Hope to have the Twin Leading Shoe brakes into the Arrow and Leader before next meeting – many thanks to Tony Farmer who has worked hard on getting them completed. Anyone looking for a BMW Project bike (K75 750cc 3 cylinder) give me a call, mine has developed a terrible noise in the engine! Arthur

CHANCELLOR'S PREAMBLE

Guten Morgen, Guten Tag, or Guten Nacht to Britannien Zwei Strocke Clubben of Australien Memberes. Why is your President writing his notes in the German language rather than the more usual Australian/English?

Because one of the activities aboard the Scenic Ruby was a one hour lesson in speaking German. Only the basics mind you, so that the majority Australian passengers could say "good morning" or "good day" as well as "thank you" to the shop assistants and other natives we encountered on the off-boat excursions. The 14 day cruise of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers travelled through Holland ,Belgium, Germany, France and Switzerland as well as Luxembourg. For me the highlight of the trip was a visit to Hockenheimring, the Formula 1 race track (as well as other races). Here we were bussed to the track where we inspected their museum as well as the grandstands, pits, and control room. Their museum as expected was well stocked with racing cars and motorcycles but also with non racing motorcycles as well. One surprise was two examples of the British made Mercury-Scott made in Yorkshire by a small group of enthusiasts headed by Mr.Laurie Jenks. It's incredible that two of these machines have ended up at the Hockenhiemring museum as only five of these machines were built during the 1930s.

Prior to the Scenic Cruise we spent two weeks in England meeting up with the friends I visited when I was there five years ago. Whilst in England I was sent to Coventry or more correctly I sent myself to Coventry, to the Coventry Museum of Transport where they display the history of the Coventry bicycle, Motor cycle and automobile industry. They specialise in Rootes Group (Hillman, Humber, Singer, Sunbeam & Simca) as well as Triumph,Rudge Whitworth and Francis Barnett . Unfortunately when I visited the Museum was undergoing refurbishment and the motorcycle section was closed. I was able to get a look through a semi open door to view the collection. The only vehicles being made in Coventry now are the famous London Taxis. Another Museum visited was the Black Country Museum at Dudley. This museum is dedicated to "the black country" around Wolverhampton and featured mainly AJS in its motorcycle collection. This museum is an open air museum similar to Sovereign Hill and Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement. Their collections include trams, trolley buses, double decker buses, all in running order. There is also a recreation of the first steam powered pumping engine ever built. We also had a cultural day visiting William Shakespeare’s birth place at Stratford upon Avon.

You may have noticed I haven't mentioned anything about the last Club Meetings and events. I am leaving this to Vice President Ian as he chaired the two meetings in my absence. Many thanks Ian. I will say Ausfahrt at this point and look forward to meeting as many members as possible at the October meeting at Greg and Robyn's alternative abode at Blackwood. " Keep Calm and Carry On". Neil.

Vice President’s report

VP or VB Report.

G’day fellow bikers. It seems this month is a busy one for me and Sally, not in motorcycle matters but after 32 years

of living at Ferntree Gully we have sold the family home and are moving to scenic Launching Place. With 1/2 an acre

of land , bigger house and an excellent BBQ area it will be the ideal place for motorcyclists to congregate.(I thought

when all the kids moved out you downsized). Who knows we may form the Yarra Valley chapter of the club.

Getting back to business, the AGM at Allan and Anne Scoble's was, as always a great success.

This being the first meeting of the club that I chaired seemed to go well.

A one minutes silence was observed for late friend Ray Kelly.

The new committee was elected and surprise, surprise. It is the same as last year.

The December meeting is to be held at the Red Plate Cafe, located in the main street of Yea.

There is a cost to you, but the club is kicking in some of it. But I am told that it’s a good place to eat.

The owner of the cafe is a motorcycle enthusiast so a good days ride should be capped with a warm welcome at the

cafe.

On to next year, planning for the Halls gap weekend away is coming along well. This should be a top weekend of

riding and drinking.

To finish off, Keep those two strokes running and get some wind in ya face.

Ian Barber

Vice President.

Blackwood Ride and Meeting, BTSCA Red Plate Event 2014

18 -19 October

BTSCA Meeting is on Sunday 19 October. A tour in the surrounding countryside on Saturday has been organized for

anyone who is interested. Also, there will be a short ride on Sunday morning, arriving back at our cottage in time for

the bbq & meeting commencing midday.

Robyn and I will be at our cottage at Barry’s Reef (directions below) Friday so if anyone wants to come and stay they

are more than welcome.

The cottage measures 20’ x 20’ and is quite cosy. All floor space has been booked, but the verandah is free.

