Materials and preparation: Laminate and cut out three sets of the article and picture cards. Place one set in one baggie (for single student use) and placethe remaining 2 sets in one baggie (for 2 player use). Optional: Laminate ‘Answer Check’ pages for student use.

Center Use: Center may be used as a single student or as a game played by two students.

1 Student: Using 1 set of cards, the student is to lay all cards face side up and match the correct article with each picture.

2 Students: Using the cards of the combined 2 sets, stu-dents are to mix up and spread out the cards face down on the table. Players take turns turning up 2 cards.

If a player turns over 1 article card and 1 picture card that go together (“a” “watermelon”), the player may collect and keep the cards. If the 2 cards do not go together, the cards should remain face up on the table.

If any card are turned up later that go with those already face up, the first player to say the correct article and noun together (“an apple” or “a pear”) can collect the 2 cards.

The object of the game is to match all article and noun cards together correctly. The player with the most cards at the end is the winner.
