Wipe the grass using dry and clean ab-sorbent paper towels.

Remove any solid waste with a spatula.

Clean any remaining marks with soapy water.

Dab the liquid with a cloth.

NON-AQUEOUS Use diluted ammonia (3%).

OIL-BASED

Others: crayon, cooking oil, wax polish, suntan oil, ink, etc.

Dab with perchloroethylene.

Dry with an absorbent paper towel.

Caution: make sure you properly ventilate the area and avoid any sources of heat.

Scrape the stain and dab with perchlo-roethylene.

Dab with paint remover (e.g. turpentine).

Apply perchloroethylene.

Repeat these steps if necessary.

Scrape of the paraffin and dab with perchloroethylene.

Dab with a mixture of white vinegar and water, mixed in equal parts.

Thoroughly rinse with water.

Spray with a freon aerosol or apply dry ice.

Scrape off the residue with a cloth.

Use a biocide.

Caution: beware of pressurised water sprays which could damage your grass.