Camping sites are available on the block, some sites slope less than others with level sites rare! BYO everything. We

do have a BBQ for cooking purposes, or there is the woodstove inside. Weather has been known to be somewhat

changeable but should be OK for that time of the year. Hopefully it won’t rain but if it does then we’ll get wet! The

snow season is well & truly over but it can still be very cold at times. Evenings can be very cool, so be prepared. If

you want to book accommodation, the pub has 2 Motel units, ph 5368 6501, or there is the caravan park at the

mineral springs at Blackwood ph 5368 6539, but you would need to do this yourself.

This is to be a laid-back, low-key weekend. Once again a meal at the pub Saturday night will be the go, followed by

the obligatory ‘2 stubbie stroll’ back to the cottage for a campfire up the back (depending on weather conditions).

Once again, we will hire a ‘portable’ loo as our loo isn’t up to the task, being a porta potti.

Petrol is available at the garage cnr Market & Victoria Streets in Trentham.

Melways ref map 609 E10 (Barry’s Reef)

Vic Roads Country ref map 59 F9

Club banner will be on display next to the driveway.

From Melbourne, the cottage (painted white & set back from the road) is located 1.5km along the Greendale

Trentham Road from the turnoff at Blackwood and is on the left, first house in Barry’s Reef, number 1219 on white

post beside the driveway. From Trentham, turn down Cosmo Road, signposted Blackwood, Greendale (the rebuilt

Cosmopolitan Hotel is on the corner). It is 12kms from Trentham to our cottage, located on the right. You may very

well pass it but there is a gravel road just past it on the right and you can turn round there or continue into

Blackwood for 1.5kms and turn round in town somewhere and retrace your route.

Ride on Saturday leaves at 9.30am, approx 170-190kms, route not finalised as yet! Unless a volunteer offers to drive

a backup vehicle there will be no support for breakdowns/ pickup, so pack your tools &/or walking boots if you ride

something a little unreliable.

A short ride (lasting about 2hrs) is organised for Sunday morning, starting 9.30am prior to the usual BYO BBQ

lunch and meeting from 12noon.

For more details contact Robyn and Greg Doubleday, 5447 8156 (home), or Robyn’s mobile 0439 478 182 (generally

no mobile service at cottage though!)

A TRIP DOWN SOUTH

You may remember our esteemed editor mentioning a motorcycle display down to the south coast in our last mag, at

a place called George Taylor Stores at Grassmere Junction about 10ks. north of Warrnambool. Well I chased up that

lead and can concur that it is rare and well worth the visit even if I cannot recall anywhere near the number of marks

that Arthur did. It did however, get me thinking as to the origin of these rare and sought-after machines and I kept

thinking of the legendary Barry Bligh of Overlander Exhausts fame who actually resides just a few minutes from the

Junction.

The reason I thought of this was simply because I had the honour of visiting this Aladin’s Cave of motorcycles first

back in 1984 on my way to Perth. Since then rumour had it from several enthusiasts that it had become a

“concentration camp for motorcycles”, that is a place where they slowly die without any hope of ever seeing tar under

their tyres.

So going one better than our editor, I was able to track him down and got an uninterrupted tour of what remains of

King Solomon’s mines, with camera in hand.

This is some of what I saw.

Some of the countries represented include, France, Germany East and West, Austria, Italy, Spain, Czechoslovakia,

Russia, and Japan to name some.

After this short period I had to leave as I was becoming quite depressed!! Perhaps knowing these bikes would never

see the light of day. Dave Barcham

UPDATE : HALLS GAP RALLY 20-22 March 2015

Several recent trips to Halls Gap have allowed me to check out some of the potential roads for the rally next March.

The first day’s run or Saturday’s run will be down to the southern end of the Grampians, through some small towns

and home via the scenic route, a distance of about 185kms. The dinner for that night might be at the infamous

Barneys pub just 11kms away. Still to finalise that one.

Day 2 or Sunday will see us up the mountain to Boorooka Lookout then on over the top through recently scalded

bush-fire territory for coffee/snacks at the local Wander Inn. From there we can head onto the vehicle museum at

Brimpean or just stop for look-sees on the way. Fuel stops have been factored-in, some of the local proprietors have

been very friendly and accommodating in this regard. There will be lots of windy roads and scenes of mountains and

valleys to squeeze the breath out of you so be prepared for camera stops and “ooh-ahh” moments.

PS… remember to ring up and book your spot or else you’ll be camping with the roos.

Warnings.. little furry animals at most times, specially at night so ride with extreme care or else walk when the sun

goes down.

Also, police and Highway Patrol (no sense of humour) at all times

Reminder…Halls Gap is expensive so bring ALL YOUR SUPPLIES either from home or Stawell (22kms).

See you at THE GAP!

Hi Arthur,

This article appeared in the latest “Bike Torque” magazine. This club is based in the ACT and I thought it might be of

interest to the members as a low cost product.
